Bar-tailed Godwit, male in breeeding plumage - the tan feathers on his breast.
Bar-tailed Godwit flies from Alaska to Australia for the summer months here - a non-stop flight of over 10,000kms (6200miles) across the Pacific, the longest known non-stop flight of any bird!
Here is an article showing where a Bar-tailed Godwit sets non-stop of 13,560kms or 8,400mils from Alaska to Tasmania!!! An amazing feat of endurance.

Arctic and Alaska has been in the news (unfortunately not in forefront) lately, as several countries sadly are giving access to oil companies for expanding drill projects, putting the beautiful beings at risk. Where does the greed end? or does it.

As get away destinations go, Hervey Bay is globally unique for Humpback Whales. Hervey Bay's waters are protected by World Heritage Listed Fraser Island which makes "Platypus Bay" a great place for Humpbacks to stay and play. Every winter they migrate to Hervey Bay to give birth, raise their young and to breed, before returning to the waters of Antarctica.
Here you can get up close and personal with Humpback Whales aboard cruise vessels. For me it was an amazing experience to see a 40 tonne wild animal breaks the surface to put on a show right beside our boat. This topped off a display of breaches, spy hops and fin slapping. A truly wonderful experience.

A funny thing happened to me today in that I was doing a search for the best website links for Bill Callahan, a musician I really love and have loved for about 20 years first when he was with Smog and then solo and I found that quite a few publications are using photos I took of him without asking me or crediting me. Isn't that just wonderful?
Not so much...
Here's the biggest publication, The Guardian, using my photo without credit or asking:
www.theguardian.com/music/2011/mar/31/bill-callahan-apoca...
And here's where that same photo from 2008 appeared on Flickr:
www.flickr.com/photos/kirstiecat/2714024070/in/photolist-...
I mean, I guess that counts as a donation to their website? I do love their reporting and they are one of the only publications left out there reporting the truth and who got me through the dark period of Trump. We need publications like this! But ... it just feels wrong. They didn't even ask or credit me. I realize this is a from a long time ago and likely not the artist's fault but just like any musician wouldn't want someone to take one of their songs without even the basic acknowledgement, photographers should rightfully feel the same way. Certainly a journalist wouldn't want their work plagiarized, either. We're in a time of AI taking over fields of art and I have to wonder if it's because we never actually valued the human identity attached to the art work anyway.
In any case, I don't want all that to take away from a birthday photo for a musician I do dearly love and here's a link to Callahan's music:

and at the COP25 Climate Change Conference in Madrid there are only discussions about money and imaginary aims for 2050 instead of effective measures that must be taken immediately, my hope for this planet is fading as fast as these fascinating trees.
Since 2005, eight of the 13 oldest trees and five of the six largest have either suffered catastrophic partial collapses or completely fallen down and died!
Fortunately I had the chance to visit a few of them 'just in time' like the Chapman's Baobab, a landmark for the early explorers of the region of Ntwetwe Pan, Botswana, Africa.

This sunken pathway in Dorset, England, is called "Hell Lane"
The earth is red as is the strata which is a soft red sandstone.
Hence the name "Hell" It started life as a normal path at ground level but over time, with people using it constantly on foot and with horse and carts and driving their livestock to and fro, it has gradually worn down and is now 20 to 30 feet deep. Its possible that it has been used since the stone age.
Its a very spooky atmospheric place and even scarier because of the carvings of grotesque human faces that travellers have cut into the soft sandstone over centuries, as they seem to peer at you watching your every move when you pass by.
It was late evening when I got there and the light was bad for photography but I managed a few shots. Its a fascinating and well worth a visit but dont go alone or it could be your face thats carved into the rock or worse!
Heres a few interesting links;

P@t.
Just something else that I noticed in there, was the existence of a small grotto dug into the bank with some wild flowers in a jar and a statue of Mary.
Im not religious but I thought it was lovely. Maybe someone goes there to pray and meditate and Im sure there is a spiritual link to the past through the forgotten people who have walked along it and unbeknown to themselves, helped to create such an amazing, truly magical and unique place!

I have disabled commenting on my last photo due to the level of abuse that has happened to me here recently. It appears to be a current trend on Flickr and has happened to quite a few of my friends who have also disabled comments.
Its also happened to me in messages. I cant disable that!
Its pointless reporting it as Flickr are not interested in doing anything about it.It appears that the more active you are and the more stuff you write with your images, the more you are targeted.
Its really not worth being here anymore.
