In the morning the yellow sun was lighting up, here and there, the sleepy windows. I like to follow up and down the streets and think about the people who lived here long time ago. I enjoyed walking until my feet led me suddenly come to a dark corner. I got lost…. Where is my map? - Where are the sleepy windows?

Situated in North Melbourne, this sign is quite old; say early 1900s, based on the font style and the fact that the Herald and Sun were completely different newspapers. They are now merged known as Herald Sun.

Hugo Wertheim was a German migrant to Australia in the late 19th century, an importer of sewing machines and other mechanical devices, and the first maker of pianos in Victoria in the early 20th. Unfortunately, the words under the Wertheim name are too faded to make out.

It's good to see that Charlotte wrote up a good article about our group. And on page 7 as well which I am impressed with as I was expecting a tiny article hidden away in some obscure corner of the paper. Congrats to all involved with MCDP.

Given my rather shoddy eyesight, it wasn't until I got home that I realised Nonna was perfectly placed in the Angel Wings. It made my day.

This was a nice article about Kaz's Laneway in The Age recently. See link: www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/artist-finds-a-creati...

Last weekend I received this lovely bicycle as an early Mother's Day gift. It's been years since I've ridden a bike and since I'm a little behind on the SP Project, I decided to go up the street and zip about on it.*

True or false:

It's like riding a bicycle. You never forget. Sort of true. Balancing and pedaling came back immediately, but the hopping on and off and braking will take more time to master to ensure I don't endanger anyone or look like a complete fool.

According to a review, you can wear a dress when riding this bike. True, especially with the low step-thru frame. However a black skirt requires some 'hitching up' but is still quite comfortable and you retain your modesty at all times! :D

Melburnians only wear black in winter. Apparently this is still true. It's a long held view but in this case, I wore black to contrast with the surroundings.

It's ridiculously complicated to take a SP like this. True! There were 3 shots where I was actually in frame. They're all out of focus but at least you're unable to see the look of terror on my face! :D

I took this shot alongside a private residence at the end of my street. As I live in an older suburb of Melbourne, it's reasonably common to see old corner shops like this, usually attached to a smaller house, that have been renovated to become one single home. Notice the different brickwork where a doorway must have once stood.

The old bluestone edging along the road is a feature that has been retained by the local council. Many of the old laneways are still paved with their original cobbled bluestone. With residential development going crazy, it's nice to see these pieces of history retained.

* Safety first. I have a helmet but it wasn't featured here as I wasn't riding on the road and also, it's not very stylish.

Until 1922 the site was known as "the Sow and Piglets"

Muttonbird Island, near Loch Ard Gorge, was "the Sow", and the smaller rock stacks were "the Piglets"

Serpentine, Victoria (ABCTV Weather)

"The importance of wool in the early days of the (Serpentine) district is apparent in the form of the historic woolshed at 'East Loddon' Station. Thought to be the largest ever built in Australia, this 28-stand structure is 56 metres long and 22 metres wide. The building was commissioned by noted inventor and pastoralist John Ettershank, it was built of brick in 1871 and can be found in Longs Rd, although it is currently private property."

Artwork by Guido van Helten, Melbourne Polytechnic, Windsor.

To create this striking masterpiece, Artist Guido van Helten began with taking photos and working with the profoundly deaf contemporary dancer Anna Seymour. Over the course of five days, Guido transferred the image to the seven-storey wall creating a photo realist portrait of the dancer. With her hair falling down, but eyes raised to the sky full of possibilities, the humanism of the image interacts with the architecture of the building. Guido’s exceptional work can be seen around the world, in cities such as Florida in the United States, Avdiivka in Ukraine, Helsinki in Finland and beyond.

You can read more here: Deaf dancer graces new seven-storey mural in Windsor.

This is Melbourne.

And the bridge on the right is The Sandridge Bridge. It was constructed in 1886 to replace the previous one constructed in 1853. The bridge took rail on what was Australia's first passenger rail line. It is now a pedestrian bridge with a (sometimes it works) moving sculptural piece on it celebrating Australia's immigrant history.

