Nathan Hale taught in this one-room school house in 1773/74. He was executed by the British for being a spy during the Revolutionary War. Before being hanged, he said the words I put in this photo's title. He was just 21 at the time of his death. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Hale

Believe in dreams when you`re alone,

When nothing makes your soul smile,

If you don`t want to speak by phone

And read by own written file.

Believe in dreams when tears are falling down,

When people hate you for unusual thought.

Believe in dreams if you`re a funny clown,

Believe like all philosophers were taught.

Believe in dreams and sun will shine so bright,

You`ll get miracles from a friendly hand.

Believe in dreams, you shouldn`t go and fight,

You`ll go with me on this way till the end.

Believe my friend in clumsy, noisy mind,

In each love story you have got inside.

Believe in me and stand in angel`s side,

You`ll see my light is wonderful and bright.

Beware: Axis-HUD in use!

From my youth, at a very young age, I had been taught that innovation and discovery were the cornerstones to pave the path to progression. When I came of age, everyone seemed to have a different idea. Frustration lines me as I'm met with friction at every turn. Punishments flow more freely than knowledge in sanctuaries of education, disparaging any soul who would find themselves seeking to learn off the beaten path. Curiosity is fettered and the currents of change are barred. I've tried ceaseless times to delve into the extensive libraries, scrolls and ancient texts to no avail. Those who would find themselves currying favour will even join in with mockery to anyone who would stand against the given curriculum. What are the archives there for, if not for use? "You see with your eyes, not your hands," they chide, upon getting escorted out.

I think for once, I may humour that notion.

[Verse 1]

*Drumknott

I don't need much with you, my love

'Cause the champagne drains and the airplane fame turns into rust

I don't need much with you, my love

Cause the Hollywood Hills won't ever make me feel as good as us

You got me singin'

[Chrous]

We don't need no bankroll to make us feel alive

We don't need no Benzo, to feel like we can ride

Richer than Solomon with you by my side

We'll be kings and queens in our own mind

We don't need no jet plane to feel like we can fly

We don't need no gold chain just to watch it shine

24 karat lives, we don't got the time

We'll be kings and queens in our own mind

[Verse 2]

I got everything I'll ever need

You can cash every check try to buy a respect that's incomplete

I got everything I'll ever need

Don't gotta make it to the top yeah to know what I got

With you and me

You got me singin'

You taught me precious secrets of the truth, withholding nothing.

You came out in front and I was hiding.

But now I'm so much better, so if my words don't come together,

listen to the melody, cause my love's in there hiding...

Insegnerai a Volare, ma non voleranno il Tuo Volo (MTC)

«In your lifetime you will have many reasons to be happy. One of them is called water, another is called wind, another sun, and it always comes as a reward after the rain».

~ Luis Sepulveda, The Story of a Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly

I was taught, when I started birding, that a mixed Warbler flock is not a static thing, but something that moves in a purposive way. Rather than chasing individual birds, one wants as much as possible to position oneself in the path of the flock. Birds will be much more relaxed if they brush by you doing their work than if you interrupt their work and chase them.

That is easier said than done. But the shore of the Ottawa River turned out to be just such a place more times than I had imagined this fall. By the stage in the southbound migration I had the opportunity to be out, it was primarily Yellow-rumpeds, but the odd exception shows up. And the benefits for a photographer standing as Warblers move around you are as good as they are for birders.

Portrait of a Geranium.

“Long experience has taught me that people who do not like geraniums have something morally unsound about them. Sooner or later you will find them out; you will discover that they drink, or steal books, or speak sharply to cats. Never trust a man or a woman who is not passionately devoted to geraniums.”

― Beverley Nichols in 'Merry Hall'

These words from the late Mr John Beverley Nichols are his own and should not be associated with my opinion, the photographer, as I am not a great fan of geraniums except when they are in flower.

For the rest of the year they look decidedly scrappy and I don't particularly like their peppery smell which I have seen described as "green and peppery". Unfortunately, I am unaware of what the colour "green" smells like thus I cannot comment - is its smell better or worse than the colour yellow?

