We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

I have an awful confession to make. About a month ago, I watched Fast and Furious for the first time. A month ago. First time. My film record in general is awful. However, after watching it, I decided to make a sort of 90's japanese car of my own, and ended up making this. In all honesty, I think I may have made it a tad too short, and it almost looks like a muscle car. Other than that, I'm happy with it, and I managed some decent details here and there, including a hideously over engineered and flimsy engine.
Woah, hold up Sam. The heck did "Tanio" come from? Tanio is a make believe car company founded by my cousin and good mate Wormy McWorm. If I remember correctly, Tanio is a literal translation of "Titanium" in Italian. So a Italian name, British founder and Japanese car. As you do.
This first started about 2 years ago, and he said I could build some cars with him. I did a couple waayyy in my early days of MOCpages, and then stopped as I had my own "Prowler" series. He carried on with various cool little 4-wides, but due to massive life a complications and now that part of school, he's pretty inactive now, and the Tanio name is near enough dead.
Thus, upon building this (how posh) I knew it wouldn't really fit the Prowler name - I want to keep that Large scale. So I asked if I should dig up the Tanio name, and he said yes. So here it is.
The Kuma is an 90's Japanese inspired 2 door coupe, crammed full of modern technology. To bring back the glory days, but with a modern twist. Thanks to my supreme creativity, Kuma is actually a Japanese word. For bear. ¯\_( .-. )_/¯ C1 is just Chassis number 1 - it needs one of those codename things, like "S14" or "R34".

Former French actress Cathia Caro (1943) was a young, delicate beauty. At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, she starred in French and especially Italian films, opposite such stars as Totò, Peppino De Filippo and Aldo Fabrizi.
Cathia Caro was born in Rouen, France, in 1943. Caro first appeared on the big screen in the title role of the film Isabelle a peur des homes/Isabelle Is Afraid of Men (Jean Gourguet, 1957). At the time she was only 14 years old. She then played the daughter of Arletty and girlfriend of Jean-Paul Belmondo in the comedy Un drôle de dimanche/What a Sunday (Marc Allégret, 1958). Mario Gauci at IMDb: “A pleasant enough effort, then, if strictly minor (and, ultimately, pretty forgettable) fare.” In the following years she was particularly active in Italy. She played in well known films such as the comedy Arrangiatevi!/You're on Your Own (Mauro Bolognini, 1959) with Peppino De Filippo, Estate violent/Violent Summer (Valerio Zurlini, 1959) with Eleonora Rossi Drago, and especially the entertaining satire Tartassati/The Over-taxed (Steno, 1959) with Totò and Aldo Fabrizi.
In 1959 Cathia Caro made headlines when she attempted suicide. She had a troubled relationship with the boxer Tiberio Mitri. At the beginning of the 1960s, her career had a boost with the peplum I giganti della Tessaglia/The Giants of Thessaly (Riccardo Freda, 1960). Mario Gauci at IMDb: “Riccardo Freda's involvement here ensures that this is one of the better peplums, even if the result is rather static and hokey overall.” That year she also co-starred with Peppino De Filippo and Ugo Tognazzi in Genitori in blue-jeans (Camillo Mastrocinque, 1960). In the following year she made her final film, the mediocre peplum Il trionfo di Maciste/Triumph of Maciste (Tanio Boccia, 1961) with bodybuilder Kirk Morris. She was only 18 when she retired from the film industry.

From the early 1950s she acted in many films, both modern and historical dramas such as La lunga notte del '43 (Valerio Zurlini, 1960) with Enrico Maria Salerno, I compagni/The Organizer (Mario Monicelli, 1963) with Marcello Mastroianni, and Il terrorista/ The Terrorist (Gianfranco de Bosio, 1963) wth Gian Maria Volonté, as well as peplum films including Maciste l'uomo più forte del mondo/ Mole Men Against the Son of Hercules (Antonio Leonviola, 1961) with Mark Forest, Maciste nella terra dei ciclopi/ Atlas in the Land of the Cyclops (Leonviola, 1961) with Gordon Mitchell, Ulisse contro Ercole/ Ulysses Against the Son of Hercules (Marco Caiano, 1961) with Georges Marchal, Ponzio Pilate/ Pontius Pilate (Renato Callegari, 1962) with Jean Marais, Giulio Cesare, il conquistatore delle Galli/ Caesar the Conqueror (Tanio Boccia, 1962) with Cameron Mitchell, and comedies such as La Celestina P... R... (Carlo Lizzani, 1965). In 1965, she played in the film Von Ryan's Express (dir. Mark Robson) with, among others, Frank Sinatra. Initially she used her own name Raffaella Peloni but by the early sixties she started to use Carrà as her last name.
