This is an MRI showing a sagittal view (like a view looking from the side). This MRI included the tailbone (coccyx) and sacrum, in a patient with tailbone pain (coccyx pain) after a tailbone injury (injured coccyx due to trauma).

Tailbone MRI (coccyx MRI): This is an MRI image (axial T1) from a patient with coccyx pain (tailbone pain) years after a tailbone injury. The MRI shows that the previous coccyx fracture (broken tailbone) has fused back together, but unfortunately the accused in a deformed position (crooked instead of straight).

Tailbone MRI (coccyx MRI): This is an MRI image (sagittal T1) from a patient with coccyx pain (tailbone pain) years after a tailbone injury.

The MRI shows that the lowest segments of the coccyx (tailbone) have fused together.

This is a lateral radiograph (x-ray) showing a Tailbone dislocation (dislocated coccyx).

If you look closely at the tailbone, you can see that at one joint the tailbone (coccyx) is not lined up with the bone segment above it. In fact, in this particular case the alignment is "off" by more than 50% of the width of the bone. This lack of alignment is called "listhesis".

A patient with tailbone pain (coccydynia) from this problem will often respond well to non-surgical treatment, if appropriate care is given.

Nowadays, tailbone pain is common among people of all ages because of their sedentary lifestyle, which leads to disturbed sleep at night.

Medically tailbone is referred to as the coccyx. This small bone located at the bottom of the spine is prone to injury and soreness.

So it is important to keep it in alignment by practicing a few positions while sleeping, which will reduce the pressure on the coccyx and will result in relief.

Before telling you the best sleeping positions, it is important to analyze the causes of tailbone pain.

Unusual skin growth is a kind of cyst at the lower part of the tailbone or coccyx that contains skin, hair, and pus, known as a pilonidal cyst. Once this cyst is infected, medically it is known as a “pilonidal abscess.” Let's explore more: www.southlakegeneralsurgery.com/pilonidal-cyst-treatment-...
