This evening my wife was practicing her tap routine for her upcoming dance recital and I thought it might be an interesting time to photograph some of her moves.

My little tap dancer's jump tap!
A moment in time, forever captured!
(Note: The ISO 400 used here was purely accidental. I failed to check and recalibrate my ISO settings before I began shooting this and the rest! 200 would have done better... But, in a way it did work, giving off some grainy feel to the shots... I'm getting old!)...
(***This is so cool! Cara's 2nd Explore shot! And my 4th consecutive! And 1st for the month of August!***).

We asked her what she likes better...ballet or tap. Surprisingly she said tap. When we asked her why she liked tap better, her only reason was, "because the shoes are slippery." Gotta love the way kids think. :D haha Well, despite what she says, I think she enjoys ballet more.
Jessie's new passion is ballet and tap dancing. I'm proud to see her really get into something. And of course I'm happy because this lends itself to all sorts of photograph opportunities.
Her class is going to be putting on a performance at the local theather in a few months. We might have her participate. We have to custom order a special dress for that. Not sure how much that will cost, but if she's really into, I say what the heck. I'd be thrilled to see her perform on stage. :)
This is tap class....not ballet. :)
I'm no tap dancing expert, but I don't believe this is a tap move. :D haha
The ballet instructor had the kids march across the dance floor kicking their toes to the sky while repeating..."front to back. kick!" My Jessie did it the best. :) Look at the girl in front of her checking out her moves. :D lol
This is a photo of my guilty pleasure - my sparkly tap shoes, just look at those lovely teletone taps, they make the most satisfying noise when you dance. But it's not the tap shoes themselves that are my guilty pleasure; this occurs when i wear them, dressed as Columbia to attend the Rocky Horror Show!
I learned to tap dance about two years ago.
I found my tap shoes back the other day and tried it.
I forgot a ton.
Scavenger Hunt 101 - My tap shoes! These are 15 years old and are still shuffle-ball-changing their money's worth.
Looks like they need a few more years of practice.
This isn't perfectly composed or exposed but I felt it was still a fun shot to post. I would have loved to go on stage to photograph the little girls but I'd risk getting tomatoes thrown at me by other parents. There were barriers on the sides so this was the best angle I could get.

"The Baldwin is a beautiful and unique setting in the heart of downtown Royal Oak. The gorgeous vaudeville theater was built in 1922 (older than the Fox, 1928 and the Filmore, 1925) and boasts a beautiful lobby and mezzanine area. The auditorium seats up to 372 guests" - events.detnews.com/royal-oak

"Recognized as one of metro Detroit’s best community theaters, Stagecrafters presents 10 productions each season on two stages at the beautiful Baldwin Theatre. Shows range from popular musicals to favorite comedies/dramas, from contemporary adult content to youth theatre" - visitdetroit.com
I love this photo with it's kind of old fashioned, high contrast, grainy look. The girls in their tiny black patten Mary Janes were so cute! Gwyneth is the second heel from the front.

Not all things that are "collectible" are "valuable" to everyone!! The things on this set of shelves are all mine and some might have monetary value but most do not. Items like the diecast car autographed by Dale Earnhardt, Jr, the set of four spy novels written and autographed by Col. Oliver North, or maybe even the many old coins or vintage books from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. However, all the things in this picture are collectible to me for many other reasons...the pillow with the bear on it in the middle was hand made by my grandmother and, on that same shelf is my sons first pair of cleats and my daughters first pair of tap shoes. Down on the bottom is one of my first Tonka trucks with a busted windshield (my doing I'm sure!) and a 'rain stick' that I brought back from Brazil in 2002 just one shelf up. Also seen here are my high school diploma and my college diploma...very important milestones in my life!! Sea shells from family vacations, baseballs autographed by t-ball players that I coached, gifts from my wife and children, photographs, rocks, and other family vacation mementos. There's even a photo of my and my kids that was a Father's Day gift in 2005. All things that I would not trade for anything in the world!! (Oh yeah, the old books and coins that I mentioned earlier were given to me by my grandfather who was an antique dealer for as long as I can remember.) So, remember that throughout life there will be people and places that are special and remembering these however you can holds more value than any amount of money ever could!!
Three bracketed photos were taken and combined with Photomatix to create this HDR image. Additional adjustments were made in Photoshop.

She said "Daddy, these make my feet sound like tap shoes, I like them!"
Today, I will see my little girl perform the duties of the Flower Girl for a friend's wedding. She is a bit nervous and will probably make some memorable noises with these shoes on the wooden floor and pews while the ceremony is in progress! I can't wait!
The wedding will be taking place at the Hermitage Church in the Nashville area. This church was built in 1826 by Andrew Jackson (actually his slaves built it) and is on the land that has been preserved as a National Park. What a memorable place for a wedding - it will be hot though as there is no air conditioning and the temps are expected to be 86F!
My friend Avi at a dance studio with multiple movable mirrors. Special thanks to Avi for helping me with this shot and letting me practice some new photo techniques.
