The poor track maintenance in Bulgaria, followed by the increasing amount of accidents recently, is not necessarily a bad thing for the local railway enthusiast.
Three representatives of the TBD fleet are getting ready to pull three coal trains to the Bobov Thermal Power Plant on the normally "passengers only" stretch of line 5 between Sofia and Pernik.
And it seems that Zaharna Fabrika station is recalling the glorious days of the past...
Three of the four electric locomotives class 44 of the private railway operator TBD Cargo are serving a heavy coal train between Dimitrovgrad and Sofia. All of these locomotives were bought from the State railway operator - BDZ before a couple years ago. After a major overhaul in Czech Republic, now they are operating only on these coal trains for the Bobov dol thermal power plant. The photo is taken at Pobit kamak stop, near Sofia.
44 072 and 60 1243 with full coal train depart from station Kostinbrod. On back side of train is 60 0819.
TBD Cargo 43 556 after general overhaul in Koncar (Sofia) wait for freight train in Voluyak station. This is first test train for this machine.
Freight train 50503 had just arrived at Voluyak station with double LDE 2100 tractive force. After a short stop the train proceeded on its route to Dupnitsa.
My first plane in a long time! I decided to build the TBD, mainly because I'm probably going to do a VT-8 tribute at some point. I personally think it's pretty nice. I tried to have the bombardier/radioman in the plane, but it didn't look right when I attempted it. I also would've liked to incorporate the forward hanging torpedo, but it doesn't look very good in the landing position. The engine and rear-facing .30s are Capt. Hill's design.
Thanks guys!
A few weeks ago, Tom & I were able to get away for a quick trip to Colorado just in time to catch some of the fall color. It had been some time since we were able to venture out, so we were quite excited. We had a few things on our "to do" list that didn't involve photography, but rest assured we incorporated some photographic adventures along the way.
We tried to "just wing" the trip regarding photography ... hoping to capture the fall colors, which made an early arrival this autumn. One of the areas that we wanted to explore was the San Juan Mountains. This image was simply taken along the road ... to what was roughly "destination TBD". It could not have been a more beautiful day ... nice and cool for us to be refreshed, sunny day that still offered a bit of clouds along the way, and gorgeous scenery such as this the entire way. It was just breathtaking. Just what my soul desperately needed after a summer full of challenges.
While enjoying Colorado, we found the time to meet up with some friends along the way, explore new areas, and go 4-wheeling on some of the roads less traveled (big shout out to Rick Louie Photography for that amazing adventure). Of course, it wouldn't be 2016 without some more challenges along the way in the form of an unexpected Cat 4 hurricane taking sights on south Florida (i.e. my coastal home). After the initial panic mode that ensued, we actually got a bonus side trip to Rocky Mountain NP out of it, just in time for the elk rut season, so I certainly couldn't complain. Life is good.
Thanks so much for stopping by to view. I hope that everyone is having a fantastic weekend. South Florida is actually having a cold front right now ... it's a brisk low 60's outside. LOL Joking aside, it does feel amazing!

Double Sulzer power for the Beli breg's coal train. On the back of the train a helper engine is 60 0819.
Veteran Leyland Olympian G801 TBD, descending Royal Oak Way, Daventry. It looks very sunny in this shot, but the sky behind me was solid cloud, and this was taken during a small break in the clouds. I have only uploaded this for the benefit of Richard so he can se what the shadows are like if he wants to pop over. There are not many gaps at this time of year, and the bus is about to turn left here, and as a result, is missing some of the shadow it would have been in had it gone straight ahead.
G729 TBD, a Leyland Olympian owned by Hunters of Daventry, is photographed at Bugbrooke, Northamptonshire, as it takes school children to the local Campion School. 19th July 2016
TBD's 44 083 ahead of a coal train for Bobov dol power plant. Due to the lack of enough electric locos TBD still get some help from BDZ with some of their trains. In this case the helper machine of this 2000 t freight train is the BDZ Cargo loco 44 108.
Usually Zaharna fabrika is a "passenger only" station, but for more than a month is one of the busiest stations in Bulgaria. Due to the heavy derailment of a freight train on the other "cargo" line from Sofia to Pernik, this much shorter, but steep line is rushed by freight trains. On the photo 43 546 of BDZ Cargo is in a sandwich between private's 60 0819 and 44 072 of TBD Tovarni prevozi.
One of the latest additions to the private freight operators in Bulgaria, TBD TP is in charge of the coal freight trains for the Bobov Dol power plant at Golemo Selo. On this photo light engine 60 1128 (an ex-CFR diesel loco) is seen running light towards Dupnitsa with the power plant in the background.
