This store opened in 1985 as a Big Star grocery store in Raleigh at the intersection of Western and Buck Jones Rd. In 1988 Harris Teeter purchased the Big Star chain as a way to expand into the Triangle market. Walking around this store is kind of like walking around a Food Lion with Harris Teeter signage. These older Harris Teeters are becoming quite rare as the chain has closed most of their old stores in recent years.

she's crazy ...........

A dead tree teeters on the edge of the rapidly-eroding cliff. It will soon join its siblings on the beach.

I noticed this prominent balanced rock while watching the video of my 5/22/18 return hike to Secret Pocket. I captured a frame of the video to share here. This precariously poised rock is visible on the sand wash on the way to Secret Pocket beyond the Watchtower.

A short distance ahead the ridge ends and Secret Pocket opens on the left. Some of the Paria Puppets can be seen about 100 yards away on right across the valley at the foot of Caterpillar Mesa.

I have photographed this empty farm house for the last three years. I fear it is getting to the stage where it is past repairing.

This is a first for me. Having read about these birds before made it much easier to identify. This is a spotted sandpiper, minus the spots, obviously. During the breeding season spotted sandpipers are endowed with they have bold dark spots on their breast and belly. When in non-breeding plumage, like this one, they do not. What they do have, that is so characteristic, is a teeter tottering bounce to their gait. Their rear ends bounce up and down, constantly, even when standing still. It's as if they are rocking to music that only they can hear! This little fellow wasn't shy at all. I was sprawled across the coral and stone shoreline, belly down, when it decided to walk right up to me. It go so close that I could no longer focus the camera. I hope to catch one of these medium sized sandpipers when dressed in breeding plumage someday. If you see one, you'll never forget it. No other bird walks quite the same way (except for its Eurasian counterpart). #ILoveNature #ILoveWildlife #ILoveBirds #WildlifePhotography in #Florida #Nature in #America #USA #SpottedSandpiper #WildlifeConservation #Canon #Bringit #DrDADBooks #Photography #Picoftheday #Photooftheday

This is one of the many names given to the Spotted Sandpiper because of its unusual bobbing movements. It's tail bobs up and down even when standing, otherwise, still. It makes these birds easily recognizable, even at a distance. This teetering motion increases when the birds are nervous, but stops when the birds are alarmed or being aggressive. I find it funny that the Spotted Sandpipers in Chatsworth Lake are so wary, and the one I photographed in Flamingo Florida last year practically climbed onto my camera. I hope to find the group in Chatsworth Lake again. Hopefully, next time they will have chicks. #iLoveNature #iLoveWildlife #WildlifePhotography in #NewJersey #Nature in #NorthAmerica #USA #SpottedSandpipers #DrDADBooks #Canon #WildlifeConservation

A vertical pano catches the entire giant tree as it perilously totters on its steep bank of a normally tame jungle stream. The last monsoon deposited deluges enough to erode the clay from under this senior forest custodian.