At the 1969-1970 TV season, Carrà was the first television personality to show her belly button on camera, when performing her debut song Ma che musica maestro. This was met with heavy criticism from the Vatican and from Catholic churches in the countries that watched her show, Canzonissima. Ma che musica maestro was followed by other hit songs like Chissà se va, and Tuca Tuca. Internationally Raffaella Carrà is best known for the song A far l'amore comincia tu (1976). It became Carrà's most popular and best sold single. The song was covered in several European countries while she herself sang it in various languages (Do It Do it Again in English for instance). Described as the queen of Italian television, Carrà was present on television with her own shows from the late 1960s until her death. During her long career she became an icon of Italian music and television, finding great acclaim abroad as well, especially in Spain. Carrà is said to have been the driving force behind Italy's return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, in which year she also passed on Italy's points. Over the course of her career, as she herself stated in an interview in the weekly TV Sorrisi e Canzoni, she has sold over 60 million records and, during an episode of Domenica In hosted by Pippo Baudo in which she was a guest, she claimed to own 22 records including platinum and gold. In autumn 2020, the British newspaper The Guardian crowned Raffaella Carrà as Europe's sex symbol, calling her "the cultural icon who taught Europe the joys of sex".
Raffaella Carrà died in Rome on the afternoon of 5 July 2021, aged 78, after an illness.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Belgian actress Dominique Wilms (1930) was the glamorous and sexy femme fatale of many French action films of the 1950s and 1960s, often opposite Eddie Constantine. Many of these ‘Euro Noirs’ are B-films with a strong cult and trash factor.
Dominique Wilms was born Claudine Maria Célina Wilmes in Montignies-sur-Sambre, Belgium, in 1930. Wilms studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and subsequently, she became a model. Director Edmond T. Gréville discovered her and recommended her to his younger colleague Bernard Borderie for the femme fatale role in the action film La môme vert de gris/Poison Ivy (Bernard Borderie, 1953), based on a novel by Peter Cheney. It became a sensational success and her breakthrough. La môme vert de gris would be the first of a popular series of French action films starring Eddie Constantine as Lemmy Caution, the two-fisted FBI agent created by novelist Peter Cheney. Lemmy Caution can be seen as the precursor of James Bond. At IMDb, reviewer Kuciak writes: “The book was written in 1937, this movie made in 1953, the birth of James Bond in Casino Royale. Like Bond, he flirts with the secretary before going to see his boss, he drinks whiskey, were as Bond drinks Martinis. He does not bed women, but he finds any way he can kiss a woman. Even the ending, where he is with a woman, will remind one of James Bond Films, as they are in no hurry to meet up with the police. What was more striking was that this film almost appeared to be a rehearsal for Thunderball.” Eddie Constantine and Wilms were reunited in the third Lemmy Caution adventure, Les Femmes s'en balancent/Dames Don’t Care (Bernard Borderie, 1954). In this outing, Lemmy is on the trail of a counterfeiting gang and somehow or other, the mission requires him to dally with such beauties as Wilms and Nadia Gray, who may or may not be mixed up in a blackmail scheme. Dominique Wilms became the French equivalent of Veronica Lake, the blonde star of the American Film Noir. She would play the ruthless vamp and calculating luxury bitch in Euro Noirs again and again.
A big hit on the European film festival circuit was the thriller Les Assassins Du Dimanche/Every Second Counts (Alex Joffe, 1957). A garage mechanic (Jean-Marc Thibault) returns a car to its owner on a Sunday morning, but unbeknownst to him the steering mechanism has not been properly tightened. When the mechanic realises that the car is a potential death trap, he desperately tries to contact the owner. Wilms appeared again opposite Constantine in Le Grand Bluff/The Big Bluff (Patrice Dally, 1957). In La rivière des 3 jonques/The River of Three Junks (André Pergament, 1957), Jean Gaven was her leading man. The two co-stars would marry later that same year. The next year they starred together again in Les aventuriers du Mékong/Adventures in Indochina (Jean Bastia, 1958). Suggested by author Françoise Sagan, Otto Preminger chose Wilms for the part of Elsa in the film adaptation of Sagan’s bestseller Bonjour Tristesse (Otto Preminger, 1957), but she refused because she had to stay for six months in the USA to perfect her English. The role was ultimately played by Mylène Demongeot. Thus Wilms continued to appear in French action films and comedies. In the 1960s, when the roles in French detective films dried up, she appeared also in German and Italian films. Again opposite Eddie Constantine, she starred in the German-French production Bomben auf Monte Carlo/Bombs on Monte Carlo (Georg Jacoby, 1960). Wilms played a showgirl who marries a farmer (Antonio Cifariello) in the Argentinian-Italian western Questo Amore Ai Confini Del Mondo/This Love at the End of the World (Giuseppe Maria Scotese, 1960). In 1963 she was Queen Astrid in the Peplum (epic Italian costume drama) Giulio Cesare, il conquistatore delle Gallie/Caesar the Conqueror (Amerigo Anton, Tanio Boccia, 1963) with Rik Battaglia and Cameron Mitchell as Julius Caesar. In the French-Italian spy film Banco à Bangkok (pour OSS 117)/Shadow of Evil (André Hunebelle, 1964) she co-starred with Kerwin Matthews and Pier Angeli. She also played in television films and series. Finally, she left the cinema and devoted herself to her first love: painting. She studied art history at the Ecole du Louvre for four years. Another hobby is the restoration of art objects. Her husband, Jean Gaven passed away in 2014.

