I’ve shown Pyro off on my previous account, but I figured I may as well post it here as well.
Fairly simplistic design for a functionally simple character- at least for most people lol
Commission for a friends kid for Demoman for Team Fortress 2.
Never played the game, but I enjoyed making the fig, especially modding the BrickArms grenade launcher!
Vest base, pouches, weapon mods, leg and arm trim and mustache all made from Styrene, 40mm grenades made from toothpicks and the bottle modded from a Lego trophy.
Hope you like.
C&C welcome.
P.S. I didn't tag anyone other than Mr Clapham, as I wasn't sure if people were finding it annoying being tagged to all my photos. If you are reading this and are one of the people that I usually tag, let me know if you're ok with it and I'll continue to tag.
The entire team at once.
I did the team in red because that seems to be the signature color of the game. A blue team may be forthcoming...
This was my first attempt at doing miniland-scale figures. I have to say, they're pretty fun to make. The scale can allow for a surprising amount of detail, but the real key to making these is getting the proportions right. I can't say I did that 100% (some of these are probably too tall, excluding the Heavy), but overall I'm very satisfied.
FYI - for anyone in the Chicago area, I'll be bringing these figures and many more of my displays to the Wizard World Comic Con this weekend. Look for us in the far back corner.
Wizard World was great! I don't know if we'll be back next year, but I hope so!
I built this a while ago during the height of my TF2 addiction. Just one more hat...
On another note, tomorrow I leave the Boston area (relevant to MOC) for college at the University of CIncinnati. I won't be uploading much other than a couple of backlogged MOCs, but I'll do my best to stay active in the community! See ya guys around!
And as always, enjoy! :)
P.S. Sorry for the sub-par photography, this guy was pretty hard to photograph for some reason.
For some reason I thought eight hours ago "hey, maybe try to fake a balaclava for Schwarz, just for a quick picture" :'D
I totally underestimated how long the editing would need, but oh well.
When Schwarz' white parts (like the eye/arm) were mentioned in the past I sometimes brought up their reason for it.
Malfunction of his shapeshifting device, yadda yadda. I also more than once already said that the device is actually pretty silly because there is no way something like this could exist in the chess world.
We have no magic, and technology is mostly still pretty old timey. We also never explain how it works, Schwarz/Weiss just own such a thing and use it. That's it.
And because I can't really get rid of Schwarz' white bits I (we) just kinda accept it.
Anyway, I never really mentioned how we came up with it. When we started planning the chess world both of us were heavily into Team Fortress 2.
The whole shapeshifting thingy was borrowed from Spy there, and I thought maybe it's time to channel Schwarz' inner TF2 Spy (also because I am back in TF2 hell since a few weeks).
I took some fabric, pulled it over his face and clipped the hell out of it; afterwards I closed his clothes on top. I took two pictures, one with and one without fabric, and later merged them together.
I will post the unedited picture for fun later on Instagram too.

Your eviction’s notice is prescribed with boom
Not gonna lie, I love TF2, but if there’s one class that isn’t my favorite to go against, it’s this guy.
That said, he’s also one of my favorites to play, sooooo I don’t know what that says about me lol
This one is a pretty simple custom, but I actually had bigger plans for him originally. There was this Power Miners vest that I was planning on giving him to wear, but unfortunately, I could never find it. As a result, the paint job is a little more on the plain side, but if I ever do find that vest, I’ll probably update Demoman when that happens.
I should also mention that I took inspiration for the grenade launcher from a picture I found online. www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/1aw05m/you_asked_for_it_her... this one, to be exact.
Whoop
One of the few other characters that's not a class I was able to make. Apart from trying to figure out his chest hair, he was pretty simple.
Sniping’s a good job, but I’m not very good at it-
Despite sinking quite a few hours as Sniper, I was never all that good at hitting headshots. Body shots for days, but not headshots....
Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Anyway, I didn’t have the hat I wanted to use for Sniper, so I went with the second best thing. All in all, I like how he is. Not my best work, but certainly not bad.
As yes, everyone favorite class, but the one that never gets played :(
Also sorry for the hiatus, got caught up with work and didn’t have anything to post. Should get back into the swing of things soon though. I’ve got some good stuff planned to show >:)
In simple terms, I basically slightly modified her hair, legs, and sniper, and the real work was put into the arms. Now she without a doubt looks more accurate.
Soooo I made the mistake of forgetting to upload my dudes. College struck me hard and I’m trying to get my bearings. I made all 9 mercs though! I just need to upload them
Soldier here was really fun to make despite his simple look. His facial shadow stuff and helmet are my favorite parts about him.
