Tendance discrète dans le ciel mauve de ce matin. Bonne journée !
She's very discreet in the mauve sky, early this morning. Nice day to everyone !
This species tends to be the favored bird to be used in advertisements geared toward conserving wetlands and promoting wildlife.
They nest in tree cavities where they are physically adept to perch in trees given the sharp claws they have on their feet. Man-made nesting boxes are readily accepted by these birds as well. This is the only species of duck that raises two broods in one breeding season.
Most often we find this member of the "Dabbling Duck" family feeding on the surface of the water gleaning seeds or tipping up to feed on aquatic plants.
This male is quietly enjoying a short rest between feeding times and has a female nearby.

A rather poignant view of a tree among the moss covered remains of its neighbours. Taken in Barnes's Grove, Buckinghamshire.
I tend to put in many miles a day when out and about. Subsequently I'm often at a beautiful place when the sun is in an undesired position, like here. The Sun is the boss, as we know. But I click away anyway.....
I try my best in pp to bring back the essence and beauty I remember, not overblown with details lost in the shadows. A good challenge. I thought this special moment and scene was worth a share.
Thanks for taking a look! Always appreciated.
The third shot I took of the low winter sun rising!
As November turns into December the early mornings can be masked in mist, bright and clear like this, or most often grey and dull. So I tend to grab the chance of the bright photogenic mornings to shoot as much as I can ... to take me through the dull wet mornings 😊
My apologies - but this one seemed perfect for the Saturday Smile challenge of "sunrise". The previous 2 are in the first comment field

Have a superb weekend, friends
So, normal people tend to bundle up, stay inside, and avoid creepy places in the middle of the night when it's in the twenties.... Not photographers... evidently we flock to creepy locals, ignore freezing temperatures, laugh in the face of pitch black doom.... All in the name of a decent photo. This is a gift shop, open during the summer. I've been itching to take a photo of it for a week or two now. Thankfully I didn't discover the no trespassing sign till the end of the shoot.... I dislike trespassing, or breaking any laws in the name of a photo. This building burned down not long after this photo, and I have never been able to correct the shot... this was originally taken in 2016.
Looks like the bird is trying to contend with a big seed. If I'm not mistaken, they tend to go for smaller seeds due to their small beak and mouth.
I tend to shy away from posting more than one photo of the same bird, at least not so close together. This is one of those exceptions. When I first saw him, my thought was "ho-hum, another Red-tailed," yet, this one quickly won my heart. Even the resident Bald Eagle hasn't made my heart go pitter-pat like this magnificent bird. The heart wants what the heart wants... even the most common of birds can flip that switch.
I do tend to give people a new chance
I'm always hoping for that they can learn from their faults
From time to time in my life I have needed to stop doing this
That is when years and years go by and there is no progress, just continuing to think of what benefits themselves, no matter what, in every way, always

Wow do I have had a wet fuse

But for me

All the way

Looking West Sunrise from a Western view point, most of these tend to be bland, this was full of nice clouds, shot in North Carolina.

The Chiff Chaff is a lovely bird that I come across just about every time I venture out for a walk. How often though do I get a chance to point a camera at one? Not too frequently as they tend to occupy the higher tree tops and take advantage of dense foliage cover. It's distinctive "chiff chaff" call seems to me to be part of every day life, even when I am in the outside warehouse at work I still hear the constant call.
Northamptonshire, where we live, is mainly a rural landlocked county in the south Midlands. The M1 passes through on its western side while the A14 crosses from east to west towards the north. But other than those who live there, relatively few people actually visit. The countryside tends to be gently undulating with numerous beautiful stone-built villages. The landscape flattens out towards the east where it adjoins the Cambridgeshire Fens. But in the north-west and south-west of the county there is pretty countryside with hills reaching over 600 feet above sea level. I have been unable to discover why the Purser's Hills are so called, but these are to be found near the village of Haselbech, a couple of miles south-east of Naseby in the north-west of the county.
Starting a tribute to the ladies with this shot of two elk cows found in Bighorn National Forest, Wyoming.
When it comes to species such as moose, elk and bison, wildlife photographers tend to favor the big bulls with massive horns and antlers. But the females of those species deserve a little photo love too. So here's the first of four shots giving attention to the ladies.
It was interesting to see the different stages of shedding here. The closer cow had shed almost all her winter coat, while the other cow still had most of her winter coat.
It's an Enoplognatha ovata spider, aka a candy-striped spider, that was so tiny that it was hard to see. Indeed, according to Wikipedia, it's body size is less than 1/4 inch long. It has "translucent legs and the globular abdomen is extremely variable in color and pattern." This one didn't have the red "candy stripes" that some have.

I tend to shoot a lot of trees for some reason and thought I'd dice it up a bit with some contemplative sheep. Shot with my Lumix S1, with an adapted Nikon 300mm f4.5 made in 1977.

Here is an adult bald eagle, the female I believe, tending to her hatch in her nest near us. I have probably said this many times. If, as a Boy Scout in the 1960s and having never seen a bald eagle, someone told me that I would have a nesting pair within a few miles of my house as an older man, I would have thought you crazy. Thank-you to all of the conservationists, not the least of which thank-you, John Dingell, one of the architects of the Endangered Species Act.
Cold winter days tend to make the unapproachable more tolerant as they have other things on their mind.
Kestrel’s rarely linger for a photograph, this one was sat on the far side of a tree beside the footpath and was not remotely interested in taking off as he soaked up the sun.
Even when I stopped to take a photo through a gap in the branches he didn’t even bother to look down at me so after getting a snap I left him to whatever he was thinking.

Photographers tend not to photograph what they can’t see, which is the very reason one should try to attempt it. Otherwise we’re going to go on forever just photographing more faces and more rooms and more places. Photography has to transcend description. It has to go beyond description to bring insight into the subject, or reveal the subject, not as it looks, but how does it feel?