Italian film actor Rik Battaglia (1927-2015) made nearly 100 film appearances between 1954 and 1999. He played the bad guy in dozens of Peplums, Eurowesterns, and war films. In Germany, he became notorious as ‘The Man Who Shot Winnetou.'
Rik Battaglia was born as Caterino Bertaglia in Corbola, Italy, in 1927 (IMDb) or 1930 (Wikipedia). Battaglia never met his father and has seen his mother only rarely. He was raised by his grandmother. At 17, he was working as a sailor on a freighter between Corfu and the Black Sea. Years later, he was discovered by director Mario Soldati when he worked as a bartender in a Milanese restaurant. Producer Carlo Ponti hired him on the spot. In his first film, La donna del fiume / The River Girl (Mario Soldati, 1954), he played a cigarette smuggler who has a tempestuous love affair with a young Sophia Loren (Ponti’s wife) in hot pants. Hal Erickson at AllMovie: "The first half of the film plays for laughs, while the second half evolves into a lachrymose soap opera. Through it all, Sophia Loren looks like a million lire - and she even gets to sing and dance!" The film was an obvious attempt to recapture the success of Riso Amaro / Bitter Rice (Giuseppe De Santis, 1949) with Silvana Mangano. After the success of the film, Battaglia attended a drama school for two years. Another attempt to cash in on Riso Amaro was La risaia / The Rice Girl (Raffaello Matarazzo, 1956), in which Battaglia appeared in the same kind of role opposite another sexy beauty, Elsa Martinelli. He played supporting parts in the Peplums (Sandal and sword epics) La Gerusalemme liberata / The Mighty Crusaders (Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, 1958) with Francisco Rabal and Sylva Koscina, Annibale /Hannibal (Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, Edgar G. Ulmer, 1959) starring Victor Mature, and Giulio Cesare, il conquistatore delle Gallie / Caesar the Conqueror (Tanio Boccia, 1962). In Germany, he appeared as a slave merchant in the Liane-sequel Liane, die weiße Sklavin / Jungle Girl and the Slaver (Hermann Leitner, 1957) with Marion Michael, and he was seen in the Hollywood adventure Raw Wind in Eden (Richard Wilson, 1958) with Esther Williams and Jeff Chandler.
Rik Battaglia made one of his best films with La giornata balorda / A Crazy Day (Mauro Bolognini, 1961) opposite Jean Sorel and Lea Massari. Pier Paolo Pasolini co-wrote the screenplay for this black-and-white film about the lower class of Rome, based on a novel by Alberto Moravia. One of his biggest flops was the biblical epic Sodom and Gomorrah (Robert Aldrich, 1962) with Stewart Granger and Pier Angeli. He appeared in several obscure Peplums and such adventure films as Sandokan, la tigre di Mompracem / Sandokan the Great (Umberto Lenzi, 1963) with bodybuilder Steve Reeves. Battaglia moved to Germany where he played in the Karl May Westerns Old Shatterhand (Hugo Fregonese, 1964), Der Schut / The Shoot (Robert Siodmak, 1964), Der Schatz der Azteken / The Treasure of the Aztecs (Robert Siodmak, 1965), Die Pyramide des Sonnengottes/Pyramid of the Sun God (Robert Siodmak, 1965), Winnetou - 3. Teil/Winnetou: The Last Shot (Harald Reinl, 1965) and Winnetou und Shatterhand im Tal der Toten / Winnetou and Shatterhand in the Valley of Death (Harald Reinl, 1968), all starring Lex Barker; Das Vermächtnis des Inka/Legacy of the Incas (Georg Marischka, 1965) with Guy Madison, and Winnetou und sein Freund Old Firehand / Thunder at the Border (Alfred Vohrer, 1966), with Pierre Brice. He was also the co-star of Freddy Quinn in the Schlager Western Freddy und das Lied der Prärie / In the Wild West (Sobey Martin, 1964). Battaglia had a German fan base in those years. That changed abruptly when he became Winnetou’s murderer in Winnetou - 3. Teil/ Winnetou: The Last Shot (Harald Reinl, 1965). Spaghettiwestern.net: " Previous to the film's release, production company Rialto hinted that Winnetou would be killed in the movie, which led to spontaneous protests organised by the children's magazines. Battaglia was booed at the premiere and later confessed that people continued complaining about his vile act for years, even though several films (all presented as prequels) had been made with Brice as Winnetou in the meantime. When (director Harald) Reinl asked him again for a Winnetou movie, he allegedly answered: Only if I don't have to kill the hero!".