You can see Flinders Street Station just beyond which are the commercial towers 120 Collins Street (left), 101 Collins Street (right) and the Soffitel behind 101.

And apart from enjoying the pun in the title - this is a departure from my usual fare (oops, another pun).

There are also some other indistinguishable sings running down each the side of the front door and another large advertising panel which is impossible to decipher.

The Age is a daily newspaper in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, that has been published since 1854.

Tarax is an Australian brand of soft drink, available in several flavours, and sold in cans and bottles.

Introduced in the early to mid 20th century ; Tarax was at its peak in the 1960s and was one of the top-selling soft drink brands in Victoria.

The name Tarax, itself was the brand-name of an independent soft drink manufacturer and bottler, from the state of Victoria but I recall it in a few other states in the decades since.

Mighty To Save | “During the Last Days, God Principally Uses the Word to Accomplish All”

www.holyspiritspeaks.org/videos/god-principally-uses-the-...

Introduction

Almighty God, Christ of the last days, has expressed a variety of truths. He leads the whole of mankind with the word, which accomplishes the actual significance of the Word appearing in the flesh. From Almighty God's word, people come to know God’s work, God’s disposition, and what God has and is, see God’s supremacy, wisdom, and almightiness, and also understand God’s kind intention for man’s salvation. … In the end, God’s word will show authority and let all people see that “God is as good as His word, and His word shall be accomplished, and that which is accomplished lasts forever,” and that God’s word accomplishes everything!

During the Last Days God Accomplishes All Chiefly Through the Word

I

During the last days, when God becomes flesh.

He principally uses the word to accomplish all,

and make all plain, make all plain. He makes all manifest through the word.

Only in His, in His words can you see what He is;

Only in His words can you see that He is God Himsel.

When God incarnate comes to earth,

He does no other work but the speaking of words.

Thus there is no need for signs; words suffice.

II

Through the word man comes to know the word of God, the disposition of God,

the essence of man, and what man ought to enter into.

Through the word all the work God wishes to do in the Age of Word is accomplished.

Through the word, man is revealed, eliminated, and tried.

Man has seen the word, heard the word, and become aware of the existence of the word.

As a result, man believes in the existence of God;

Man believes the almightiness and wisdom of God,

as well as God’s heart of love for man and His desire to save man.

III

God has come to earth during the last days

to perform the ministry to the word so that man may know Him,

and so that man may see what He is,

and see His, His wisdom and all of His wondrous deeds from His word.

During the Age of Kingdom, God principally uses the word to conquer all people.

In the future, His word will also come upon every sect, group, nation and denomination;

God uses the word to conquer, to make all men see that His word carries authority and might----

and so today, you face only the word of God.

IV

When the authority and power of God’s word is shown,

everything God said from the beginning of time till today

will be accomplished and fulfilled one after the other,

accomplished and fulfilled one after the other,

In this way God will be glorified on earth, that is, God’s word will reign on earth.

All evil persons will be chastised due to God’s word,

and all righteous people will be blessed.

Everything will be established and completed according to God’s word, God’s word.

God does not perform miracles,

and His word will accomplish everything and bring about reality.

Throughout the Age of Kingdom,

God uses the word, uses the word to do His work,

and achieve the results of His work, achieve the results of His work;

He does not work wonders or perform miracles;

He merely does His work through the word.

This metal bust mysteriously appeared last week in the elevated viewing area of All Nations Park. It sits on a makeshift cement plinth and no one is clear as to who it may depict nor who is responsible for placing it there. Needless to say it has created quite a bit of local interest and I am sure the visitor rate of the already very popular park will have spiked. No doubt all will be revealed at some stage.

The view in the picture looks east across the park to the Dandenong Ranges in the background.

From The Age:

Grantville

Small town on the shore of Westernport

Grantville is a small township of some 320 people located 103 km south-south-east of Melbourne 500 m from the eastern shore of Westernport. Grantville was once a supply port for the settlers in the adjacent hill country and a timber town with four sawmills linked by tramway to the jetty from whence the timber was shipped to Melbourne. The town's old mechanics' institute (1888) remains from the 19th century and the cemetery contains some historic tombstones.

