Memorial tablets in the north transept.
Lichfield is our best known three-spired cathedral, and one I have visited many times over the years (both for business and pleasure).
The cathedral suffered more than most during the Civil War when the Close was besieged (twice) and the central spire shot down (the aftermath of which is memorably conjured in one of Kempe's windows). As a result of this (and the soft red sandstone) the cathedral has been heavily restored and nearly all the furnishings are Victorian, but there are some notable tombs and monuments, and every time I come here I seem to notice more medieval survivals of some kind in various corners.
This was my first visit since the Lady Chapel's vast swathes of Flemish glass was spirited up to York for restoration, and it'll be a couple more years before it returns. Meanwhile this normally rather dark interior has brightened up with clear glazing, suggesting the kind of atmosphere the cathedral must have had in pre-Victorian days when there was virtually no stained glass.

Mrs Mildred Holland, the wife of the vicar Revd William Holland painted the extraordinary ceiling between 1859 and 1862 as part of her husband's restoration of the church.
"This tablet marks the site of the building in which were held the Courts of Harford County from its organization in March 1774 until March 1783. In this house the Committee of Harford County held its meetings before and during the early years of the Revolution. Here, at a meeting held on the 22nd day of March 1775, the following members of the Committee passed and signed a formal Declaration pledging their lives and fortunes to the cause, which, a year later, resulted in the Declaration of Independence."
Macromondays: Theme is nightmares
For my birthday in August, my girlfriend bought be a Wacom graphics tablet. I'd asked for this as I thought it may help to touch up the photographs of little people I do for MM.
I've not had much opportunity to do any photography since (a mare in itself), so just sat down today to learn how to use it. These thngs are a nightmare - so much harder than I imagined......
Still once I get better at it , sure it'll help me photoshop out the blue tack (what I normally have to do)...

A customer told me the other day she is so glad to finally be organized.
This is a photograph from the finish of the St. Coca's AC 5KM Road Race 2015 which was held in Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Ireland at 20:00 on Friday 26th June 2015. This superb road race is now firmly established again as one of the fastest and best organised road races of it's kind in Leinster. The race follows a left handed course around a well known local walking route around Laragh and in the closing kilometer runs parallel to the Royal Canal into the finish at the railway station. The members of St. Coca's AC and the many volunteers from the local community must be given great praise for organising another fantastic night of racing for runners, joggers, and walkers. The 5KM course is very flat with the exception of short incline up a motorway overpass and makes its way along narrow country lanes sheltered on either side by hedgerows. The beautiful summer's evening made for an enjoyable night for everyone with a large crowd gathering at the finish to cheer on participants. The race also attracted one of it's largest number of participants in recent years with over 380 finishers in the race. Refreshments and prize awards were held in the primary school near the race start and close to the St. Coca's running track. This race is yet another fantastic club organised road race in the midlands/North Leinster region where an athletics club organises their annual event to the highest standard. Without doubt the St. Coca's AC 5KM Road Race will continue to grow.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Since the students at BNI have Tablet computers, Xournal seemed like a natural choice. It's just about as easy as OneNote and just as functional in the general sense. You can draw or type out notes and organize them however you feel like.

This is a photograph from the first running of the Clonard GAA 4 Mile Road Race, Fun Run and Walk which was held in the village of Clonard, Co. Meath, Ireland on Wednesday 2nd August 2017 at 19:30. This race was organised to faciliate the continued fund raising for the wonderful new GAA facilities at St. Finian's Park - the new home of Clonard GAA. The race itself was an outstanding success with over 400 participants including over 230 participants having chip timing. The new GAA facilities provided ample car parking and space for refreshments and mingling afterwards.
The four mile distance is something of a novelty these days on the road racing circuit and the large field shows that the distance holds an attraction for runners, joggers and walkers.
The race started and finished at the new GAA pitch and incredibly only 20 meters separated the start and finish line of the race. The route took the participants east bound on the R148 towards Enfield through the village of Clonard and onwards to take a right turn onto Keegan's boreen to cross the M4/M6. The route then took a right turn on the Clonard Edenderry road to return back to Clonard with another crossing of the M4/M6 motorway.
As this was the first running of the race the support from local athletes was very visible.
Credit must go to Clonard GAA and Clonard Community Council who provided excellent organisation on all aspects of the race including event management, parking and race stewarding with the Gardai. This race can be an example to every other club in Ireland in how a properly organised race can be run.

St Nicholas's in Alcester has the grandeur befitting the main church of a small town, but all that survives of the medieval building is the tall west tower, the rest was rebuilt in the Georgian period in a strange fusion of gothic (exterior) and classical (interior) by Thomas Woodward of Chipping Campden in 1729-30. There was further alteration when Frederick Preedy rebuilt the chancel in 1870-1 and inserted the tracery in the nave windows, which gives the main body of the church a more Victorianised appearance.
Inside the nave retains it's plain classical columns and flat plaster ceiling and is somewhat austere, relieved by the central chandelier suspended from a gilt cherub.
The most remarkable feature is the late Tudor tomb of Sir Fulke Greville and his wife in the north aisle from 1559. The deceased are represented by recumbent effigies with many children portrayed on the sides of the tomb chest below, all in a good state of preservation with what appears to be original colouring.
There is also a fine monument by Sir Francis Chantrey to the 1st Marquis of Hertford in the south transept from 1828 with a reclining effigy.
There is fairly ordinary Victorian stained glass in the chancel, the church's best window is a modern piece from 1997 by Alan Younger in the south aisle.