Rik Battaglia returned to Italy to play in Spaghetti Westerns like Spara, Gringo, spara / Shoot, Gringo... Shoot! (Bruno Corbucci, 1968) and Black Jack (Gianfranco Baldanello, 1968). The best of these was Sergio Leone's epic Giù la testa / Duck, You Sucker!/A Fistful of Dynamite (1971), which failed to gain any substantial recognition from the critics at the time of its premiere, especially compared to the maestro's other films. Leone only won a David di Donatello for Best Director, but the film has received a more favourable reception since then. Keith Phibbs at AllMovie: "A fantastic opening pitting Rod Steiger's earthy bandito against a stagecoach filled with rich bigots begins the film on a fantastic note that Leone has difficulty sustaining. But what the film loses in momentum, it gains in complexity. Pairing Steiger's character with James Coburn's nearly disillusioned Irish revolutionary expands the scope of the film in ways other than the geographical. While other political spaghetti Westerns simply pitted the haves against the have-nots, Duck, You Sucker! (named after a 'popular' American catchphrase known only to Leone), attempts to portray the full scope of revolution. That the director includes chilling scenes of wholesale massacre on the part of the ruling class would seem to betray his sympathies, but he also portrays the impact of revolutionary activity on those who rebel. (...) Though it includes too many awkwardly paced passages to qualify as anyone's favourite Leone film, the film's disastrous financial performance in America granted it an undeserved obscurity. The strange (even by his own standards) score by Ennio Morricone alone makes it worth seeking out." Battaglia then featured as Captain Smollett in Treasure Island (John Hough, 1972), one of the many film versions of the classic adventure by Robert Louis Stevenson, with Orson Welles as Long John Silver. In 1974, he appeared in the Agatha Christie adaptation Ein Unbekannter rechnet ab / Ten Little Indians (Peter Collinson, 1974), which also starred Richard Attenborough and Gert Frobe. He also appeared in the Sergio Leone (co-)produced western Un genio, due compari, un pollo/The Genius (Damiano Damiani, 1975) starring Terence Hill. He mixed roles in such Sexploitation films as Suor Emanuelle/Sister Emanuelle (Giuseppe Vari, 1977) with Laura Gemser with parts in mafia-dramas like Il prefetto di ferro / The Iron Prefect (Pasquale Squitteri, 1977) starring Giuliano Gemma and Claudia Cardinale, and an occasional Spaghetti Western like Mannaja / A Man Called Blade (Sergio Martino, 1977) with John Steiner. Alternate names he used for his films were Rick Austin, Riccardo Battaglia, and Rick Battaglia. His last feature film was Buck ai confini del cielo/Buck at the Edge of Heaven (Tonino Ricci, 1991) with John Savage. In 1995, Rik Battaglia was awarded the Scharlih, the oldest award associated with Karl May. He retired in 1999. On 27 March 2015, Battaglia died of heart failure at his home in Corbola in the province of Rovigo, Italy. He was 88.

We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Belgian actress Dominique Wilms (1930) was the glamorous and sexy femme fatale of many French action films of the 1950s and 1960s, often opposite Eddie Constantine. Many of these ‘Euro Noirs’ are B-films with a strong cult and trash factor.
