The red lighthouse on the northernmost tip of Texel is the symbol of the island.
It is the only lighthouse in the Netherlands with a view of the sea from three sides. The tower is located directly on the Unesco World Heritage "Wadden Sea" and the North Sea.

Texel is the largest and most populated of the Frisian Islands in the Wadden Sea , and also the westernmost of this archipelago, which extends to Denmark. The next island in the archipelago, to the north of Texel, is Vlieland.
