Roaches Gate towards The Cloud. The Cloud or Bosley Cloud is a hill on the border between Cheshire and Staffordshire, situated a few miles west of the Peak District National Park boundary.
Info from Wikipedia.
At 343 metres (1,125 ft) in height, it is one of the highest hills in the area. Its heather-covered summit plateau is crowned by a trig point from which extensive views over the towns of Congleton, Biddulph, Macclesfield, Holmes Chapel, and the Greater Manchester area can be enjoyed. The Cloud sits at the northern apex of a triangle formed by the broken ridge which runs along the border between Cheshire and Staffordshire and the hills stretching south through Biddulph Moor into Staffordshire. To its north, the River Dane wraps around its lower slopes whilst the A523 road runs to its east through the village of Bosley in Southeast Cheshire.
BTW....if you zoom in and look to the far left of the image you will see Mow Cop Castle, just visible on the horizon....it's a mere blob but it is there! :)
Is there anything more therapeutic than a morning standing atop a hill, overlooking an inversion? Not really sure about this image, but being out cheered me up no end so it's getting posted!
Even managed to include my favourite concrete tower. But sadly no Shutlingsloe :-(
Where better to do pigeon pose? Yoga moves on The Hanging Stone as the sun begins it's rapid descent over The Cloud in the distance.
April, the new March! Whilst some of you lot were enjoying a spectacular sunrise, I was lost somewhere in the mist 😡 Yet more snowy trees I'm afraid. Happy TmT everyone!
I'm sick of seeing how amazing the dawn was while I was languishing in a hot bath reading Mumsnet on my phone. So today I made a special effort cutting my preening to a minimum, and tearing myself away from the "How to not take ghosting personally -feeling low and in a funk" thread. But I was still late, and on the wrong side of the hills as dawn approached. Kicking myself, I got going on very icy roads and got as far as the North Rode/Bosley viaduct. I had tried the shot earlier in the week and got stuck in slushy snow in a steep side road for my troubles. This time however....just look at the sky....it was amazing (you think it's fake don't you???filters???) , but I decided I should push on and find something more interesting for a foreground. I turned round and put my camera back in its bag in the boot of the car, opened the driver's door to get in, and looked back. No sky. Nothing at all. Not even a hint of pink. But what I got, it really was all natural. One of those days when you never know what nice surprise you will find around the next corner!
Yes I was, sorry! Side-tracked by the most sublime calm pastel dawn. I got to my meeting eventually 😳
Shutlingsloe in the distance, along with Cats Tor, Shining Tor and my FCT (favourite concrete tower). Sorry! Same view from many different angles right now, like most of us. I do feel privileged to have this so close.
i keep comming back to this panorama...the view acroos from the Roaches to the Cloud and then on out across the Cheshire Plain....
As the veiwing platform is closed during level 4 lockdown here's one from the archives from 2016. Napier "the cloud" viewing platform sculpture. Hawke's Bay, New Zealand
That's me and my little shadow on the rock on the right looking out to the north from The Cloud. The Cloud or Bosley Cloud is a prominent hill on the border between Cheshire and Staffordshire a couple of miles west of the Peak District National Park boundary. At 343 metres (1,125 ft) in height, it is one of the highest hills in the area. Its heather-covered summit plateau is crowned by a trig point from which there are extensive views over Congleton, Biddulph, Macclesfield, Holmes Chapel and the Greater Manchester area.
There was some lovely evening light last night bringing out the spring greenness in the fields and trees below. And I wondered was that the tops of the mountains of Snowdonia I was seeing to the west? I heard visibility is so much better with the dramatic fall in pollution due Coronavirus lockdown, but could I really see them roughly 80 miles away?
Many of our guests said they wanted to go for a walk today. But as the snow showers came in over Congleton that number thinned. Of course Darcy still wanted a walk but in the end it was just my godson and I that ventured out and by the time we got to the top of the Cloud it was a blizzard. Like all the showers today, with that brisk wind it passed over very quickly. But boy, it was cold in that wind. By the way, the hill we are stood on is called The Cloud.
After much standing around wondering which way to point my camera my determination was finally rewarded when the sun rose above the hills to my right and woke the morning.

Beautiful orangy spring evening light up on The Cloud. Darcy's a little rock hopper always wanting to be on the top, looking down. Such a playful, spirited little girl.
The last full moon of 2021 setting over Cheshire with a stunning inversion.
A sight to behold, just stunning

Finally some good weather to get out in! A first trip out this year with camera to the Cloud to see the fog over Cheshire.
Views from the cloud earlier in the year. Croker Hill in the background. Hopefully won't be so grey this coming week.
Vendredi 26 Février 2021 – Il n’y a pas le feu et pas de quoi se jeter par la fenêtre, juste beaucoup de nuages.
An interesting building which hosts special events. The name relates to the Maori name for New Zealand, Aotearoa, which translates to ‘Land of the long White Cloud’. Ironically, the photo was taken on a cloudy Auckland morning!
Green and beautiful. I took Darcy up to The Roaches for a late evening walk. We were on the way down when the light briefly lit up the countryside before us. This is looking west towards the hill called The Cloud which sits on the edge of the Cheshire Plain stretching across to North Wales
Not my greatest image if im honest but thought id share.
Having to use a fast shutter to freeze the hail, kind of renders the image useless when the backlighting is so bright. Ive had to push this image 2 full stops out of the dark to reveal the foreground, which I'm not to happy about as it them becomes somewhat noisy.
Cracking few hours up on the end of The Roaches watching weather front after weather front roll over Bosley Cloud and the fields in front of me.
