I call this image “THE HOOD”

This is a “just for fun” composite image. The building is on Savannah’s Waterfront. It houses a hotel and shops …. the entrance is on the other side of the building facing East Bay Street in the heart of Old Savannah.

The images in the windows, on the balconies, and the building were placed there by the artist to create the feel of an old “Hood” (neighborhood).

The now abandoned Van Dyke-Harper Commercial District. Abandoned since the early 2010s, this neighbourhood was once one of Detroit’s East Side bustling areas. Former landmarks have been (literally) laid waste over the years. Landmarks such as Kettering High School, The Eastown Theatre, Club UBQ, United Shirt, as well as a few restaurants that we’d go to for breakfast before class, Commonwealth Bank, as well as several grocery stores and confectioneries, a skating rink as well. The posts depicted date back to the early-to-mid 1950s (they stopped working in the early 1990s), these were the original parking lots for consumers at the time (prior to White Flight). Can anyone notice where the parking meters used to be? They’re evidently no more, but growing up in the 1980s (and early 90s), these were quite the money-grabbers, and if you didn’t get to the meter straight away before the time expired, you had a ticket on your windshield, and God forbid you forget to pay it (which would result in your car being “booted”). But seeing this brings back both memories and heartbreak. Whether or not we’ll see these posts restored or remade, I have no idea, but I can only image the stories they could tell (if that’s even remotely possible).

Good tourists keeping to the right coming up the Metro escalator at the Dupont Circle station.

16 F when I awoke this morning. Not really in to winter....but it was a beautiful...very cold morning.

I am literally walking out the door to go see Iron Man 2. Matinee is only $5.0 and free parking. :-)

Out for a walk in the hood yesterday, this fellow blowing out his driveway presented quite the perspective with the accumulated snowfall that's piling up. One could be forgiven for thinking there's a small hill under that mound of snow next to him but I can assure you the ground is level with him. It's likely to get higher too as we're under a winter storm warning for tonight, which can apparently produce zero visibility and up to 30-40 cm more snow. There's another system coming on Sunday too! I better gas up my own snowblower! I love Canada - but I hope my roof doesn't collapse under all that weight! 😉

Our power was out, no water, no lights, take a walk. Kona and I went for a walk....sun through the trees was amazing.

The treatment of the "W" in "Owl" is very typical of Chicano graffiti. This piece was in the Temple Street area just west of downtown L. A.

This piece, with its strange backward "N" in place of the "H" in "Chicano", would be unremarkable were it not for the Star of David at the left. Notice that it has the same rays emanating from it as the Pachuco style cross at the right. Gang members, being neither particularly religious or political, are nevertheless quick to note symbols (especially controversial ones) and incorporate them into graffiti.

Since taking up full-frame photography, I have found the Canon 35mm F2.0 IS USM to be a great all purpose lens. View other shots taken with this lens here.

I have a preference for shooting with a "normal" lens, but have been trying out this 28mm. It offers a wider view that allows me to include more context into the frame. So far, I am enjoying this challenge. View other shots taken with this lens here.

Another interior scene! I think this turned out pretty well...

Happy Easter, everyone!

This is definitely my favorite vignette so far. Check out this awesome action sequence in the show here. The specific part I recreated starts at 2:50.

I think this one turned out quite nicely! I feel I'm definitely getting better at interior scenes...and I'm trying to work on more great action poses. The smashed glass coffee table is my favorite part. Let me know your thoughts below! Check out the awesome fight sequence!

Really enjoy the 40mm perspective and bought the Canon Pancake 40F2.8 lens. Enjoying the AF functionality and focusing is fast enough for my style of photography. View other shots taken with this lens here. A small but growing collection.

Another 40mm favorite is the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm F1.4 MC lens. It renders images in a way that is reminiscent of film. View other shots taken with this lens here.

Have used a variety of 40mm lenses, view shots taken here.

So I'm honestly surprised no one uses the Lego batman red hood torso for him. I think it suits him very well. Anyway, he's one of the major crime lords for my rogueverse Spider-Man story.
