Fun facts:
1) Tarot cards were invented in the 1400s as playing cards. They only started to be used in divination in the late 1700s.
2) These days, people think crossing the fortune teller's palm with silver means paying the fortune teller. Originally, though, it might have meant making the sign of the cross with a silver object as a way of warding off evil or assuring good fortune. (In some countries, it's a tradition to touch babies' palms with silver to bring them good luck -- called hanselling.)
3) There hasn't been any silver in Canadian dimes for about 50 years, so the coins in the photo are only good for crossing someone's palm with nickel-plated steel. :)
I sacrificed one of my lovely old sheets of music for this. For some reason I think it needed that extra little splash of red to tie together the coral and rubies.

Fortune-telling is defined as the practice of predicting the future, usually of an individual, through mystical or supernatural means. Since ancient times man has striven to search out the unknown. His pursuit of knowledge of the future has led to the creation of many different methods of fortune telling such as astrology, tarot card readings, numerology, crystallomancy, palmistry and psychic readings to name a few.
Just to clarify, this is definitely a belief ... it just doesn't happen to be mine! This is an image of a miniature set of tarot cards that I found in Rachel's book shelf. That kid has a very eclectic reading selection!
I'm also adding this to a new group that I was invited to join: "Soundtrack Monday." I thought this song was perfect for this image. Are you surprised that he "discovered the fortune teller told him lies?" Yeah! Me neither!

Based off the original Pamela Smith card
depicted as a young person in a white suit, with a crown on their head, seated on a throne and holding a cup in their right hand and a sceptre in their left. Here is a person who is "all heart", warm-hearted and kind. The image has some reference to the sea which is pictured surrounding the throne, and a stylized dolphin and ship are depicted in the background to its side.
The King of Cups believes in using diplomacy rather than force, but can be tiresomely devious if you cross them, as they usually are big on emotionality. The King of Cups almost always represents a good mentor for a querent who is actively involved in the creative arts.
