Temple Emanu-El, Lake Street & Arguello Blvd, San Francisco CA
The first Rosh Hashanah service was held in 1849 at the corner of Jackson and Kearney Streets in a tent store for 30 people. In 1850 San Francisco Congregations Emanu-El and Sheith Israel were founded and the Congregation's first synagogue was dedicated on Broadway Street in 1854. The Arguello and Lake Street Synagogue was dedicated in 1926 - - and includes in its membership Senator Dianne Feinstein.

Karaneeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple located in the neighbourhood of Saidapet in Chennai, India. It is dedicated to the god Shiva. The main deity is Lord Karaneeswara (Shiva) and Goddess Swarnaambikai (Sakthi). This temple has a beautiful tank. The temple is heavily crowded on Pradhosham days. Annual ten day Brahmotsavam takes place in the Tamil month of Chithirai.
The Baphuon (Khmer: ប្រាសាទបាពួន) is a temple at Angkor, Cambodia. It is located in Angkor Thom, northwest of the Bayon. Built in the mid-11th century, it is a three-tiered temple mountain built as the state temple of Udayadityavarman II dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva. It is the archetype of the Baphuon style. The temple adjoins the southern enclosure of the royal palace and measures 120 metres east-west by 100 metres north-south at its base and stands 34 meters tall without its tower, which would have made it roughly 50 meters tall. Its appearance apparently impressed Temür Khan's late 13th century envoy Chou Ta-kuan during his visit from 1296 to 1297, who said it was 'the Tower of Bronze...a truly astonishing spectacle, with more than ten chambers at its base.' In the late 15th century, the Baphuon was converted to a Buddhist temple. A 9 meter tall by 70 meter long statue of a reclining Buddha was built on the west side's second level, which probably required the demolition of the 8 meter tower above, thus explaining its current absence. The temple was built on land filled with sand, and due to its immense size the site was unstable throughout its history. Large portions had probably already collapsed by the time the Buddha was added.

By the 20th century, much of the temple had largely collapsed, and restoration efforts have since proven problematic: a first effort begun in 1960 was interrupted by the coming to power of the Khmer Rouge, and records of the positions of the stones were lost. A second attempt started in 1995 by a team of French-led archeologists as of 2005 was still ongoing, restricting visitor access. As of November 2010, partial visitor access was once again allowed, though not to the central structure.
In April 2011, after 51 years, the archaeologists finished the restoration of the temple. King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia and Prime Minister Francois Fillon of France were among those who first toured the renovated temple during the inauguration ceremony on July 3, 2011

The Bahá'í House of Worship in New Delhi, India, popularly known as the Lotus Temple due to its flowerlike shape, is a Bahá'í House of Worship and also a prominent attraction in Delhi. It was completed in 1986 and serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent. It has won numerous architectural awards and been featured in hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles.
Like all other Bahá'í Houses of Worship, the Lotus Temple is open to all regardless of religion, or any other distinction, as emphasized in Bahá'í texts. The Bahá'í laws emphasize that the spirit of the House of Worship be that it is a gathering place where people of all religions may worship God without denominational restrictions.[2] The Bahá'í laws also stipulate that only the holy scriptures of the Bahá'í Faith and other religions can be read or chanted inside in any language; while readings and prayers can be set to music by choirs, no musical instruments can be played inside. Furthermore no sermons can be delivered, and there can be no ritualistic ceremonies practiced.

On special occasions, a ceremony is enacted, with the reigning monarch requesting permission to enter the City of London. The Lord Mayor of London then offers the monarch the city's pearl-encrusted Sword Of State as a token of loyalty to the Crown.
The Temple Bar was originally there to regulate trade into the commercial sector of the city and had a stone built gateway that now stands near St. Paul's Cathedral in Paternoster Square.

I took this photo of my favorite adventure less than a week after I acquired my first DSLR, back when I knew hardly anything about photography. Surprisingly, it turned out really well from a technical standpoint. Everything is properly exposed, and nothing is too light or too dark. For as nicely as it turned out, I'm surprised it's taken this long to post on Flickr.
The Golden Temple at Amritsar, India (Sri Harimandir Sahib Amritsar) is the central religious place of the Sikhs of India. It also represents the distinct identity, glory and heritage of the Sikhs. It is a place better experienced than described.
The Amrit Sarovar (Holy Tank) was constructed in 1588. Soon after, construction of the Sri Harimandir Sahib was started and in 1604 it was completed.
The Golden Temple has a unique architecture. Built at a level lower than the surrounding land, the Gurudwara teaches the lesson of egalitarianism and humility. The four entrances of this holy shrine from all four directions signify that people belonging to every walk of life are equally welcome.
While the temple does have its permanent employees, the bulk of the work is done by 'Kar Sevaks' - volunteers from different walks of life who offer their services for free. The cleanliness of the temple and the efficiency with which it is run speaks of the Kar Sevak's devotion to duty.
Dambulla, Sri Lanka.It is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m (520 ft) over the surrounding plains.There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings. This paintings and statues are related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of god and goddess. The latter 4 include two statues of Hindu gods, Vishnu and Ganesh. The murals cover an area of 2,100 m². Depictions in the walls of the caves include Buddha's temptation by demon Mara and Buddha's first sermon.
The area is thought to be inhabited from as early as the 7th to 3rd century BC. Statues and paintings in these caves date back to the 1st century BC. But the paintings and statues were repaired and repainted in the 11th, 12th, and 18th century AD.
