Brihadishvara Temple, also referred to as Rajesvara Peruvudaiyar or Brihadeeswarar Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India.[1][3] It is one of the largest South Indian temple and an exemplary example of a fully realized Tamil architecture.[4] Built by Raja Raja Chola I between 1003 and 1010 AD, the temple is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Great Living Chola Temples", along with the Chola dynasty era Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple and Airavatesvara temple that are about 70 kilometres (43 mi) and 40 kilometers (25 mi) to its northeast respectively.[5]

Palitana temple complex on the Shatrunjaya hills are a real breathtaking site- around 900 temples after climbing about 3600 steps from the ground level. One can climb that in about 2 hours while the fittest ones take just about an hour.
The most venerable and the one honouring the founder of Jainism is the Adinath temple at the extreme end on the hill. With a slender tower over the shrine, the Adinath temple honors the first tirthankar Lord Rishabhdev of Jainism, who is said to have achieved enlightenment on this spot. Lord Rishabhdev had a sign of an Ox on his thigh and before he was born, his mother Marudeva had seen 14 dreams out of which the first was an Ox. He was the first to start the religion and thats why he is also known as 'Adinath'.
As the civilisation evolved, religion and temples and other religious centres acted as focal point of societies around the world. India is no exception.
Many large temples in ancient and mediaeval India acted as learning centres. Religion was instrumental in laying ethics for the society, gave art, craft, sculpture, music, performing arts and linguistics a huge boost.
Tarakeswara Temple located in a small dusty town of Hangal, even today is centre for various societal activities.
When I visited this ancient temple, a group of women from around the locality were having their regular meeting. I was told that they exchange information, practice music and even exchange recipes while they meet under the roofs of this ancient temple.

In Halebid - Image of Durga - the ten armed Goddess slaying Mahishasura, or the Bufallo demon (a story from Hindu Mythology). Durga is a personification of Shakti, or divine power in a feminine form.
The Jalakanteshwara temple in Vellore was built in the late Vijayanagar style. There is a wonderful kalyana mandapa (Marriage hall) which is a treasurehouse of amazing stone sculptures.

Varadharaja Perumal Temple or Hastagiri or Attiyuran is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located in the holy city of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the Divya Desams, the 108 temples of Vishnu believed to have been visited by the 12 poet saints, or Alwars.[1] It is located in a suburb of Kanchipuram known as the Vishnu Kanchi that is a home for many famous Vishnu temples. One of the greatest Hindu scholars of Vaishnava VisishtAdvaita philosophy, Ramanuja is believed to have resided in this temple.[2] The temple along with Ekambareswarar Temple and Kamakshi Amman Temple in Kanchipuram is popularly known as Mumurtivasam (abode of trio),[3] while Srirangam is referred to as ‘ The Koil’ (meaning: "temple") and Tirupati as the ‘Malai’ (Meaning: "hill").
