We are starting to get in the festive spirit here.

Extreme macro (4x) shot of a tansy beetle the size of this beetle was roughly 1cm in length. This photo was a hand-held focus stack of 6 shots. Undisclosed location in Royston.

... Tansy's teeth ?!?

Hildegard has once again squeezed through the fence to munch tansy on an adjacent farm. The sign behind her urges against the use of rat poison, which also poisons the owls and hawks that eat them. We have many of those in the area.

Tansy flower, with quest

Chrysolina graminis. This is a very rare beetle in Britain, with the national stronghold being on the river Ouse in York where I photographed this one. I found a colony on several clumps of Tansy plant Tanacetum vulgare. The beetle spends its whole life around the plant, as both the adults and larvae feed on the plant and hibernate in the soil under the plant. This photo shows the coppery sheen as well as the metallic green colouration.

A member of the aster family. Also known as bitter buttons, cow bitter or golden buttons. Thanks to Eleanor for correcting my mistake.

Common red soldier beetle-Rhagonycha fulva visiting Common Tansy- Tanacetum vulgare.

Tansy and the other fauns from the woods have been knitting mittens all through the long summer evenings.

So as soon as I saw the mini skein I knew who needed it.

Hehehehehee.....I love it when my hobby worlds touch and meet.

Tansy Beetle (Chrysolina graminis), on Water Mint (Mentha aquatica). Woodwalton Fen NNR, Ramsey Heights, Cambridgeshire. July 8, 2021.

One of five recorded on Thursday, one more than the previous week, though with numbers this low I'm not sure that comparisons are all that meaningful. More encouraging perhaps is that two of the five, including this one, came from one of the transects that was badly flooded over the winter and which, until Thursday, hadn't yielded any beetles this year.

A small patch of invasive Tansy along the river bank. Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada. 15 August 2022

Although pretty, this plant is an invasive species. McKay Creek Trail, Abbotsford, B.C.

Finally spotted this rare beetle :)

Rainfarn - Rejnfan, Bognæs, Gevninge, Denmark.

One of the few places that this beautiful beetle can be found in the UK is along the River Ouse at York. Known locally as the Jewel of York.

We found this purple field recently on a trip to Northumberland, an unusual but very beautiful sight.

This is the first time I have had both dolls together.....for some reason I didn't think they would look good together!

This photo was taken with Chris's camera.....I love that camera!

Tansy just loves riding her bike round and round the garden. ((^_^))

...enjoy the first day of SPRING !

... from Tansy. So sweet & ALWAYS smiling. Today she passed away peacefully with my husband singing her favourite song ( Cape Cod Bay ) to her as I stroked her head. Just as he sang the last word her eyes fully closed. I tried to make this memorial but I'm not technologically advanced. For those who don't know, the play on words comes from a Christmas carol that says "Sleep in Heavenly Peace". The bottom says, " March 2007 - August 2021". She is wearing one of her many dress up costumes. This was one from a Halloween past. She was an angel her whole life!

... a birthday kiss ! Her birthday is normally three weeks after Anise's, but this year is a Leap Year so we have to wait an extra day. Therefore, we're celebrating one day early because I don't have to work today.

The tansy beetle (Chrysolina graminis): a large, iridescent green leaf beetle, with a coppery sheen, was once widespread in Britain, but it is currently critically endangered, not just in the UK but across its worldwide range. It is now a conservation priority species in England.

Soon it'll be too cold - less than 10 or 11C. - for Bees to go foraging but the Autumn Sun was warm today though the wind blew chilly. So Bees were out to collect pollen from the few flowers still around, such as some Mulleins and also this bright Tansy.