Thanks for being patient, I’ll have the others up soon
At long last I managed to make the final class of the Red team, not the last if the TF2 characters for sure, I have one other made and others I'm planning on making, still trying to figure out the Sentry Buster and some of the other accessories. Anyways onto this guy, what makes him a good Demoman fig? Well I used the cloth thing I removed from a duplicate Garmadon body for him, a Kreo armor, and a Ninjago movie mask as his collar. The Demo gun is also from Kreo in case you were wondering.
So I had started working on the blue team counterparts a few weeks ago, but I found that many of the parts I had used for Red were simply not available in blue colors. I'm not liking some of the substitutions I was forced to make (not seen here), so I think I'm near the end of this little project.
On to the next...
i couldn't quite get the color scheme and focus quite right on this - oh well - just another quick hack snapshot from last night!
this is the main gift i got for my boyfriend this xmas and probably one of the gifts that was most well received. he's a hardcore TF2 fan and i know he really, really wanted this! i took the pic right after he unboxed it and put it on the dining room table for temporary admiration.
i should really take some better photos of my boyfriend's figure/toy collection at some point because although we have a little bit of overlap in some areas, a lot of his tastes are a completely different flavor to mine which makes for a fairly great contrast, and that is one thing i love about him.
he also got me some really perfect gifts this year, and although i am happy that he knows me well enough to know exactly what i would like, i am even happier with the sentiment behind the best thing he gave me.
So, for some reason, this is the class that I’ve invested the most time into.
To be honest, he’s actually like really *really* hard to play properly. Seriously, I watched a YouTube video and the guy there agreed with me-
I still think Spy is a really fun and interesting class considering that you need a lot of psychological knowledge and game sense in order to play him well. He’s like, manipulation incarnate, because you have to play each individual player’s hamstrings just right in order for you to get a kill.
In fact, that’s probably what separates a good Spy player from a bad one.
He still stinks in 6v6 though.
Don’t play Spy in 6v6.
Custom-wise, it’s pretty simple. I forget what headpiece I used exactly, but eh, I say it works lol
Comes with a gun so heavy that I had to get him a stand to pose for this photo lol
Ohhhhh boy Team Fortress 2, the best game probably. Heavy isn’t exactly my most played class, but ooooh, is he fun. I personally love the Brass Beast and how dumb it is damage-wise. It doesn’t always get people, but when it does, I somehow rack up a 10+ kill streak.
Anyway, this custom isn’t anything too special. It’s hard to explain most of the details since his gun covers most of them, but for the more important ones, Heavy basically wears a painted life vest and glued-on cape piece for his bullet sling. The gun is also pretty unique I think, but should be easy to replicate.
This was supposed to be a simple custom for the most part with just a tad bit of flair. Not my best work, but I certainly think it works as a Heavy memento and unofficial merch lol
The Defensive classes: Engineer, Heavy, and Demoman. "Heavy" is short for "Heavy Weapons Guy." Demoman is short for "Demolitions Man."
So I actually had a lot of fun creating Pyro here; he’s definitely one of my more creative customs to say the least.
I see people either printing or molding his mask, but I like my LEGO customs to be a bit more exaggerated to reflect the wacky design seen in official figures. Ended up using bits of LEGO pieces instead believe it or not.
In hindsight, the mask might be a bit too much, but there’s a certain charm to it I just can’t shake.
Demoman up next!
I love this image....
It might be my favorite I took @ San Diego Comic-Con
I had just walked onto the con floor and he was just standing there....
I didn't set this shot up....
I just noticed him standing there and had to capture this
LOVE LOVE LOVE it
because I love it.... no one will look at it....lol
so goes life on Flickr
Photoshop for colour correction, grain, and some of the bloom. Everything else is in-engine. SFM render is here.
Nine mercenaries have come together for a job. It's the middle-ish part of a century a lot like the one we just had. A simpler time. There are three TV stations, one phone company, and two holding corporations that secretly control every government on the planet. Each corporation administers its half of the world with a multi-disciplined army of paper pushers. For any problem lacking an obvious bureaucratic solution, mercenaries like these are contracted to address the situation through a massive application of force.
Now's your chance to Meet the Team.
After almost a month of saying I'll post it, I finally have. Phew, now to get back to actually playing it...
Oh, and the dio is based off Dustbowl.
Sup dudes
So I’m about ready to start college, but I’ve managed to whip up a fun line of customs before I start that.
Say hello to the Scout! I’ve been playing the heck out of Team Fortress 2 lately, and it’s inspired me to make the cast. These guys aren’t *as* popular to make customs of, but I figured I could take my own spin on them and see how they turn out.
Scout here is a very basic custom. I plan on fixing up his Scattergun later just so it looks like the actual one more. I’ve got a few ideas I’m gonna put into action and see how they turn out.
Also Merry Late Christmas/Happy New Year everyone! Here’s to 2019 being an even better year than 2018
