Metra MPI MP36PH-3S 402 was out and about on a joy ride shortly after delivery. It was passing the Stone Avenue stop on the BNSF Chicago Subdivision in 2003.

BNSF wasn't impressed with these things and Metra eventually reassigned them to other lines.

So this is my first attempt at editing a photo without the built in crap in SL...

Testing Nikon 50mm 1.4 D Lens on a Nikon Z7

These are the big chicks, getting ready to fledge. I've been watching them for a few days, but they've either been flapping on cloudy days or sitting in the nest like bumps on a log on sunny days. I finally got them flapping on a sunny morning even if with the distance away, the partly cloudy sky behind, and the shady nest, the photos aren't the best. This may have been my best chance given that they'll leave soon and cloudy conditions are coming up do to frequent thunderstorms. Great Blue Herons, Siskiyou County, California

I wasn't having luck with this lens through my window.... today since the temperature is almost 80 degrees.... I opened the window.... what a difference!!

Moral of my story.... I need to wash my windows!!!

This Common Grackle is testing my ability to be truly inclusive in the bird kingdom. I worked hard to make our backyard welcoming for the local birds. This spring the Chickadees are back making their nest in the nesting box they used last year. I found the Robin’s nest in my Yew tree and I am hoping the young birds survive this year. The Cardinals are nesting in my neighbours yard but the birds come to our feeder everyday. Last year, we had a Chipping Sparrow’s nest with tiny eggs that hatched. This year, the Grackle has decided to nest in the tall cedar in our backyard. This is not a bird I really want in my yard. They can be noisy and bossy. They look sinister with that glaring eye. Yet, we are learning to accept the couple in our yard. What else can we do? They are letting other birds eat from the feeder. Usually, the Grackles will spill seeds to the ground and then eat from the ground while the other birds take their turn at the feeder. The Grackles haven’t been too noisy this week. I’ve never seen juvenile Grackles, so this could be interesting to see. Sometimes we need to let nature take its course. I don’t find it easy to like these birds but I’ll give them a chance. When the sun shines on their feathers, it reveals their beautiful blues and greens and it softens that dark look they can have. If they can get along in my garden, I guess I can too.

This male American Goldfinch tolerated my watching test the water in the water garden's stream. It seems like it is testing the water's temperature with its toe.

Australian Magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) juvenile

At least one of the Magpie chicks will be leaving the nest soon, it was doing a lot of wing testing today. I also now know that there are 3 chicks, not just the 2 I had previously seen.

Bella, cautiously testing the chair only days after I adopted her. The chair had been empty for a few months, Bella needed a new home & I needed a cat. Now, she “knows” the chair belongs to her, though I’m usually allowed to share it!

Testing out something a little more artistic for a Milky Way shot, choosing selective colors for what I think are the interesting aspects of a given MW shot. For this shot I thought the intense green airglow and new spring vegetation growth combined with the aurora from the Memorial Day weekend storm were "highlights" of the shot. I also decided to selectively color the Rho Ophiuchi complex, North American Nebula, and Sadr region. Thoughts?
