The Tales of South Tyneside display at South Shields Museum and Art Gallery explore explores the local and social history of the area during the twentieth century together with the lifetime achievements of the celebrated local author Catherine Cookson. The Catherine Cookson display depicts her life and career, and is one of the most popular in the museum. However, keeping all of the scenes sparkling clean is a real challenge for our Conservation Team.
A team from Northumbrian Water helped to give the displays a spring clean. The day started with a short behind the scenes tour of the museum stores and a brief conservation training session.
When the job was done, the sparkling clean cases attracted a lot of extra attention from the museum’s visitors. It was a real team effort, and couldn’t have been done without the help of the Northumbrian Water volunteers.
