The Bhimashankara temple is a composite of old and the new structures and is built in the Nagara style of architecture. It is a modest temple yet graceful temple and it dates back to mid 18th century. The shikhara of the temple was built by Nana Phadnavis. The great Maratha ruler Shivaji is also said to have made endowments to this temple to facilitate the carrying out, of worship services. As with other Shiva temples in this area, the sanctum is at a lower level.
Although the structure here is fairly new, the shrine Bhimashankaram (and the Bhimarathi river) have been referred to in literature dating back to the 13th century CE. Saint Jnaneshwar is said to have visited Tryambakeshwar and Bhimashankar. Chimaji Appa ( brother of Nanasaheb Peshva & son of Bajirao Peshva) has presented a large chime which he has won in war against Portuguese at Vasai Fort.
The Golden Temple at Amritsar, India (Sri Harimandir Sahib Amritsar) is the central religious place of the Sikhs of India. It also represents the distinct identity, glory and heritage of the Sikhs. It is a place better experienced than described.
The Amrit Sarovar (Holy Tank) was constructed in 1588. Soon after, construction of the Sri Harimandir Sahib was started and in 1604 it was completed.
The Golden Temple has a unique architecture. Built at a level lower than the surrounding land, the Gurudwara teaches the lesson of egalitarianism and humility. The four entrances of this holy shrine from all four directions signify that people belonging to every walk of life are equally welcome.
While the temple does have its permanent employees, the bulk of the work is done by 'Kar Sevaks' - volunteers from different walks of life who offer their services for free. The cleanliness of the temple and the efficiency with which it is run speaks of the Kar Sevak's devotion to duty.
The Temple Church is a late-12th-century church in London located between Fleet Street and the River Thames, built for and by the Knights Templar as their English headquarters. In modern times, two Inns of Court (Inner Temple and Middle Temple) both use the church. It is famous for its effigy tombs and for being a round church. It was heavily damaged during the Second World War but has been largely restored. The area around the Temple Church is known as the Temple and nearby is Temple Bar and Temple tube station.

Dambulla, Sri Lanka.It is the largest and best preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock towers 160 m (520 ft) over the surrounding plains.There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings. This paintings and statues are related to Lord Buddha and his life. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of god and goddess. The latter 4 include two statues of Hindu gods, Vishnu and Ganesh. The murals cover an area of 2,100 m². Depictions in the walls of the caves include Buddha's temptation by demon Mara and Buddha's first sermon.
The area is thought to be inhabited from as early as the 7th to 3rd century BC. Statues and paintings in these caves date back to the 1st century BC. But the paintings and statues were repaired and repainted in the 11th, 12th, and 18th century AD.
A recently built “Namdrolling Monastry”, a famous Tibetan Golden Temple, is a feast to the eyes in Bylukuppe(Madikeri(Coorg),Karnataka). The Golden Temple adorned with a 60 ft Buddha statue and the recent addition of Zamdong Palri the copper coloured mountain is an exotic tourist attraction. Fascinating shopping marts selling ethnic Tibetan artefacts and modern fashion wares is a place to be visited. It is also the second largest Tibetan settlement in India
We had a morning in Beijing before we caught the train to Datong and visited the Temple of Heaven Complex.
Thi is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, a magnificent triple-gabled circular building, 36 meters in diameter and 38 meters tall, built on three levels of marble stone base, where the Emperor prayed for good harvests. The building is completely wooden, with no nails. The original building was burned down by a fire caused by lightning in 1889. The current building was re-built several years after the incident.
There were numerous tourist groups visiting, many identified by theirbrightly coloured matching clothing.
Ananda is considered the most beautiful, most beloved and best-preserved temple in Bagan. Built in 1091 by Kyanzittha, the temple is said to represent the endless wisdom of Buddha.
The central square has sides of 53 metres and rises in terraces to a height of 51 metres above the ground. In the centre of the cube are four golden standing Buddha images, each 9.5 metres high, which represent the four Buddhas who have attained nirvana.