Dominique Wilms was born Claudine Maria Célina Wilmes in Montignies-sur-Sambre, Belgium, in 1930. Wilms studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and subsequently, she became a model. Director Edmond T. Gréville discovered her and recommended her to his younger colleague Bernard Borderie for the femme fatale role in the action film La môme vert de gris/Poison Ivy (Bernard Borderie, 1953), based on a novel by Peter Cheney. It became a sensational success and her breakthrough. La môme vert de gris would be the first of a popular series of French action films starring Eddie Constantine as Lemmy Caution, the two-fisted FBI agent created by novelist Peter Cheney. Lemmy Caution can be seen as the precursor of James Bond. At IMDb, reviewer Kuciak writes: “The book was written in 1937, this movie made in 1953, the birth of James Bond in Casino Royale. Like Bond, he flirts with the secretary before going to see his boss, he drinks whiskey, were as Bond drinks Martinis. He does not bed women, but he finds any way he can kiss a woman. Even the ending, where he is with a woman, will remind one of James Bond Films, as they are in no hurry to meet up with the police. What was more striking was that this film almost appeared to be a rehearsal for Thunderball.” Eddie Constantine and Wilms were reunited in the third Lemmy Caution adventure, Les Femmes s'en balancent/Dames Don’t Care (Bernard Borderie, 1954). In this outing, Lemmy is on the trail of a counterfeiting gang and somehow or other, the mission requires him to dally with such beauties as Wilms and Nadia Gray, who may or may not be mixed up in a blackmail scheme. Dominique Wilms became the French equivalent of Veronica Lake, the blonde star of the American Film Noir. She would play the ruthless vamp and calculating luxury bitch in Euro Noirs again and again.
A big hit on the European film festival circuit was the thriller Les Assassins Du Dimanche/Every Second Counts (Alex Joffe, 1957). A garage mechanic (Jean-Marc Thibault) returns a car to its owner on a Sunday morning, but unbeknownst to him the steering mechanism has not been properly tightened. When the mechanic realises that the car is a potential death trap, he desperately tries to contact the owner. Wilms appeared again opposite Constantine in Le Grand Bluff/The Big Bluff (Patrice Dally, 1957). In La rivière des 3 jonques/The River of Three Junks (André Pergament, 1957), Jean Gaven was her leading man. The two co-stars would marry later that same year. The next year they starred together again in Les aventuriers du Mékong/Adventures in Indochina (Jean Bastia, 1958). Suggested by author Françoise Sagan, Otto Preminger chose Wilms for the part of Elsa in the film adaptation of Sagan’s bestseller Bonjour Tristesse (Otto Preminger, 1957), but she refused because she had to stay for six months in the USA to perfect her English. The role was ultimately played by Mylène Demongeot. Thus Wilms continued to appear in French action films and comedies. In the 1960s, when the roles in French detective films dried up, she appeared also in German and Italian films. Again opposite Eddie Constantine, she starred in the German-French production Bomben auf Monte Carlo/Bombs on Monte Carlo (Georg Jacoby, 1960). Wilms played a showgirl who marries a farmer (Antonio Cifariello) in the Argentinian-Italian western Questo Amore Ai Confini Del Mondo/This Love at the End of the World (Giuseppe Maria Scotese, 1960). In 1963 she was Queen Astrid in the Peplum (epic Italian costume drama) Giulio Cesare, il conquistatore delle Gallie/Caesar the Conqueror (Amerigo Anton, Tanio Boccia, 1963) with Rik Battaglia and Cameron Mitchell as Julius Caesar. In the French-Italian spy film Banco à Bangkok (pour OSS 117)/Shadow of Evil (André Hunebelle, 1964) she co-starred with Kerwin Matthews and Pier Angeli. She also played in television films and series. Finally, she left the cinema and devoted herself to her first love: painting. She studied art history at the Ecole du Louvre for four years. Another hobby is the restoration of art objects. Her husband, Jean Gaven passed away in 2014.

While I found myself somewhat bored of the lands and towns along much of the Cimarron Valley in Kansas (sorry), I fell in love with Cimarron National Grassland.
Cimarron also became one of my favorite words of the West. It comes from the Spanish 'cimarrón,' meaning 'wild.' They nicked it from an Arawakan language known as Tanio - 'simaran,' where it meant the same thing (or fugative).
So really, the word is a Native South American word meaning 'wild,' that the Spanish folded into their own language (and we thus folded it into ours).
In English, we derived our word 'maroon' from Cimarron (via the French, I think).
But there's another interesting connection between cimarron and maroon. In the 1500s, enslaved Africans who escaped their Spanish captors were known as the Cimarron People because they had banded together and formed their own community in the wild (there's a whole Francis Drake thing with this too). As time went on, these communities and this people became known as the Maroons.
The word and its variations have been used for humans, cattle, wilderness areas (some linguists believe that 'cimarron' is derived from the Old Spanish word for 'thicket' - which was possibly 'Seminole.'
'Seminole' (as in the Seminole Indian tribe from Florida) got their name from the Creek word 'simanó-li,' which was derived from the Spanish 'Cimarron.'
