Incontournable pour les fans d'Harry Potter : c'est, en effet, dans ce café que Jane K Rowling à écrit les premières aventures de la saga. Ce café est également connu pour son impressionnante collection de figurines d’éléphants et on peut y déguster d'excellentes (mais fort caloriques !) pâtisseries.
Advertised as the "Birthplace of Harry Potter", JK Rowling has busted this and other myths about the roles of shops, cafes and pubs in the creation of her mythical world of fantastic beasts and cunning sorcery.
In reply to a fan's query about the birthplace of Harry Potter, Rowling explained that she conceived the idea for the novels in 1990 on a delayed train from Manchester to London. However, the place where she first put pen to paper was in a flat in Clapham Junction, London. Rowling did concede that later books were written in The Elephant House café.
JK Rowling said her "favourite bit of nonsense" was a parking meter in Edinburgh that she is said to have used while writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. She explained: "I can't drive!"

Opened in 1995, The Elephant House has established itself as one of the best tea and coffee houses in Edinburgh. Made famous as the place of inspiration to writers such as J.K. Rowling, who sat writing much of her early novels in the back room overlooking Edinburgh Castle.
Ian Rankin, author of the bestselling Rebus novels, and Alexander McCall-Smith, author of The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency and other series of novels, have also frequented The Elephant House, as well as many others throughout the years.
