... a few photos from the Tour de Grandview (a criterium) road race in Grandview Heights. Talk about amazing weather, partially sunny 78 degrees, wonderful day for a race.

I don't really do sports photography so this was a bit of a new thing for me, interesting learning experience. I decided to put things on manual focus, set things up at the right distance from me and when the racers came down out of the hill I just fired away...

My brother and sister in law and I had diinner on January 15, 2016 at the brand new Texas Roadhouse on the south side of Ann Arbor. Good food and a bucket of peanuts in the shell at your table. It was a rainy evening, not very wintry-like, at all.

Long ago, Cowboys and Cowgirls, thirsty for beers, dancin', food, excitement and company passed through this portal. Judging by the patchwork, these doors were no doubt of the swinging-door variety in the days before air-conditioning when a breeze through an open door was as welcome as a cool cloth to the back of the neck. Live bands playing western swing saw perspiring couples gliding across the floor oblivious to the humidity and heat, captured by the music, slight caress of one another and easy glide of the floor- a blissful, sometimes romantic state of body and mind.

In those days, married couples brought their babies to this place. Though lights were dim, it was a bright spot of pleasure and ease in a life filled with daily dawn-to-dusk labor and toil for farmers and ranchers. Families knew one another and men self-policed the room so that wives and children could enjoy their outing. A cook-house was occasionally adjacent to the Roadhouse serving up lunches and dinners for hungry patrons who could afford a meal.

Women gathered and chatted, children scampered about and men gravitated to Pool tables which were often at one end of the long room separated from the dance floor by a bar. Single Sportin' fellas drank beer and flirted with girls looking for their next Beau. Sometimes money changed hands from the outcome of the billiards contest. Children frequently hid under the pool tables to experience the goings-on. I will never tell what I heard or saw...without a little coaxing of free food and beverage. ;-))

Families left early and serious dancin', drinkin', sparkin' and sportin' went on into the wee hours of the morning. The night ordinarily went without incident, but every once in a while something happened which gave the local newspaper something disreputable to report. This ordinarily ended up in no small amount of embarrassment for a local family.

A Texas roadhouse, it was a place where life of the time was talked about and experienced... where simple human joys and disappointments were played-out to their natural end.

Willie as in Willie Nelson. I thought this was a rather unique neon sign.

Donna and I got seated in an out of the way spot on this return to our favorite steak place. It allowed for an interesting view. Afterlight’s tools were all I needed to finish it up.

Today was my cousin's 16th birthday, and only posed real quick for this photo. Liking the neon lights, though.

I stopped early in the morning for a shot of this business. Really liked the way it was lit and the flag on top was an added bonus.
