The method of chance has been integral to each of my collages; it has come to be nicknamed “pick magic.” Carefully cut pieces are picked and matched with backgrounds without looking at either. The collage then goes back into rotation until it is finished, it may take a day or several years.
The Dadaist’s, particularly Jean Arp, pioneered this idea of chance in collage. He believed chance introduced an imbalance and immediacy that restored a work’s mysterious vitality and its primeval magic power.
I have found through this method, correlations and patterns I wouldn’t have discovered on my own, making the experience of creation far more exciting. You begin developing a dialogue between yourself and your subconscious, rich with humour, surprises and insight.
This original collage is mounted on a 6”x6” ceramic tile and is coated with a shellac sealer. It adds interest to empty nooks and looks great grouped together. Mix and match your favourite colors to accent any room. It is ready to hang with no framing required.

My first go at using a graphic tablet, it took a very long time to complete, but when you use a completly new technique there is simply no point in rushing into it.
It's all about trial and error.

Professoras e professores da Educação Infantil da Rede Municipal de Ensino receberam os materiais pedagógicos relativos ao Programa de Leitura e Escrita na Educação Infantil – LEEI, projeto formativo realizado pela Secretaria de Educação em parceria com a Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais – UFMG.
Os Centros Municipais de Educação Infantil – Cemeis também começaram a receber os tablets para montagem de laboratórios móveis de informática.
Na manhã desta quarta-feira (6/4), a prefeita Marília Campos esteve no Cemei Carmem do Rosário Rocha, na região Sede, primeira unidade de ensino a receber a coleção do LEEI e os tablets. “Hoje é um marco para a Educação de Contagem. Essa é a primeira escola a receber o material de apoio pedagógico. Estamos realizando um conjunto de medidas para toda a rede municipal, desde a formação até a valorização dos servidores. A Educação de Contagem é uma prioridade e queremos que seja uma referência nacional”, afirmou.
A diretora do Cemei, Cristina Gouveia, destacou as iniciativas que beneficiarão as 186 crianças que frequentam a unidade. “Ampliar o contexto da alfabetização e letramento é muito importante. Essa formação com a UFMG, a entrega dos livros da coleção do LEEI e dos tablets são de imensa importância”, destacou.
O atendimento às crianças na unidade Carmem do Rosário é muito positiva, conforme aponta Jaqueline Fartir, mãe de Pedro Lucas, 3 anos, recém-matriculado. “No início fiquei insegura, mas desde o primeiro dia ele já trata a escola como a segunda casa. Já está brincando e fazendo amigos”, comemorou.
Leitura e Escrita na Educação Infantil
A Prefeitura de Contagem, em parceria com a Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais – UFMG, vai ofertar cursos de formação aos educadores da Rede Municipal de Ensino, dentro do Programa de Aperfeiçoamento Docente – PAD Contagem. Serão beneficiados 1.680 servidores da Educação, sendo 840 da Educação Infantil, 640 do Ensino Fundamental e 200 da Educação de Jovens e Adultos – EJA.
O Projeto Leitura e Escrita na Educação Infantil – LEEI é voltado para professores (as), pedagogos (as), dirigentes e agentes da Educação Infantil e será coordenado pela professora Mônica Correia Baptista, do Núcleo de Estudos e Pesquisas sobre Infâncias e Educação Infantil – Nepei/UFMG. A carga horária será de 150 horas.
O material didático/pedagógico do curso consiste em nove cadernos e um encarte produzidos pela UFMG, em parceria com a Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro -UFRJ, que foram confeccionados e distribuídos pela Seduc.
Reconhecimento, valorização e elevação da moral
Também nesta quarta-feira Marília visitou a Escola Municipal Otacir Nunes dos Santos, na região Sede, onde pôde acompanhar a rotina da escola, o lanche dos estudantes e dialogar com os(as) trabalhadores(as) da unidade.
Na oportunidade a prefeita foi homenageada com o recital do poema “O que é que eu vou ser”, de Pedro Bandeira, feito pelos estudantes do 4º ano e destacou as ações do Executivo para a Educação.
“Já podemos sentir um clima diferente dos trabalhadores com a recomposição salarial. Encontramos uma Prefeitura muito desorganizada, mas estamos normalizando as ações e o planejamento. Quero parabenizar os professores e trabalhadores da escola por ver como essa escola está boa, tão viva, cheia de alunos”, apontou Marília.
A unidade atende crianças de 4 e 5 anos da Educação Infantil e estudantes do 1º ao 9º ano do Ensino Fundamental. A diretora Dora Oliveira destacou a participação de toda sua equipe na mudança e reconstrução da escola, valorizada e bem vista pela comunidade, atualmente. “Essa equipe é formidável. Apesar das dificuldades, as alegrias são muito maiores. Se essa escola está melhor hoje é por causa dessa equipe e da parceria com a Secretaria de Educação e com a Prefeitura”, apontou.
O professor de Arte da escola, Geraldo Magela, agradeceu à administração municipal pelas ações em prol dos(as) trabalhadores(as) da Educação. “Gratidão pelo reconhecimento, valorização e elevação da moral dos professores, tanto pelas formações, recomposição salarial, materialidade e diálogo”.
