Been bored recently, so I've been taking some random pictures. This one is of a power supply from an HP LTO Tape Drive.

Happy Birthday Dad!

He would have been 81 today.

This photo was taken when he was the head of the "computer" department at Fort Riley Kansas. They called it Management Information Systems Office. I guess they kept track of all the soldiers or something, I didn't really know, but they had a lot of neat machines that I got to go see on the weekends. They had one that would seperate the paper from the carbon paper that I really liked.

So this building was full of these huge tape drives and computers that are no where near as powerful as any of the computers you can buy nowadays.

He had that job for 30+ years until he retired. He would have kept doing it but he had to retire for health reasons.

Take a guess ? circa 2000.

The old tapedrive for the development machine is on top of the EDI rack, A bit uncomfortable.

Univac was the first computer designed for commercial use and 46 were built and installed in the 1950s. Designed by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly and the name UNIVAC was shortened from Universal Automatic Computer. 1959 photo.
