One of the largest fires in Belfast in many years started on Tuesday 28th August 2018 in the Primark Store in Belfast City Centre. The Store is housed in the historic Bank Buildings five storey building in Royal Avenue in the commercial heart of the City.
The Bank Buildings building was built in 1785 and managed to survive the World War years and also the bombings of the Troubles in Northern Ireland during the 1970’s – 1990’s.
The fire took hold on the roof of the building at 11:00 on Tuesday and burned for 3 ½ days in what was a difficult operation for local fire crews. The building was nearing completion of a £30 million refurbishment at the time of the blaze.
The following set of photos shows the early stages of the fire with crews from NIFRS in attendance and the days after the fire was put out with the charred sandstone façade awaiting its fate amid the clean-up operation.
The fire has effectively cut the City Centre into two and left the Royal Avenue area of the City more or less a Ghost Town!

We humans naturally interpret their skyward striving as an expression of yearning to be put into service. Would you look at the large pallet fork attachments on those roller booms.
All the lifted booms on those telescopic handlers, they trigger a childlike enthusiasm for wanting to hug objects as though they're plush toys: I'm surprised there isn't barbed wire atop the chainlink.
I was there on an Off Day: See the lush outcropping that googoo streetv'w saw on the secret day of its driveby.

Having a repair done on it at Lyme Regis on 14-06-11, JCB type 535-95 Agri, it is a telescopic handler, first registered on 01-10-10, 4400cc engine, diesel. I'm not sure if he's having trouble fixing it 'cos he's on the phone?? The Ford Transit to the side is VN56 DRX, 2402cc diesel engine, first registered 07-02-07.
Technical details of the telescopic handler are as follows; 100hp (Agri) JCB Dieselmax engines provide massive low-end torque for increased productivity.
Instant steering selection between all-wheel steer, front-wheel steer and crab-steer modes ensures ease of operation, whilst a tight turn radius of 3.7 metres gives greater manoeuvrability.
Forward reach of 6.5 metres, lift capacity 3.5 tonnes and lift height of 9.5 metres, all improve productive capability.
Agri Super and Agri Xtra have the new 6-speed Powershift transmission that has TorqueLock in 5th and 6th gears for optimum travel performance. Agri and Agri Plus feature a 4 speed Powershift transmission.
6-speed TorqueLock transmission offers three main operating modes, Eco, Power and Field, which are selected to match the application.
Load sensing LSP+ hydraulics with maximum flow of 110l/min standard on the Agri and Agri Plus models. New closed centre load sensing piston pump hydraulics with a maximum flow of 140l/min with ‘dial-up’ constant-flow auxiliary feature is standard on Agri super and Agri Xtra models, but also optional on Agri plus models.
