"Conservation and rural-life policies are really two sides of the same policy; and down at the bottom this policy rests upon the fundamental law that neither man nor nation can prosper unless, in dealing with the present, thought is steadily given for the future."

-Theodore Roosevelt

"Give me back my broken night...my mirrored room, my secret life. It's lonely here, there's no one left to torture. Give me absolute control...over every living soul...and lie beside me baby...that's an order."

(Leonard Cohen "The Future")

Leonard Cohen turned 72 on September 21st. I missed it by that much...but hopefully this image, taken at the firefighter's burn last night will evoke a sense of that haunting song. "The Future" is set in a time right out of Cohen's mind...in a place that hasn't happened. The people are bleak and gray and hopeless. A relentless beat drives words laced with heartbreaking images and mind-numbingly horrific scenes.

I started listening to Cohen in college because I thought his stuff suited my carefully cultivated "The World Is Shit" personae. (And no...that attitude does NOT get you girls.) But the guy has a way of making himself heard to anyone willing to listen.

When I started LISTENING to Cohen and hearing 140 proof poetry put to music, hearing new ideas marching to a completely unique drumbeat, the pace of my own heartbeat was changed.

fog

Some noise problems. But this was shot at iso 100. The fog makes it look like it was shot at 1200:p

Pretty much straight out of the camera. Just some smudge removing as it was pouring down and my lens had a lot of rain drops on it..

Edit: 600 views and 200 faves. Thats numbers I never have seen before on any of my shots! Cheers!

I did one similar to this last year and have been wanting to do another and perhaps improve on it. It symbolizes human as caretaker to our planet . So take care, it's all we got.

The glass ball is like a converging lens giving a lovely distortion with all lines pointing to the center. Like being in the middle of a snow globe or rather sun globe. The image is flipped as in my previous post so the scene in the ball is right side up.

1011 years in the future...

The world we know today has been annihilated, forcing humanity to terraform the moon or become extinct...

A pair of explorers have returned to Earth to investigate the ruins of an ancient library...

Bangkok, known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon or Krung Thep for short, is the capital, largest urban area and primate city of Thailand. It was a small trading post at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River during the Ayutthaya Kingdom and came to the forefront of Thailand when it was given the status as the capital city in 1768 after the burning of Ayuthaya. Bangkok is the world's 22nd largest city by population with approximately registered 8,160,522 residents (July 2007), but due to large unregistered influxes of migrants from the North East of Thailand and of many nations across Asia, the population of greater Bangkok is estimated at nearly 15 million people.

Returning to the capital Bangkok. From our lonely beach on Koh Kood to a Metropole with more than 15 million people. Such a big contrast. Photo taken from a bus window at 1/1300s and ISO 400. It's the so-called Mega Bridge which is part of 13 km long Industrial Ring Road located in Bangkok ´s main industrial area

Lyric mood this evening:

And i know full well you won't be there.

You won't be in the street, in the hum that buzzes

from the arc lamps at night, nor in the gesture

of selecting from menu, nor in the smile

that lightens people packed into teh subway,

nor in the borrowed books, nor in see-you-tomorrow.

...

and i know full well you won't be there,

nor here inside, in the prison where I still hold you,

nor outside, in this river of streets and bridges.

You won't be there at all, you won't even be a memory,

and when I think of you I'll be thinking a thought

that's obscurely trying to recall you.
