The long crinkle silk shibori chiffon wraps itself elegantly around the hips and with a nice bride waist band you have many options of how to fold and tie this lovely wearable art wrap around skirt. Super job felting this big piece of fabric!
This is a detail shot of a large textile on display in the Menswear Department at the Nieman Marcus store in Scottsdale. It is gigantic in size--perhaps 5' wide by 8' high--and this is just one small section. I cannot image the work involved in making this beautiful textile. It appears to be embroidered all over the surface and some of the threads are metallic. I do not know the country of origin or the date it was made. If anyone can help with an ID I would appreciate it. I have not been able to ask anyone at Nieman's.

I did a tile type design with a ball point, scanned it in and played with it in Photoshop. It turned out pretty well, I think.

Inspired by Berlin based label Studio Nono, students were asked to design a collection suitable for Spring/Summer 19 collection. The outcome was 4 hand painted designs and 2 metre screen printed fabric length.
Studio Nono is a fashion and textiles label working to produce unique feminine textiles ad accessories. Inspired by Japanese and Northern European design, they aim to create their own visual language through unique prints on natural materials. Designing for this label I aimed to create a delicate feminine colour palette and aesthetic using stylised fruit, floral and plant imagery. Other techniques explored were embroidery and beading.

I really enjoyed working on this art felt and beading it was great too. (Helmut made lots of fires to keep me warm while working!) I like it very much because the tree spirit is looking at me and reminding me to remember the trees! It was inspired by Friedensreich Hundertwasser's paintings, which I really like and find visually fascinating. I read a couple books about his philosophy of living with trees and having nature integrated into modern living spaces and I have to agree with him.....it is a very important fact of life to live in harmony with the trees on this planet!
So I will dedicate this artwork to my Dad, Jim Herberger, who plants at least 50 trees every year! Thanks Pops!
Last month, Michael and I had the opportunity to visit a fascinating vintage clothing exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Entitled, “Death Becomes Her: A Century of Mourning Attire”, it featured an historical progression of mourning attire spanning the years 1840 to 1916. Worn mainly by new widows, other family members, children, sisters, grandmothers, and even men might also dress in black.
These finely constructed, exquisite and expensive garments reflected the current styles of their era; however, with little or no color. I wandered the beautiful yet, somber vignettes studying the artistry ever mindful that a real person had worn the apparel in mourning for a lost loved one.