I certainly don't steal books, or speak sharply to cats however, I do enjoy a drink. George Melly wrote in London Review of Books in 1991 that John Beverley Nichols would, unfortunately, drink a great deal when writing, and even secreted a bottle to top up his glass en route to the lavatory. . .just for the record, I have never, ever been guilty of needing a top up on my way to the smallest room in the house. 😊

BY YOUR SIDE - SADE

A MOTHER'S LOVE

In silent fields I feel your hand resting gently within my own

in still waters I see your face reflecting all the love you feel

on solid bridges I feel your strength supporting me

in lichen curled and yellowed by the test of time

I feel your warmth like the sun has kissed my skin

in the fences of the fields I feel no division

I can climb the tallest fence; climb the highest tree

reach up my arms outstretched and touch the heavens

shed tears of joy as golden as the Autumn leaves

The hand that first held mine when I was just a child

was filled with my Mother's love

and though the loss of her will always be so keenly felt

as the cold November wind blows straight through me

and bends me to kneel so gently at my Mother's knee

still I feel her presence and see her face

in everything I do and say

and she is with me now; watching with a mother's grace

and directing me towards the right thing I should do

walking into light from dark shadows

my eyes had grown accustomed to the dark

but now they are all-seeing and I am all-knowing

that no-one can harm me all the while I walk my chosen path

of truth; of goodness and feel the solid ground beneath my feet

no-one can break me all the while

I bend with the wind and not against it

I walk the path that feels best beneath my feet

and I am comfortable within my own skin

and those that seek to harm me

will one day see that what they do is their karma

and with all the goodness my heart can muster

I pray for them and forgive their words that try to cut me down

I stand so tall within the protection of my Mother's eternal love

that bridges all eternity and keeps me safe

within the circle of her ever loving arms.

I think I taught myself a lesson during the processing of this image; that being, not to automatically throw away an image that has "good bones." Whether you like the way this came out or not, it certainly does not look like the original below. This was entirely created in Lightroom with no plug ins, no add ons, and no textures. Rainy day fun for me.

I taught myself to live simply and wisely,

to look at the sky and pray to God,

and to wander long before evening

to tire my superfluous worries.

When the burdocks rustle in the ravine

and the yellow-red rowanberry cluster droops

I compose happy verses

about life's decay, decay and beauty.

I come back. The fluffy cat

licks my palm, purrs so sweetly

and the fire flares bright

on the saw-mill turret by the lake.

Only the cry of a stork landing on the roof

occasionally breaks the silence.

If you knock on my door

I may not even hear.

Anna Akhmatova (1889-1966)

You taught me the courage of stars before you left

How light carries on endlessly, even after death

With shortness of breath

You explained the infinite

And how rare and beautiful it is to even exist

I couldn't help but ask for you to say it all again

I tried to write it down, but I could never find a pen

I'd give anything to hear you say it one more time

That the universe was made just to be seen by my eyes

I'm So Fuckin' Grateful For My Ex !

Thank U, Next !

I know this man

Who is dear to my heart

Suddenly one day

It was torn all apart

This man taught me everything

That I needed to know

But I never really listened

Until he had to go

He gave me love

And touched my life

It's all over now

He no longer has to fight

He tried to teach me

Right for wrong

The day he left

I wasn't that strong

He is gone now

It is hard to believe

This man is my dad

Who I will never see

But I will see him again

This I know

The day will come

When it's time for me to go

So, I'll hold him dear

And close to my heart

Cause the day we meet

I know we'll never be torn apart.

François Bazin was born in Paris on 31 October 1897 and died in Paris in 1956. His parents were engravers and medalists. Early years were spent in Chile where his parents taught at the Santiago art college. The family returned to Paris in 1913 and Bazin enrolled at the Paris École des Beaux-Art. He was mobilized in 1916 and attached to a squadron whose planes were equipped with Hispano Suiza engines. After the war he completed his studies and was runner-up for the Prix de Rome in 1925. Although not a Breton many of his works can be seen in Brittany including "The monument aux bigoudens", the monument at the Pointe de Pen Hir and the "Filles de la mer" statue at Quimper.

Bazin created many mascots for car bonnets ("les bouchons de radiateur") such as "Triomphe" shown here. His "Femme Mangbetu" featured on Citroën's car competing in the "Croisière Noire" in 1924. He often worked with Louis Lejeune Ltd.. His car mascots include "Cigogne" for the Hispano Suiza, "Tête de Femme Mangbetu" for Citroën, "Triomphe" for the Isotta Fraschini, "Tête d'éléphant" for the Latil, "Centaure" for the Unic and "Licorne" for the Licorne. Poor little rose, beaten by the rain

In the wind in the gale, thunder and the hail

Sometimes I feel like I'm going insane

Without the numbness or the pain so intense to feel

Especially now it added up through the years

And I, I taught myself how to grow

Without any love and there was poison in the rain

I taught myself how to grow

Now I'm crooked on the outside, and the inside's broke

Most of the time I got nothing to say

When I do it's nothing and nobody's there to listen anyway

I know I'm probably better off this way

I just listen to the voices on the TV 'til I'm tired

My eyes grow heavy and I fade away
