I haven't been a good Flickr friend for what feels like forever. I hope you can all accept my apologies. The reason for my absence has been on going complications with two different heart conditions that I have. Just after I shot this photo I had a horrible episode which nearly landed me in the hospital fearing a heart attack. Thankfully I feel I am improving more as each day passes but ultimately my long term treatment includes increasing my activity and limiting my time spent sitting. This has really cut in to my computer time! So most of my time at the computer has become very rushed and devoted to attempting to grow my business endeavors rather than the pleasures and hobbies I treasure so. I hope that my dear Flickr friends can find it in their hearts to understand why I have neglected their streams and groups so. My own groups and other web ventures have suffered as well and I am on the fence as to which directions I should try to maintain attention to and which I may have to let go. Send prayers, if you could, that I'll find a happy balance and choose the paths that are best. If you need to contact me I'm now most easily reached through my Facebook fan page. ~xo

Magnolia Cone Close-Up. Found it while walking under a large Magnolia tree. This one fell off the tree prematurely either by weather or blight.

I’ve always struggled with getting a photographic style locked down or as some may say a signature
While on holiday recently I read a quote by a well know sculptor that simple said -
“This is me now and this is my work today”

The wood duck or Carolina duck is a species of perching duck found in North America. It is one of the most colorful North American waterfowl. ~Wikipedia
I normally do not go out of my way to take waterfowl shots, unless the subjects are closer than usual. And it's not every day I come across wood ducks foraging along the lakeside. This species tends to be very skittish and often not close enough to reach even with a 150-500mm lens.
Unfortunately, it was a cloudy day, late pm, and not much light to speak of. I struggled with my variable lens to manage a sharp and decent shot. Mostly, I wanted to keep the iso low and still use the sharpest aperture range. Not an easy task when hand holding a lens and trying to get an eye level shot, without spooking the subject.
Even though the legs are in the frame fixed in the grasses, I would have preferred a little more space in the lower bottom of my frame. However, I still managed to get a shot with the legs in frame within a few minutes. When iso is not to part with taste, I sometimes will opt to play around with textures in post processing. Which is what I did with this Wood duck image here. I applied several textures at different blends and opacity levels. And a few other tricks I do to my wildlife images via PS CS6. Anyway, let me know what you think of it. Thanks!

I wanted to create a fun image that had a story as well as being slightly different! We all know there’s that small comic moment when you see someone out of control like being blown over or as I’ve portrayed here the man hanging on to a rope, funny as long as no one gets hurt.
