Talented Gnaoua musicians and singers in Khamlia a village in eastern Morocco on the edge of the Sahara desert. These musical families start to train their youngsters to play traditional instruments when they are very young. The little boy in the picture had been performing with this group for a year, he was only allowed to perform the easier numbers and routines.
Nature painted an abstract work using a wonderful vibrant color palette on her canvas. In every shift of my lens, red, yellow, green, purple in all their fine shades compose a wonderful, unique scene. I feel like a humble art thief ...

Another talented songster here. Regardless of wandering the certain damp, deciduous woods all summer long, listening to a Veery singing his beautiful melodies, I have not been lucky enough to capture a decent photo of him. Ugh. So, I am posting a photo of a Veery I captured a year ago, hah!
Veery is a plain, brown and white bird, a bit smaller than a Wood Thrush (another magical singer I have not been able to adequately photograph regardless of multiple attempts). The enchanting, ethereal and spiraling notes of a Veery are truly heavenly sounds in a quiet summer forest with shaded streams and wildflowers. It's like listening to someone playing a flute!
Veerys spend their winters in central and southern Brazil. When migrating, radio telemetry shows these little birds fly 285 km (160 mi) in one night, and that they can fly at altitudes above 2,000 m (1.2 mi). Right now, in mid-August, they have begun their fall migration from Wisconsin to southern South America.
When I picked Della to do 52 weeks for dogs this year it never crossed my mind that Tug wouldn’t be here to make an appearance in some of her weekly photos. I just figured at her age I should try and take as many photos of her as possible. I thought Tug would have a turn again next year. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you have to learn how to live it it.
How fortunate am I to have a talented friend who wanted to do a portrait of Tug for me. I gave her several photos of him and here is what she came up with. I'd say she nailed it. I think Della even thinks so.

They just peck at each other.
I am often overcome by all of the talented folk singers even just in my own country who love to play and are so wonderful but probably aren't heard as widely as they should be....because, making music and touring costs quite a bit of money and it's hard to be able to do the things you love the most. Fran is one of those bands. They opened for Rosali and I couldn't believe Chicago was so lucky to have such a wonderful band playing here.

The Sand Cat, also known as the Sand Dune Cat, lives in the deserts of North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. But try finding one in the wild; the colour of its fur makes the perfect camouflage! This small cat is solitary except during the mating season and when a female has kittens. Sand Cats are threatened by habitat loss, hunting and collection for the pet trade.

"You're back then?" said the fly "We flies thought we were going to get some peace and quiet now that you were spending your time with that spotted monstrosity". I was taken aback, spotted monstrosity, surely they couldn't be talking about the beautiful and talented Arthur. "Do you mean Arthur", I said "the ladybird that I've been taking pictures of". "Yeah - that's him, evil monster, Arthur the assassinator is his real name, you know", the fly started rubbing his hands together with glee. "That thing eats 5000 of our little cousins, the aphids, every year of its life". I had never thought of it like that. "Aphids are pests though" I retorted "they damage plants!". "You mean they eat to try and survive", answered the fly, "anyway - you're a human, you can talk about who is the real pest on this planet, it was perfect before you lot came along". The fly then flew off, looking for some waste product to dispose of, or some dead and rotting animal to return back to the food chain.
So this European Starling is a master of mimic....making sounds of tree frogs, seagulls, cat meow, redtail hawk, smoke alarm, and many small birds. Sometimes I can't believe my ears!

Procida is the smallest island of the Gulf of Naples; it is rich in attractions and archaeology. From the ground floor of Napoli Centro train station, you can take the metro to station Pozzuoli then get off and take the ferry at the port of Pozzuoli. The architecture of Procida has a Greek origin. In fact, the history of Procida is concentrated first of all on the medieval village “Terra Murata” and on “Corricella”, the fishing settlement. The island has served as the set for numerous films, such as The “Postman”, and some scenes in “The Talented Mr. Ripley” were shot on Corricella. The landmarks of Procida reflect typical Mediterranean pastel colours. Procida offers simply cooking and at least 10 excellent restaurants with plain cooking based on fresh fish. This simple style never fails, thanks to the 20 local fishing boats. The specialties of the cooking are: stewed rabbit (which goes back to the Borbonen who came on Procida to hunt the wild rabbit) and spaghetti with sea-urchin. Procida has 6 beaches with crystal-clear waters. Spent some relaxing days on this wonderful island. Experience the real Italy, lovely people, great views, great sand and great food.
The best way to get to procida is travelling to Pozzuoli first, beautiful as well as other districts of Naples, by train where you will find marina with ferries.
