“How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.”

― Paul Bowles, The Sheltering Sky

I think I over did it in Light Room tonight! I created a wintry scene out of an autumnal shot...

tbilisi. georgia. botanical garden.

Here is one of my favourite pictures from my last trip in the Georgia. A country of which majority people does not know about. Georgia is a small country located to the south of the Russia, between Black and Caspian Sea. Reach with its famous culture and history. It has diverse regions, started from the mountains of the south Caucasus, ended to the Black sea.

2017.04 Tbilisi, Georgia

Narikala is an ancient fortress on hill rising above Tbilisi. It consists of two walled parts. On the lower courtyard there is a restored church of St. Nicholas.

The fortress was built in the 4th century, considerably expanded by the Umayyads in the 7th century and then the King David the Builder (1089-1125). Most of the fortifications that survived date from the 16th to the 17th century. In 1827, part of the fortress was destroyed by an earthquake and dismantled.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”

The city of Tbilisi in Georgia.

Some of the highlights of Tbilisi can be seen. The Narikala fortress, the TV tower on the Mtatsminda, the Metekhi church on the right bank of the river Kura.

I love Tbilisi even though it isn't mine...

In the foreground is the Metekhi Church and you can see the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi in the background. It is also known as the Tsminda Sameba Cathedral.

Tbilisi has a wonderful variation in architectural features adding to the character of the city. They've wisely chosen to retain much of their architectural past unlike many cities that bulldoze their history away without a second thought.

The Tbilisi Botanical Garden is a centuries-old garden in the historical center of Tbilisi. Since ancient times, the Botanical Garden was the royal gardens, with references found in the manuscripts of travelers dating back to the 17th century. With time, the gardens transformed into an arboretum, and at about 1845 acquired its current look. This makes the Tbilisi Botanical Garden one of the oldest botanical gardens in the former Soviet Union.

There are over 3500 types of plants in the Tbilisi Botanical Garden. Across the area of 128 hectares are both local and world plants, plus pavilions, shady alleys, a few waterfalls, and bridges, all for the comfort of visitors. The gardens are an ideal spot for walking and biking.

The collection of rare plants at the Botanical Garden will be of interest to those who love plants. There is also an old Muslim cemetery on the territory of the gardens, where many distinguished figures from the history of the Caucasus are buried. And anyone can enjoy a quiet moment in nature while sitting in the shade of a centuries-old tree near the river.

View over the old town of Tbilisi, Georgia, the spot where I took the photo was being remodeled with concrete steps at the time and it wasn't possible to go higher up to....whatever chapel or shrine is up there. Happy Sunday to everyone.
