Fresh Berry Tapioca
2 c water
1/3 c quick-cooking tapioca
1/2 c sugar
1/4 t salt
1 1/2 to 2 c crushed, sweetened berries
1 t lemon juice
Place water in top of double boiler and bring to a boil over direct heat.
Combine tapioca, sugar, and salt; add gradually to water and bring to a brisk boil, stirring constantly.
Place immediately over rapidly boiling water and cook 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cool - mixture clears and thickens as it cools.
When slightly cool, fold in berries and lemon juice.
Chill.
Serve in sherbet glasses. Garnish with whipped cream and a few whole berries.
Serves 6.

Haven't got any info about this farm. When it was built, who has lived here or when it was abandoned, I have no clue. But a very nice location to do it was!!
Visited this baby in January 2011.
While I was looking for the gluten free bread recipe, I found Brazilian tapioca cheese puff recipe, which is gluten free as well, so I tried it today. Unfortunately I didn't have enough tapioca flour left, so I used half arrowroot flour, which is starch too. It worked out well. Thank goodness I read about their interesting texture - gummy in a way, so I wasn't surprised. They taste delicious.

Centro das Tapioqueiras
As tapioqueiras da Paupina são conhecidas na cidade há cerca de setenta anos. Elas serviam as tradicionais tapiocas – de massa grossa –, acompanhadas de cafezinho, em suas próprias casas. Quando foram concluÃdas as obras de alargamento da Avenida Washington Soares, os carros deixaram de passar por ali e o movimento caiu. As mulheres, então, resolveram se unir e fundaram a Associação das Tapioqueiras da Paupina. Conseguiram do governo do estado um terreno e, hoje, estão instaladas em 22 boxes. Leonice Rodrigues, a presidente, conta que, logo depois da mudança, as tapioqueiras fizeram cursos para aprender novos recheios. Atualmente, elas servem a vedete da culinária regional em cerca de setenta versões. A tapioca mais pedida é a de carne-de-sol, mas há opções com bacalhau, camarão, caranguejo, frango desfiado e uma série de outros ingredientes. Cada uma custa entre R$ 1,00 e R$ 5,00. Na alta temporada, o ambiente ao ar livre ganha shows de forró pé-de-serra nos fins de tarde. O estabelecimento foi eleito como o que serve a melhor tapioca da cidade pelo júri de VEJA Fortaleza.

Tapioca-Taro Soup
Notes: Served at the end of every meal at Lucky Wok, this is a thin, slightly creamy soup with tiny tapioca pearls and little nubs of soft taro root. Like most good Chinese "desserts," this is only lightly sweetened.
