Ten years ago, the 2012 Olympic Games took place in Stratford in the East End of London. This week, to remember that great occasion I'm posting a number of photos taken over the course of the two weeks. Some are improved versions of shots already posted, but the majority are new images I've not previously shared with the public.

This view is of part of the northern end of the Olympic Park, looking south of east across the River Lea at the (permanent) velodrome on the left (known by some as The Pringle for its distinctive shape) and the (temporary) basketball arena on the right, with a couple of art installations on the River Lawns adjacent to the river in the foreground.

The Ross Auxiliary Building that was setup for the Ross Construction Project was finally taken down and moved out. It had a final stop in town at Briarwood Mall - a place to stage its final removal from campus. The Ross Auxiliary Building - or MOTown - as I liked to call it - was my home from 2014 to 2016. Later, it was called the Tappan Street Auxiliary Building. It was used by other groups over the last five years. Taken over a few days in August, 2021.

on the outskirts of Yazd basically in the middel of nowhere. i was almost arrested or shot (or both) for taking this picture as a machine gun toting security guard ran towards me while i was taking this picture and ordered me to erase this picture (which obviously i did not). makes you wonder if this really is a mobile ATM and not some super sekrit nuclear facility...

Do you see that American-style white door that leads into the room of oriented strand board? I've got a few of that style of door in my house.

Ask a grammar expert whether "I've got a few of that style of door" is grammatically correct.

A very impressive 'temporary structure'.

Architects; Carmody Groarke. They seem to be cornering the market for light weight/temporary structures, and what a great job they are doing. On a sunny autumn day, while the 'art lovers' were seeing art and were being seen by all, I was transfixed by the magic of these temporary structures.

Polythene sheets visibly stapled to exposed ply and softwood frame form the external 'glazed' skin. Felt tipped tags identifying structural elements are exposed to all, reminding you of symbols medieval carpenters carved on frame to assist assembly on site. Lewerentz has been paid a compliment by use of exposed light fittings and wiring fixed to the surface of ply panels.

Enclosing mature trees, and trimming flooring panels around tree trunks in courtyards blur the 'ageing' process. Cheap plastic panels forming the roof and vertical polythene sheets let the dappled light play on internal surfaces just like the courtyard. Occasional bucket to collect a few raindrops inside the building can easily be forgiven for a structure with a life of few days/weeks.

This is the temporary structure for the annual festival of Theatre, Music, Dance and Art. Last year some of the exhibits were, let us say, "enigmatic". What will this year bring?
