This image was taken from Baker Beach in San Francisco, across the Golden Gate strait to the lighthouse in Marin, the viewing distance should be about 3 miles far away. I used a 200-500mm lens plus a TC-17E (1.7x) teleconverter in order to get this maximal sun.
Thank you for taking the time to view this image, and best wishes for your happy snapping wherever!

DSC_7461DS • Whimbrel
Love going to the beach in the early morning when no one is around & no one to disturb the shorebirds. The shorebirds just walk by in front just foraging for their breakfast.
DSC_7162DS2 • I just reported this BRPE banded T39 to USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center Bird Banding & hopefully receive my certificate with the information about this particular bird.
DSC_7424DS • Willet
In the early morning, when no one else is at the beach, the shorebirds kept walking right in front of me as I sit in the sand.
DSC_6056DS2 • Entire frame as taken, no crop whatsoever. Of course, just based on the picture, hard to tell the size but this one was definitely still smaller than the adult Common Loon.
DSC_4443DS • drake in alternate plumage
One of my favourite ducks. The beauty of the drake lies not so much in its colours but on its magnificent vermiculation.
