Das ehemaligen Tempodrom, gegründet von der ehemaligen Krankenschwester Irene Moessinger. Eine Erbschaft ermöglichte Ihr 1081 Ihren Traum von einem eigenen Theater zu verwirklichen.den Traum von einem eigenen Theater zu verwirklichen. Standort war der Potsdamer Platz im alten West-Berlin. Von dort zogen 1985 Zelt vom Potsdamer Platz in die Nachbarschaft der Kongresshalle im Tiergarten. Seit 2001 ist der Veranstaltungsort auf dem Gelände des am Anhalter Bahnhof, jetzt ein Betonpalast in der Form eines Zirkungszeltes.

The former Tempodrom, founded by the former nurse Irene Moessinger. An inheritance enabled her to realise her dream of owning her own theatre in 1081. The location was Potsdamer Platz in old West Berlin. In 1985, the tent moved from Potsdamer Platz to the neighbourhood of the Congress Hall in Tiergarten. Since 2001, the venue has been on the grounds of the am Anhalter Bahnhof, now a concrete palace in the shape of a circus tent.

L'ancien Tempodrom, fondé par l'ancienne infirmière Irene Moessinger. Un héritage lui a permis de réaliser son rêve d'avoir son propre théâtre en 1081. Le lieu était la Potsdamer Platz dans l'ancien Berlin-Ouest. En 1985, le chapiteau a quitté la Potsdamer Platz pour s'installer dans le quartier de la Kongresshalle au Tiergarten. Nun war ich schon zum dritten Mal am Tempodrom. Wieder eine Menge Shots, dieses gefiel mir dann am besten wegen des Baumes, der seine Krone genau so dem Himmel entgegenreckt wie das Gebäude die Seine.
Treffpunkt für unseren Fotospaziergang war der Potsdamer Platz. Von dort ging es zur Philharmonie, dem Shellhaus zum Tempodrom danach Kreuzberg. Zurück zum Regierungsviertel, weiter zur Kongresshalle vorbei am Kanzleramt, entlang der Spree bis zu der unteren Brücke am Paul-Löbe-Haus. Am Hauptbahnhof war unser gemeinsamer Spaziergamg beendet.
Die weißen Kreuze stehen symbolisch für die Toten an der Berliner Grenze.

The meeting point for our photo walk was Potsdamer Platz. From there we went to the Philharmonie, the Shellhaus to the Tempodrom afterwards and to Kreuzberg. Back to the government district, on to the Congress Hall, past the Chancellery, along the Spree to the lower bridge at Paul Löbe House. Our walk ended at the main railway station.
The white crosses symbolise the dead on the Berlin border.

Le point de rencontre de notre promenade photographique était la Potsdamer Platz. De là, nous sommes allés à la Philharmonie, au Shellhaus, puis au Tempodrom et à Kreuzberg. Nous sommes retournés dans le quartier gouvernemental, nous avons continué jusqu'au Palais des Congrès, nous sommes passés devant la Chancellerie, nous avons longé la Spree jusqu'au pont inférieur de la Maison Paul Löbe. Notre promenade s'est terminée à la gare centrale.
Les croix blanches symbolisent les morts de la frontière berlinoise.

Zweieinhalb Wochen ist es her, da stand ich vor'm Tempodrom in Berlin und war mir 100%ig sicher (nein, es waren mehr), dass das ein klassisches Schwarz-Weiß-Ding mit saudunklem Himmel, feinen Wolken und hartem Kontrast zwischen Himmel und Architektur wird. Genauso bin ich das Ganze auch angegangen: ab nach Photoshop, Auswahlen, Masken ... das ganze Zeugs halt. Und nach ca. 90 Minuten Arbeit stelle ich fest: das rockt nicht mehr - zumindest mich nicht - zumindest nicht bei diesem Bild. Dasselbe habe ich auch schon bei meiner Langzeitbelichtung vom Hafen in Konstanz gehabt. Was passiert denn da? Geht da die schmaidt.de-fine-art-long-time-exposure-with-hart-contrasts Epoche vorbei? Man weiß es nicht - ich auf jeden Fall nicht. Ist auch egal. Mir gefällt's. Gibt ja seit einiger Zeit auch andauernd Hundebilder ;-)

Das Tempodrom ist ein Berliner Veranstaltungsort, der 1980 zunächst als alternative Spielstätte auf der Westseite des Potsdamer Platzes, in direkter Nachbarschaft der damaligen Berliner Mauer, von der Erbin und ehemaligen Krankenschwester Irene Moessinger ins Leben gerufen wurde.

