Volszatff Shmirnoff's lifelong dream was to own a 1964 Minor Mini. (Volsztaff has a low-threshold on aspirational wishes.) Not surprisingly, he couldn't fit into a standard Minor Mini. So, he had one modified to meet his dimensions, proving once again that necessity is indeed the mother of invention. This aftermarket car construct leaks rain at the weld seams.

A small tribute to the Three Wise Men celebration, but also because we believe that our Role-playing characters deserve a Christmas photo that represents them.
On this occasion, with a special mention to Jacksboro Space Station, a SIM dedicated to Mars, because it represents very well the base where they are during our RPG campaign most of the time, which is why we’ll probably choose that place for more RP photos in a future ;)

In 1997 shortline holding company OmniTrax made a splash into Canada by operating some former CN track in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. These were fairly large operations that included the over 600 mile long line to Hudson Bay, and a 100 mile line from near Saskatoon to Prince Albert. Making things interesting was the fact they acquired 20 CN MLW M420Ws and the six BRC C-424s. In addition a former INCO RS11 and three BCR M420 B-units along with some interesting EMD Geeps. They also announced some nice paint schemes along with logos based on local interests.
But like most things OmniTRAX this was too ambitious. Not much happened in the way of paint. And most of the ALCos and MLWs quickly fell into disrepair.
I did manage one chase on the Carlton Trail of their daily Prince Albert to Saskatoon freight on the Warman Sub. Here a former CN M420W leads a BC Rail M420B and an ex-Southern Pacific GP9.

NS H-55 spots boxcars at Manhattan Beer Distributors on the Suffern Industrial at Tallman, NY. This customer was almost always served by the H-56 at night, but since its abolishment in 2021 its been a daylight switch.

NS H-55 splits Orange Avenue in Suffern, NY, as it heads down the Suffern Industrial with boxcars for Manhattan Beer in Tallman.
While I've been shooting the hell out of this operation over the past few months, I've rarely gotten them coming east in the morning early enough where the sun was still on the north side of the tracks. A 9:30 am run through town on this day allowed for just that.
Face Brick Co.
The brick company was founded in 1914 as the Baker Clay company. The factory bought 50 acers of land along the river from the Walker farm at the corner of West Main and Tallman Road on the northside. The plant featured a continuous kiln design. Unlike the bee-hive design, the continous kiln allowed heat from one kiln be used to preheat the next adjoining kiln. The plant was founded to produce glazed silo tile. Many silos in Michigan and Ohio were made from these silo tile. However cement silos soon replaced the tile. The plant soon switched to brick production. The Grand Ledge Face Brick Co. was owned for a time by the Briggs Company in Lansing, later the plant was sold t the Lincoln Brick company. The plant was closed in 1947. In 1975 the land, now grown to 90 acers, was sold to Eaton County. The site is now Lincoln Brick Park. Grand Ledge brick was used to build the Grand Ledge Library, Grand Ledge Post Office, Grand Ledge City Hall (built as the Catholic Church) and Sawdon School. Sawdon School is made from a blend of bricks called "Old Rose Mission" that was extremely popular.
I can only guess the history of this forest path that is along the slope of the Palisades uplands and overlooks the Hudson River. Perhaps the area was more densely populated at one time and it was once a road for colonist to get from Palisades to Piedmont. Even more fascinating, it may have once been a road for General Washington to move supplies between the New Jersey strongholds and West Point.
Probably the road began more recently and less romantically. This stone and dirt grading to rise above a wet dip in the forest is inside Tallman Mountain State Park now and the heaviest traffic it has seen in a long time had been hiking boots and mountain bikes.

NJ Transit GP40PH-2B no. 4208 is seen leading Pascack Valley Line train 2111 out of Spring Valley Station as it heads into Woodbine Yard. VIsible here is the connection to the former Erie Railroad's Piermont Branch, now abandoned between here and Tallman, where NS maintains the rest of the line to Suffern.
Crown Point began in 1962 as a print workshop, but started publishing prints in 1965 with etching portfolios by Richard Diebenkorn and Wayne Thiebaud. It functioned as both workshop and publisher until 1971 when Brown formed an alliance with the New York publisher, Parasol Press. In that year Crown Point Press moved from Brown’s Berkeley basement to a loft space in downtown Oakland, and —through Parasol Press— began working with New York artists Sol LeWitt, Brice Marden, and others who would later be seen as key members of the Minimal art movement.
In 1977 Crown Point Press shifted its emphasis back to its own publishing program, and began working with a group of mainly Conceptual artists including Vito Acconci, Chris Burden, Tom Marioni, John Cage, and Pat Steir. Artists published by Crown Point since that time represent a wide variety of contemporary art approaches, and many of them live in countries other than the United States. Art historian Susan Tallman in her 1996 book, The Contemporary Print, describes Crown Point as “the most instrumental American printshop in the revival of etching as a medium of serious art.” From 1982 through 1994 Crown Point added Asian woodcut techniques to its etching program, taking artists to Japan, and later China, to work with craftsmen in those countries.
Crown Point Press celebrated its 25th birthday with an exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, and archives of its work are owned by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the National Gallery in Washington, DC. An exhibition jointly sponsored by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the National Gallery was held in 1997, Crown Point’s 35th year. A virtual tour of the exhibition is available here. Since 1986 Crown Point Press has been located in San Francisco, where it has a gallery open to the public and two large etching studios. With a staff of twelve, the press currently publishes etchings by five or six invited artists a year. It also holds summer workshops open to all artists.
The Funeral Home currently known as Brew Funeral Home began in 1878 as Tallman Undertaking Establishment. In 1911 it became Tallman-Walker Undertaking Establishment under the direction of Eben Walker. In 1918 Lester E. Brew Sr. purchased the business and in the 1930s Lester Brew changed the name to Brew Funeral Home and moved it to its current location at 48 South Street. In 1983, Gary Finch purchased the firm. In May 2015 Sammuel Darling purchased Brew Funeral Home. Sammuel is honored to be part of a legacy that spans over a century and plans to continue the honorable service that will allow Brew Funeral Home to continue to serve the community for years to come.17
With just minutes of sunlight remaining, Santa Maria Valley Locomotive #205 runs compass southeast through the little hamlet of Tallman, Oregon, headed for the Albany & Eastern Railroad yards in Lebanon, just 3 miles ahead. Although there is a haze layer today, the low-angle sun still puts a nice orange glow on her running gear as she charges down the long straight-away at track speed.