The settlement was named after Lieutenant James Grant who, in 1801, made the first-known east-bound passage through Bass Strait followed by the first European survey of the coast between Wilsons Promontory and Westernport.

Sand is now mined in the area for use in ready-made concrete and, in this way, a small part of Grantville has ended up in the concrete bridge that connects San Remo and Phillip Island.

Grantville has a small shopping centre, a foreshore caravan park, bed and breakfasts, a bakery and shops selling antiques and bric-a-brac. At the end of Pier St are a jetty, boat ramp, toilets and a picnic area with barbecue facilities. A variety market is held on the fourth Sunday of each month on the Bass Highway. Bushland around Granville has over 54 species of native orchids which provide a great drawcard for people all over the world who are interested in native plant species. the ecological values of bushland are also highlighted on the 200 acre Freeranger Egg farm - the only accredited free range farm in Bass Coast Shire.

Depending on which estimates are correct, in this photo you are looking at 4% to 10% of all the wild Orange-bellied Parrots left in the world.

Orange-bellied Parrots may be the rarest wild birds in the world. After recent declines there are only 20 to 50 left in the wild and they are the subject of a great deal of dedicated conservation efforts that sadly seem to be up against severe difficulties. Hopefully now that the drought has broken in its winter range we might see more surviving and breeding.

Here's an article (written by two guys from The Age who were departing Melaleuca as we arrived) that puts the situation well... www.theage.com.au/environment/conservation/holding-the-fa...

Above photo shows their natural foodland when in Tasmania - swampy buttongrass country with outcrops of ti-tree and paperbarks (melaleuca and leptospermum) and an enormous variety of other heathy and sedgy plants. The plants are the type that normally don't get a second glance as you try to work your way through what is very hard going, but fascinating if you get down to their level. The area is renowned for its bushwalks more for the views and pristine expanses than for easy walking. Grown men have cried after walking a few days off-track in this country.

At one stage I nearly stood on a snake that swam ever so slowly away from my leg... at the time I thought it was a red-bellied black snake so wasn't too worried about the possibility of aggressive behavior at 30cm, but later discovered that Tassie doesn't have RBBSs and I had been communing with a tiger: much more aggressive (and poisonous).

"You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times."

Matthew 16 : 2

Jesus was talking to the Pharises on this verse above, speaking of their failure to realize and recognize signs the times of the coming of their Messiah. However this also implies of our times when most people fail to recognize the signs of the times, not the end of the world, but time of the second coming of the Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ is not the end of the world. This world wouln't end yet if you read your Bibles. Rather it would be the end of the evil world system as we know it. But it's going to get real bad before it is restored back to glory under Jesus literal reign on earth. The earth and it's billions of people will go through the 7 years tribulations as spoken in the Bible . I am praying I'll never be around when that time of testing comes.

It is a time of testing ,one of a kind so evil that it hasn't happened yet ever before or should it ever happened again.

Can you imagine these things to come ? It's time to wake up friends. Not even your survivor prepping community will physically survive this coming times without the Grace of God to pull it through.

I don't have much time to discuss or write it here but read your Bibles and realize the times.

Don't be afraid .When you have Jesus in your life, there's nothing to be afraid of, in fact you'll get so excited as we are getting so near, I am :)

"And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads...."

~ Luke 21:28

Last 2011 my awakening year back to Christ, I've also heard myself real weird apocalyptic sound at 02:00 while reading my Bible in such late hours. I was in a remote area at that time and I just froze in my bed whne such sound was hovering in the air above our house. never ever I've experience such kind. Then i begun to search. I realized, this was also within the same year many all over the globe heard weird apocalyptic sounds , some accounts even came on TV and were investigated. I do believe, the Lord is giving warnings of the times coming.

The Lord is there if you just seek Him with all your heart.

Jesus is coming soon my friends. Be ready !

The last few days has been a bit of a whirlwind really, with the work that I have been doing along with two friends being picked up by the Melbourne Age.

For the last two years my friend Neda and I have been working to "fill out" the Melbourne Street Art map on Street Art Cities. Another friend Lia has been working with us for 16 months of that.

