And to celebrate Portugal victory nothing better than the iconic Tower of Belém on the bank of the Tagus River in Lisbon, Portugal.

One of the many river Tagus channels near Escaroupim. In this area of the river, the water is already fresh offering this hidden gem with its green banks banks full of life.

While driving through EVOA national park on the Tagus Estuary, we came across a very large flock of migrating Greater Flamingos.

Greater flamingos are extremely social. They travel in groups of up to thousands and communicate using auditory and visual cues.

This was my first experience with lightpaint.

This shot was taken at Jardim do Ginjal, on the south bank of the Tagus River, with Lisbon right in front, on the other margin.

Reflected on the Tagus’s water you can see the green of the bridge’s lights (on the left side) and the orangeish/redish reflection of Lisbon’s lights (on the right handside).

The urban development of the banks of the Tagus River was subject to intensive development at the beginning of the 16th century, when King Manuel I built a new royal residence (the Ribeira Palace) on the river bank. The area was developed thanks to the construction of the port, shipbuilding facilities and other administrative buildings regulating trade between Portugal and other parts of the world at that time. During the reign of the King Dom Jose I, the great earthquake of 1755, followed by the tsunami and fire, destroyed most of Lisbon, including the Ribeira Palace and other buildings on the river. After the earthquake, the square was completely rebuilt. A large rectangular square in the shape of the letter "U" was designed, open towards the Tagus.

The square was called "Praça do Comércio" (Trade Square) to indicate its new function in the Lisbon economy. The central point of the square is the equestrian statue of King José I. In the direction of Augusta street, which connects the square with another traditional Lisbon Rossio square, a triumphal arch was built in 1875, called Arco da Rua Augusta.

The "Praça do Comércio" square has been recognized as a national monument of Portugal since 1910.

Rozwój urbanistyczny brzegów rzeki Tag podlegał intensywnemu rozwojowi na początku XVI wieku, kiedy król Manuel I zbudował nową rezydencję królewską (Pałac Ribeira) nad rzeką. Obszar ten rozwijał dzięki budowie portu, obiektów stoczniowych i innych budynków administracyjnych regulujących handel pomiędzy Portugalią i innymi częściami ówczesnego świata.

The "UFO lights" in the sky are from a plane descending and making its final approach to land in Lisbon (from a time when there were still planes in the sky...). In the back you can see the bridge and Lisbon's lights.

The little sparks generated on some spots along the path of the fire, created a curious flowerlike effect, that I find wonderful in this image.

I do not know why this European Stonechat looked so upset. Maybe it was all the rain that fell in December.

European Stonechats feed almost entirely on invertebrates such as small to medium-sized insects and larvae. It often hunts from low exposed perch, using the typical “perch-and-pounce” method. It flies down to catch the prey on the ground and returns to the perch, often the same.

Portugal - Lisboa - Tagus Bridge

Built between 1514 and 1520 as part of the Tagus estuary defence system, Belém Tower (“Torre de Belém”) has been classified by UNESCO as "Cultural Heritage of Humanity" in 1983.

It is an impressive fortress overlooking the Tagus River, whose true size can only be fully perceived by the scale factor given by some (quite sizable) surrounding trees. In the far background you can glimpse one of the Tagus crossings (this one is the suspension bridge).

The tower has been designed to resemble a ship, something which isn’t clear when looked at from land but becomes evident when you see it from the river, as in this other photo of mine:

Vasco da Gama Bridge (“Ponte Vasco da Gama”) is the second Tagus River crossing in Lisbon. It was built in the late nineties (1998) and has a huge 13 km extension, linking Lisbon’s eastern area (north bank of the Tagus River) to Alcochete (south bank). It is the second longest bridge in Europe.

Alongside the bridge, for about 150/200m runs an elevated pontoon. Its lenght is enough to create the illusion that the pontoon runs indefinitely along its “big brother”. Being an elevated pontoon (something which isn’t obvious from the image), it created shadow on its left side at sunrise, allowing for a nice differentiation on the water tones on the two sides of the pontoon. Finally, the pontoon’s surface (in wood) was wet, which helped to create a wonderful effect with the reflection of the early morning's light.

This Common Buzzard was looking for his next meal on the Tagus estuary in EVOA National Park, Portugal.

The feathers of this bird are a mixture of dark brown, light brown, and white. They are medium to large in size with dark eyes and a hooked beak. They are 15 to 22 inches long and weigh 1 to 3 pounds. One of the most interesting facts is that males usually weigh less than females. This makes them better fliers. The wingspan of this bird ranges from 42-53 inches.

This Glossy Ibis caught a crawfish. He is being pursued by two Yellow-Legged Gulls ( one mature non breeding adult and the other an immature one). Also by a Black-Headed Gull non breeding adult. The Gulls were all trying to steal the crawfish from the ibises as they caught them, This Ibis was able to get away and eat his crustacean,
