The Wix filter has no bypass and a heavy duty canister, the bypass in the filter base is also plugged,so the eng. will get filtered oil or nothing.Brad Penn SAE30 break-in racing oil + cam lube additive was used, then changed to Rotella T 15W-40 + cam lube additive. The factory oil press. gauge is pegged @ 80psi. with cold oil, and will still hold 65psi.@idle hot,off idle the gauge is pegged with hot oil so I'm thinking I will change to a thinner synthetic + cam lube additive for the next change. The Rotella T still has higher amounts of Zinc,Phosphorus, and anti-wear additives in it because it is formulated for heavy duty diesel engines, but it also is a very high detergent oil[for soot] that is not necessary for gas engines. No cold weather starts,or RPM with cold oil for this engine.

I did not take a picture looking up the cylinder bore from the bottom because the crank was installed at this point{forgot},but this link shows how well chamber/bore alignment is with the bore size, same casting but my chamber was not polished.

Port alignment after welding, blending, and gasket match to correct mismatch from Victor Jr.to Dart Port. The gasket in this photo is not the one I used, but it was the same thickness as my gasket with the "printed seal" on it,so I used it as a "spacer" to get correct port alignment.

Intake port is CNC bowl-blended/pocket ported as they came from Dart.I used some modeling clay to check V/P radius clearance, and a dial indicator to check V/P clearance with the cam set to 105.5 centerline, and still have some room to "grow" with keeping minimum clearances up top,the closest lobe to rod clearance was #6 @ .125" and will require a small base circle cam if I ever decide to go with a roller and more lobe lift.

Callies advertised that the Compstar Rods will clear a .660" lift cam on a .900" base circle with a 4.000" stroke crank without any modification to the rod.I used a 1.125" base circle cam with the stock stroke 3.750" crank and a 1.6 rocker ratio to bring the lift back up some, thinking it would be less camshaft deflection than the small base circle roller with higher spring pressures, and of course the money difference.

I removed the pump cover, relief valve and spring and brazed around the pickup tube to prevent it from sucking any air,the pickup tube also has a heavy duty bracket that bolts to the pump cover to prevent cracks from vibration, the pickup sits between 1/4" to 3/8" from the bottom of the pan.The high volume pump is old school thinking for a small block Chevy, they do not have oiling problems with a stock pump and the high volume takes power to drive,I decided to use it because of the lifter grooves adding alot of "leaks" to the oil system and I wanted to flood the cam lobe with oil, sacrificing some power for endurance.old school still works.

How To Install '69 LED Sequential Taillights
LED taillights and sequential turn signals are easy to install, and now they fit other vintage Mustangs besides '65-'66s

In our Oct. '04 issue, we showed you how to install Mustang Project's cool sequential LED taillights in a '65-'66 Mustang. This time we're switching gears by using a '69 instead of the earliest of Mustangs. Just like the first couple of years, the '67-'69s also have three-bar taillights, which makes these cars as receptive to this intriguing and easy-to-install upgrade.
For the most part, installing the LED modules in a '69 is much the same as with a '65-'66, but there are some differences, so the procedure takes a few extra steps and a little more time to complete. The main task is completely removing the taillight housing, which doesn't need to be done with the older cars because once the lens is removed on a '65-'66, the LED taillight-module simply plugs right in.
In any case, installing Mustang Project's kit is still easy on '67-'69s, and we were ready to go with cool Shelby/Thunderbird/Mercury Cougar-style sequential turn signals in about half an hour.

The new rebuild has 40 min. run time on it and 0 miles. The plan is to put some low RPM miles on,install the inner valve springs, change the break-in oil and it should be ready to rock, then I can start trying some lash loops to find the best power curve and manners for driveability,it is really rowdy sounding right now at a idle. The radiator is from BeCool, and the A/C condenser has been removed to make room for the trans. cooler at the bottom of the radiator.
The windage tray did not clear the rod bolts when the engine is turned over, and I should have looked at this the numerous other times I had the rotating assy. mocked up.But No!!!!,I saved this little oversight for one of the last things I did.I put a 90 deg. bend on the tray thinking it would act somewhat like a crank scraper, and help direct the "roping" oil to the kickout in the pan, that also made it very rigid after all the bending and reshaping for rod bolt clearance.I also Brazed the oil pickup onto the Melling high volume oil pump,it will not fall off or suck air now.I measured the depth of 7 quarts fluid in the pan and cut new marks on the dipstick for full and add,so I knew that the oil level would still be below the windage tray drain louvers.

It got ugly before I was finished, the rod bolts hit the windage tray so I cut, ground, bent, and generally reshaped the tray for clearance, the ARP main studs could have been a little longer to set the tray down more, but without a deeper front section of the pan it would not allow it,so the nuts[top and bottom] got a heavy dose of red thread locker and tightened just flush with the stud on the bottom nut.It was frustrating and the tray almost got added to the scrap pile but determination won the day.My old 406 did not have a windage tray, but I thought that the cup shape of the H-beam rod would cause more windage.

Energy Suspension polyurethane mounts and Autolite AR3933 racing plugs. The mark on the plug is for indexing the ground electrode towards the head, the plug has a cut back electrode, and with the modern head chamber design it's hard to say if it will help anything, but it can't hurt.