Street Art Cities is a global street art database, that calls itself the world's largest street art community.

When Neda and I started "mapping" Melbourne, there were 237 artworks on the Melbourne map, putting us in 43rd position of the global cities included. as of now we have over 3,200 active artworks on the map, putting Melbourne in first place on the global list of cities.

Street Art Cities is both a web site and a mobile app and is a wonderful resource for anyone that likes street art. There are currently over 2,300 cities in 117 countries represented on Street Art Cities. For Australia all other capital cities are well represented, as well as many regional towns.

On Monday the Melbourne Age published an article about the Melbourne Street Art scene including a picture of the three of us. They also published a video of the three of us on their Instagram and TikTok. On Monday afternoon I was invited onto Drive with Ali Moore on ABC 774 Radio. There have been multiple “spin-off” stories (Beat magazine, Sitchu magazine) and a constant stream of messages. It’s been wild.

Recording Melbourne street art has been an ongoing project for me since 2012, with Street Art Cities adding to the “effort” and reward. Working with Neda and Lia has been wonderful, we refer to ourselves as the “Dream Team” and it really feels like that. The initial “mapping project” with Neda was the first real task of any significant size that I had taken on with another person since retiring and really was a massive boon for my mental health.

The most important people in the street art “equation” are the artists. Melbourne is only one of the world’s best street art cities because of the huge number of talented artists we have putting their work on the streets. Many of these are home grown, many are from overseas attracted by Melbourne’s great reputation.

Thank you to all the artists - you are the best!

Update 2007.12.04:

From Asia's richest man buys Facebook stake, The Age December 4, 2007 - 10:58AM

Facebook has raised $US60 million ($A68.33 million) from Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing, adding to the list of financial heavyweights backing the online hangout's rapid growth.

You would think it a brazen act to vandalise the back of a police station but this wonderful piece of street art does just that.

In an attempt to prevent continual tagging on the previously blank wall, self-taught street artist Vexta was commissioned by the Port Phillip council to produce a work on this wall which backs onto the local supermarket car park.

Now based in Brooklyn, Australian-born Vexta and her brilliant neon strokes have been seen in Mexico, the US, Italy, Britain and France.

Vexta says her feminine image high up on the police station's back wall is about 'Freedom, nature and the way we relate to it and about creating imagery that is different to the general way that women are presented in advertising and billboards'.

Vexta has no objection to graffiti and said she had no power to prevent her work being tagged. 'My objective is to put my art in the public realm' and added 'Street art or murals aren't forever.'

Source: the age . . . Street artist Vexta adds femininity to prevent tagging at St Kilda police station.

Whats the value in a tree?

I have read so many childrens books now that the all seem to blur into one another, however there are a few that occasionally stick in my head - one such book, which i cannot remember the title, nor find it in the overflowing shelves of books we have, is a story about a tree cutter.

The tree cutter comes to a tree one day only to find its a home for an animal, so he says 'i'll not cut this tree down, i'll find another'. So he goes out again the next day and finds another tree only to see that the tree has apples, so he says the same thing as the day before.

This goes on for several pages until the last page where the tree cutter is tired and he uses the tree for shade/shelter .. the moral of the story is pretty evident by this stage, the tree(s) have so many more uses as a tree than as a log that has been cut down...

Never a truer point in my opinion and very applicable to Tassie at the moment (and probably alot of other places) where with some positive direction we can use trees for many more uses by leaving them there then the single use for the short term gain, tassies tourism is based on its world heritage forests and reputation as a pristine natural environment..

Here is a picture of tree which caused me to think of this childs book, like alot of tree's it is already being used or serving a purpose for many already..like the eagle nest.

"Forests are our friends, they're the lungs of humanity, we shouldn't be cutting down trees, we should be managing them."

The iPhone has arrived ! Customers queue up at the Apple Store on 5th Avenue, Manhattan, New York.

Stop the press.....

At the Apple store on New York's 5th Avenue, some 160 people were in line at 8:30 this morning as television crews filmed the crowd.

"I hardly slept since I came Thursday morning," said Jessica Rodriguez, 24, as she waited.

Charming!
