I have never seen this quilt in all of my life. My mom has kept it in a cedar chest all these years and unveiled it to me as a present last week. It was made by my great Granny over 100 years ago and is in perfect condition. Being a jacquard and print designer by trade, man I was blown away. It is just so cool because of the history and age but also the craftsmanship of the quilt. Thanks mom!!

A textile swatch for the ladies' drapery department of the department store Mawer and Collingham. Swatches of fabric have been cut with pinking shears and attached to the catalogue. Fabrics shown include cambric, cotton crepe, oxford shirting, flannel and crepe laine.

Company history

In 1900, Mawer & Collingham was incorporated as a private limited company, becoming Mawer & Collingham Ltd. Joseph Mawer Collingham, previously sole proprietor of Mawer & Collingham, became managing director and company secretary, a position he was to hold until his death in 1902. His sons, William, Cyril and Horace, and Mr. S. Graveley, previously a buyer, became directors. By the time of its incorporation, the company's trade had diversified to include wholesale and retail drapers, silk mercers, haberdashers, milliners, dressmakers, tailors, hatters, furriers, lacemen, clothiers, hosiers, glovers and general outfitters, carpet warehousemen, upholsterers and house furnishers and decorators.

dear friends, i'm happy to announce that my fave Ukranian t-shirt brand is now selling a tee with my Little Red Riding Hood design. if you want one, please get it here, sektashop.com/en/fairy-tales/629-oh-ure-killing-me.html

lace made of amazing Mokuba ribbon and industrial O-rings usually used for plumbing

I painted three flowers, using water color techinque while painting with guache. I then uploaded these three motifs into photoshop and created this all over design.

When young, a man may wish to carry his beloved woman... To feel her body, with it's weight.. warmth.. LIFE. To feel the belonging to one another, with it's significance.

Some grow older still may wish to do so...

As the years goes by, and the weight might change, as well as the body, or the emotions... The task might be different... Perhaps more difficult to carry. Perhaps deeper in EMOTIONS.

In this painting, I wish to deal not only with the physical aspect of what is seen here..

But far more behind the thought...

The ability to carry each other, as one is... With it's FULL MEANING.

May you be able to see the light in your life and those that are real in your world... and even more to appreciate it.

With love,

Happy Valentine's day!

great shape to be in: a 'Klein' design fabric in Terlenka

Jersey in Terlenka polyester is colourful, carefree, plain or fancy. Light as thistledown, soft as a kitten, it will keep you summer warm all winter long. In Terlenka, you'll feel great. And look it.

Terlenka is the registered name for A.K.U.'s polyester fibre and is manufactured in the U.K. by British Enkalon Ltd., Enkalon House, Regent Rd., Leicester. Tel: Leicester 27291.

Jersey fabrics personally designed by Bernat Klein are available only in Terlenka.

Klein was born in Senta, in what was then Yugoslavia. In 1940 he attended the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem and then moved on to the University of Leeds, England, where he studied textile technology from 1945. He was employed by various textile companies in England and Scotland until 1952 when he established Colourcraft (Gala) Ltd. This comprised a weaving centre in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, producing rugs and other items which were sold at the company's own shop in Edinburgh. He created innovative textiles, building up trade with producers such as Marks and Spencer.

In 1962, Coco Chanel chose Klein's fabrics for her spring collection, which led to greater exposure and further sales to couture houses in the US and Europe including Dior, Balenciaga, Pierre Cardin and Saint Laurent. The company was renamed Bernat Klein Limited, and a major stake in the business was acquired by a subsidiary of Imperial Tobacco.

Klein resigned from this company in 1966, setting up on his own again. He based himself at his home near Selkirk, where he commissioned a studio building from the architect Peter Womersley, who had designed Klein's house, High Sunderland, in the 1950s. He established a cottage industry of hand-knitters, employing up to 250 people. During the 1970s he began producing his own clothing collections, and later established himself as a design and colour consultant. The Department of the Environment commissioned him in the latter capacity to develop standard ranges of carpets and upholstery fabrics.

Klein drew inspiration from nature for his textiles and paintings. His signature fabrics include colourful exotic tweeds, incorporating mohair and ribbons, as well as velvet and jersey fabrics. He won the Design Council Award in 1968, and was awarded an honorary degree from Heriot-Watt University in 2003.
