When I was a child my Grandfather Momo (yes that was his nickname) would play the song "By the light of the silvery moon" on his record player and would sing along to me. I remember it well even after all these years. I'm not sure who the recording was performed by that he used to play because it is a song that has been done by many over the years including Doris Day. The version my Grandfather used to play was a male singer. Just about anytime I see a large moon or spend any time looking at the moon as I was doing while capturing this image, I hear my Grandfather singing inside my head. Memory is an amazing thing. Someday I hope to be able to sing this song to my child. Here's to 2012 and to the many memories ahead for all of us in 2013.
"By The Light of the Silvery Moon" is a popular song. The music was written by Gus Edwards, and the lyrics by Edward Madden. The song was published in 1909 and first performed on stage by Lillian Lorraine. Wikipedia

Bluey, and her friend Chinniah took me back to this location for a redo of our original shoot here the day I met Blue. :) Chinniah's wife dropped us off so we could come down here before sunset and get eaten alive by mosquitoes for an hour while we waited. If I lived in SF I would spend a ton of time in this location. While we were waiting for the light, I saw a few locations down by the water that would be a ton of fun to scramble to and probably have some great views of the bridge and the city. I love bridges and I wish we had beautiful ones like this here. Thanks Chinniah & Blue!
We were forced to cancel our Central Oregon workshop but our final 3 (Seattle, Southern Oregon Coast, and Fall Color Post Processing) are filling up fast so.....

This is the view from the wedding reception last weekend. I didn't have my tripod and only a few minutes to find a flat area to perch my camera on.
Drum roll please ... another bridge shot!

An oppurtunity to head over to Treasure Island around sunset was too good to miss. It's probably one of the best places to get a shot of the San Francisco skyline, along with the Bay Bridge. The fog was rolling in from the right in this shot, but the colours were still doing their best to shine through. This is the only 'golden hour' shot I managed from the city due to the fog, but it's definitely a favourite.

not really. container ships, waiting to dock. there were about six of them, floating like toys. i wished i had my telephoto onboard. and that i hadn't been driving.
still playing the "slow shutter cam app". it's kinda fun! will get around to processing my regular photos one of these days.
so i guess i don't make it over to the east bay that often or even hang out by the bay bridge, cuz for all the photos i have of my fav bridge, i realized i really don't have any of this one. will have to change that :)
anywho.. i really like the lines in this one.

Last night marked the launch of the Bay Lights (thebaylights.org). While many had already seen the lights being tested over the past few months, it was nice to see them switched on officially. I was lucky enough to hang out at +Mozilla San Francisco to get this shot from their roofdeck. Shame it was raining so much - no matter what I did, I couldn't save the front element of my wide angle lens from getting rain on it.
To appreciate the detail in this image please view the original size. I love this bridge.

The Bay Bridge as seen from the Embarcadero (and Folsom). I haven't seen the LEDs before on Bay Bridge and they do look cool. I am very pleased with this shot although I didn't like the plain almost a bit boring sky which pretty much blends into the water below. A bit of clouds and sun light (golden hour) would have made this much more interesting, thought of heading back the next morning but that never happened :) Hope you liked it, thanks for viewing!

Here is a panorama stitched out of three single images that I took on the ferry drive from Oakland to San Francisco. I took those images free handed. For that I think the outcome is not to bad though :-)
I had a rare (these days) job for a group photograph at the Embarcadero, so I arrived early (way too early as it turned out since the group didn't show up until fifteen minutes or more after the appointed time) and set up the tripod and camera. At the time, the doors to the station house were open and the fire truck was sitting there, gleaming in the bright sunlight. But I couldn't leave the camera and gear sitting unguarded to get the photo I would have preferred to have taken.
This was taken during my trip to California and Nevada. I was unable to take a tripod with me and so this was the result of balancing 3 Starbucks cups on top on each other and my camera on top of that! It was a little wobbly to say the least but I had to get a night shot of the Bay Bridge!

This is my second posting of a shot of the western span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. This was taken the same outting as the first version of this, this one on film and the other one was digital. After reading where someone had extolled the virtues of Kodak Portra for night shooting, I thought that I'd give it a try even though I alway prefer the results that I get with slide film at night. After some fair amount of tweaking in Photoshop, this is the end result. I don't think that it is as good as the first version and I don't think that it is nearly as good as what I would get shooting chrome. Also, while I love my Yashica Mat-124G, I do miss having interchangeable lenses as I had on my Mamiya C220 and C330S that were stolen. I guess that the only thing left for me to do is to take my large format Toyo 45CF out and shoot some slide film of the bridge with a wide angle lens so that I can get the composition that I want.
Update: I now have a Mamiya C220f and multiple lenses for it.
Camera: Yashica Mat-124G
Lens: Yashinon 80mm f/3.5
Exposure: Not Noted - I bracketed like crazy and this was the best looking exposure.
Tripod: Benro A-169 w/B-0 Ball Head
Film: Kodak Portra 160VC
Scanner: Epson V750-M Pro

The San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge (known locally as the Bay Bridge) is a complex of bridges spanning San Francisco Bay in California. As part of Interstate 80 and the direct road between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries about 260,000 vehicles a day on its two decks. It has one of the longest spans in the United States.
The bridge has two sections of roughly equal length; the older western section, pictured here, officially known as the Willie L. Brown Jr. Bridge (after former San Francisco Mayor and California State Assembly Speaker Willie L. Brown Jr.), connects downtown San Francisco to Yerba Buena Island; and the newer unnamed eastern section connects the island to Oakland. The western section is a double suspension bridge with two decks, westbound traffic being carried on the upper deck while eastbound is carried on the lower one.
