'Christmas bush bouquet by Su_G' in a tablewear mockup (c/o Spoonflower) - for the festive table.
This was my entry in Spoonflower's Australian Flora Design Challenge (embarrassing that it's taken me so long to finalise & publish it).
Ink pen & watercolour on paper.

This photograph was my inspiration:
www.flickr.com/photos/66403770@N06/31866840607/. I sprinkled some hot acid yellow pollen dots on for fun & to break up the background (could potentially disguise food stains on napkins & tablecloths in the future).

This was indeed a labor of love. It's a gift for my bee keeper brother and his wife. My own design which went through multiple reiterations (and plenty of seam ripping!) to get it right.
I bought hand-dyed hemp/organic cotton fabric from Noonday Textiles and it's gorgeous fabric! I highly recommend this shop! The white is Kona snow.
This is just the top. I'll sandwich it with flannel instead of batting so it's not so puffy (got that hint from Elizabeth-thanks). Not sure how to quilt it though. If you have suggestions, let me know!!
'White polka dots on flame hot orange' (one dot per square inch) & 'Dot dot: white on flame by Su_G' (two sets of white polka dots: small & tiny) in a table setting mockup (c/o Roostery)
Two different dots in the same colours: white and a 'flame hot orange' (that I originally created for a set of geodesic dome designs as a tribute to R. Buckminster Fuller, their inventor).

This is my own pattern I made up. I bought the Verna Charmpack and cut them in half then matched up the colors and started sewing.
Oh, Canada! - Lovely, lovely fabrics!!

Stamped in Dachau in the Altmann factory. Pre-WWII.
Bernhard Altmann entered the textile trade in Vienna in 1915, and he opened his textile, weaving and printing company in Dachau in 1919. His company grew to employ 1000 people by 1938 before the German Anschluss forced him to flee to London. His brother Fritz Altmann was taken prisoner by the Nazis, and Bernhard was forced to sign over the business in return for Fritz's release from Dachau Concentration Camp.

Design Challenge entry: ''Wish you were here: Myriad vanishings by Su_G' in a table runner (mockup c/o Roostery)
This design really needs a banner... but that will have to wait. Stretching the brief a bit, this is my entry in Spoonflower's Retro Postcards Design Challenge.
Hand-painted, 'boneless' wash (after Ren Yi) & line art.

The Contest Brief talked of "vacation memories with a vintage flair... time to experiment... or celebrate your most exciting travels [whether] by boat, train, airplane or even car..." and could have added, or by tank. So, I chose to commemorate Tiananmen Square on the 4 June 1989, using Ren Yi's “boneless wash” (& Ren Xiong's 'Myriad'), for Tiananmen Man. First the tanks came for him and then he went to the tanks, side stepping to stay in front when they tried to go around, and climbing on to remonstrate with the soldiers. Exciting times! We know where he'd been (shopping - the poignancy of those shopping bags!) but where did he go? Never seen again! Bob Hawke, Australian Prime Minster of the time, made a unilateral decision in 1989 to give the 27,000 Chinese students in Australia residency rights, and around 42,000 permanent visas for Chinese students were later granted.

2nd version of 'Elegant holiday dinner dots by Su_G' in a tablewear mockup (c/o Roostery). The placemats are my entry in Spoonflower's Elegant Holiday Limited Color Palette Design Challenge.

The Design Challenge for the Elegant Holiday Limited Color Palette is to explore the concept of "a sophisticated winter dinner party" using a limited color palette for dinner table-wear such as table runners & placemats, I chose a simple motif to focus on play with colour variations & reversals to provide choice from which to select for that elegant holiday dinner party.

'Mud, dust and rain (African) by Su_G' in a table runner mockup (c/o Roostery)
This design was inspired by the turn of the 19th century raffia textiles of the multi-ethnic Kuba peoples of Zaire in equatorial Africa. Someone suggested it deserved a prettier name, but I like 'Mud, dust and rain' because that is what makes things grow.
© Su Schaefer 2014
I think this design could make good table wear because I suspect it would make it hard to see food stains.

This is the Christmas table runner for the upstairs coffee table.
The pattern I bought had stockings on it. I didn't like the stockings, so I made up my own thing to go in the blocks.
Now I just need to quilt and bind it.