I think we've all had this experience during a holiday abroad. We are hundreds, maybe even thousands of miles away from home, and all of a sudden you notice a car with your hometown's license plate or hear someone speak in your hometown's or region's dialect or slang. Maybe you will engage in a small chat with those people you have never met at home because they live in a different part of town, but here, at your holiday destination, they are like neighbours, and a remark like "It's a small world!" won't be surprising. One of those holidays was one from my childhood, we were camping in France, first in Brittany, but the weather was horrid, so we moved on to the Atlantic coast, somewhere near Bordeaux, where we stayed at a beautiful, very well-kept, very clean pine forest campsite nearby a huge, sunny, pleasantly empty beach. And boy, there were so many cars with a capital "B" for Berlin (and "B" for West Berlin only at that time) on the license plates at that campsite :)
Quite obviously one reason I remembered that anecdote in connection with this photo is the tiny-looking Earth globe balloon that you can see on the right behind the Tempodrom's roof. The "World balloon", as it's officially called, is a 150 m/ 492 ft. high viewing platform on a tethered balloon located at Checkpoint Charlie. Have I been up there myself already? To be honest: no. It sure is tempting, especially because on a clear day the view from the platform reaches as far as the outskirts of Berlin, but I'm a little bit afraid of heights, I don't like flying, and the thought of being up there in a flying object only secured by a steel cable, even if it's only for 15 minutes, is quite intimidating. But maybe I'll do it one day :) The imprint on the balloon says "DIE WELT" (The World) which is the name of one of the biggest German national newspapers and the balloon's sponsor.
For more info on the Tempodrom's history, an event location originally founded in a circus tent in West Berlin in 1980, please check the description for the photo in the first comment. There, I'd also remarked that the Tempodrom, depending on the point of view, sometimes looks like a starship, a circus tent (intended), or a crown. This zoomed-in view reminds me of a crown or even a mountaintop. You'll get this particular view, with the World balloon rising next to the "crown", when you approach the Tempodrom from its backside, through a small park located between the German Museum of Technology and the site of Anhalter Bahnhof.
Regarding the image's processing, I can only tell you as much as that I did quite a bit of "sliding", this and that, but with long breaks in between, so I can't remember the single steps except for the last finishing touches which where: 1) "Reflector Efex (Silver)" filter in Color Efex to brighten the foreground, and 2): adjustments with the primary colour sliders in LR.

An "eye to the sky" at an interesting courtyard of an otherwise unobstrusive business building between Potsdamer Platz and Tempodrom. Taken during a photowalk with Flickr friends back in July 2019. Earlier that year, in March, I had already visited this place on another walk with other Flickr friends, where we'd had fun with performing (and capturing) photographers' "neck pain contortion poses" for each other (please see first comment 😉) – which, ironically, resulted in us being expelled from that courtyard, because we were "photographing people". Indeed, we did, but not strangers, only each other. Two girls photographing each other there in fashion model poses with their phones weren't asked to leave. I've already experienced this in a few places that it brings security or other employees into the scene when they see several people with cameras in the same spot. It once even happened at a shopping mall where we had specifically asked the employee at the information desk at the mall's entrance whether it's OK to take photos there, and the answer had been "Yes!" even regarding the – considerate (of course...) – use of tripods. But when we did just that it didn't take long and a security guard showed up and told us that "It's not allowed to take photos!" – when at the same time several people next to us were taking photos with their phones. Contradictions...

Ein "Auge zum Himmel" im interessant gestalteten Hinterhof eines ansonsten eher unauffälligen Geschäftshauses zwischen Potsdamer Platz und Tempodrom, aufgenommen bei einem Fotowalk mit Flickr-Freunden im Juli letzten Jahres. Im März 2019 war ich schon einmal mit anderen Flickr-Freunden dort gewesen, wo wir uns den Spaß gemacht hatten, füreinander in "Fotografen-Nackenstarre-Position" dort auf dem Rondell direkt in der Mitte des Innenhofes zu posieren – was prompt zu unserem Rausschmiss führte, weil wir "andere Leute fotografiert" hätten. Hatten wir, aber doch nur uns selbst und niemanden sonst (siehe Foto im ersten Kommentar 😉). Zwei junge Frauen, die dort füreinander Modell standen und sich mit ihren Handys fotografierten, wurden nicht aufgefordert, den Hof zu verlassen. Ich habe das jetzt schon das eine oder andere Mal erlebt, dass mehrere Leute mit Kameras offenbar gerne den Sicherheitsdienst oder andere Mitarbeiter auf den Plan rufen (und es war bei keiner dieser Gelegenheiten so, dass wir uns irgendwie daneben benommen hätten). Einmal sogar in einem großen Einkaufszentrum auch in der Nähe des Potsdamer Platzes, wo wir sogar noch den Mitarbeiter am Infoschalter direkt am Eingang ausdrücklich um Fotografieerlaubnis gebeten und diese auch bekommen hatten, sogar, was die – rücksichtsvolle (was sonst) – Benutzung von Stativen anbelangte. Als wir aber genau das taten, dauerte es nicht lange, bis ein Mitarbeiter der Haussicherheit auftauchte und uns erklärte, dass das Fotografieren nicht erlaubt sei – während neben uns einige Leute munter mit ihren Handys fotografierten. Widersprüche...

Von der Ruine des ehemaligen Anhalterbahnhofs geht der Blick auf das Tempodrom. Aufgenommen bei einer Fototour mit Flickr Freunden aus Berlin, Fürstenwalde, Darmstadt, Hanover und Baden-Württemberg.
Wie bei einem Kuchenrezept habe ich für mein Foto in Affinity, DXO und Luminar 4 das Rezept zusammengestellt.
Vorsichtig die einzelnen Zutaten zusammengemischt hier eine Prise und dort ein Schlückchen. Betrachtet und verworfen, neues ausprobiert solange bis ich mit meinem Ergebnis zufrieden war.
Wozu hat man die schönen Bearbeitungporgramme wenn man sie nicht nutzt um die wichtigen Teile eines Bildes vorsichtig herauskitzelt.

Like a cake recipe, I put together the recipe for my photo in Affinity, DXO and Luminar 4.
Carefully mixed the individual ingredients together, here a pinch and there a nip. Considered and discarded, tried new things until I was satisfied with the result.
What is the point of having beautiful editing programs if you don't use them to carefully tease out the important parts of a picture.

Depuis les ruines de l'ancienne gare Anhalterbahnhof, la vue s'étend jusqu'au Tempodrom. Prises lors d'une randonnée photo avec des amis Flickr de Berlin, Fürstenwalde, Darmstadt, Hanovre et Baden-Württemberg.
Comme une recette de gâteau, j'ai composé la recette de ma photo dans Affinity, DXO et Luminar 4.
J'ai soigneusement mélangé les différents ingrédients ensemble, ici une pincée et là une pointe. J'ai réfléchi et écarté, essayé de nouvelles solutions jusqu'à ce que je sois satisfait du résultat.
Quel est l'intérêt d'avoir de beaux programmes d'édition si vous ne les utilisez pas pour faire ressortir les parties importantes d'une image.

"Berlin Anhalter Bahnhof war bis Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts einer der wichtigsten Fernbahnhöfe in Berlin. Heute wird noch der gleichnamige Bahnhof der unterirdisch verkehrenden Nordsüd-S-Bahn betrieben.
Der Bahnhof war vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wichtigste Station für die Verbindungen nach Mittel- und Süddeutschland, Österreich und Italien. Das imposante Bahnhofsgebäude wurde bei alliierten Luftangriffen stark zerstört. Die Reste der Anlagen wurden trotz starker Proteste in der Öffentlichkeit 1959 abgerissen. Before the Second World War, the station was the most important station for connections to central and southern Germany, Austria and Italy. The imposing station building was heavily destroyed during Allied air raids. The remains of the facilities were demolished in 1959 despite strong protests from the public. The Tempodrom is a multi-purpose event venue in Berlin. Founded by Irene Moessinger, it opened in 1980 next to the Berlin Wall on the west side of Potsdamer Platz, housed in a large circus tent. After several changes of location it is now housed in a permanent building in the Kreuzberg neighborhood.
