The pedestrian walkway under the Hagley Road, Birmingham. Taken while waiting for people to pass the other way as the tunnel is a bit tight for social distancing restrictions.
The tunnel marks the point where the former Harborne branch line passed under the road. It closed as part of the Beeching cuts and was converted into a path in the 1970s.
I was surprised with the skies parted on Saturday it was supposed to be cloudy all day long. Our first snow of the year will arrive later today with 1-3 inches. Something worth photographing :) Five exposure HDR processed with Nik HDR Efex Pro 2
Buff Breasted Sandpiper - Calidris subruficollis
A delicate dove-headed shorebird, the Buff-breasted Sandpiper is found primarily in migration in areas of short grass. It migrates primarily through the middle of the American continent from its arctic breeding grounds to southern South America.
The Buff-breasted Sandpiper is unique among North American shorebirds in having a lek mating system. Males defend relatively small territories that provide no resources for females and are simply display sites to which females can be attracted. Females select a mate and then leave to nest and raise their chicks elsewhere.
It migrates mainly through central North America, and is uncommon on the coasts. It occurs as a regular wanderer to western Europe, and is not classed as rare in Great Britain or Ireland, where small flocks have occurred. Only the pectoral sandpiper is a more common American shorebird visitor to Europe.
This species nests as far north as Canada including Alaska on the ground, laying four eggs. The male has a display which includes raising the wings to display the white undersides, which is also given on migration, sometimes when no other buff-breasted sandpipers are present. Outside the breeding season, this bird is normally found on short-grass habitats such as airfields or golf-courses, rather than near water.
Jupiter, photographed from my backyard in Long Beach, CA
30 s SER files were taken with a ZWO ASI120MM camera through Optolong CCD RGB filters on a Celestron Edge HD 925 telescope using FireCapture. The top 80% of frames went into 6 stacks of each color filter. These stacks were made in AutoStakkert, then sharpened in PixInsight. Stacks were combined and derotated in WinJUPOS, and the resulting R, G, and B images were combined in WinJUPOS to make a de-rotated single color image. Color balancing in Registax, then final touches in Photoshop.

A calm and cloudy day in Buttermere. With some great reflections and mist and clouds to work with I enjoyed the morning.
In case you didn't know this is what the solar system might look like.
I had to atually do some "Honey Dos" last weekend.
You know the ones - Honey do this, Honey do that.
So some paint on metal posts had to be touched up and naturally it was a special paint which I had to hunt down. Made by Resene Paint in New Zealand, it is a metallic paint, and quite stiff as you can see from the picture above, taken after stirring it to try to make the contents evenly dispersed throughout the mix.
For those that are polychromatically challenged, metallic paint has a aluminium type substrate added which gives it a sparkly effect.
Most new cars these days are painted in metallic as often and only white is offered in the "normal" price and any other colour costs extra, perhaps another way that the manufacturers use to surgically remove more $$ from you.
Metallic paint is also called polychromatic or "metal flake" paint.
Historically, it was difficult to achieve an invisible repair if the paint was damaged because it is critical at which angle the flakes in the paint lie. Modern techniques have more or less eliminated this problem. Similarly it was difficult for amateurs to get an evenly dispersed mix of the metallics, and when sprayed on a surface, would clearly show up. Trust me I speak from experience.
It appears that metallic paint use on cars goes back to about 1930 which surprises me.

This gently rolling countryside is between Brixworth and Creaton in Northamptonshire. The farmland is mostly arable, though there is some pasture for sheep and horses, especially where there are remnants of the medieval strip system of farming, with ridges and furrows being quite distinct.

Today I missed the direct train home from work and ended up taking a longer route.
None of the following is a complaint. I do, of course, fully understand the need for social distancing measures. I did though want to record how I felt on the journey.
It was a very strange experience: seats taped up ‘out of use’, hardly any passengers at rush hour, lengthy one way systems to navigate. It all felt like landing in a very different country, but with elements of familiarity. It was the most surreal journey I’ve ever made.
The picture was taken at York and shows 802218 with a Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street service. To be fair, the TPE trains have clear but discrete social distancing signs in the form reservation type labels with a red and cross/green and tick to indicate where to sit.

Here's my entry to the TTV Brickonicle Contest. I wanted to incorporate the original canister types in a way that made sense for a modern lego set. Here it is used as the main storage section on a transport vehicle.
The label would be on the inside of the canister instead of the outside, and it would also be reversible to show a more fitting print to go with the scene. In this case, it is a riveted paneling texture.
The matron of this floating house is purchasing fresh produce delivered by boat to her door.
Tonlé Sap lake in Cambodia is part of the Mekong River system and the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. The size and depth of the lake changes dramatically depending on wet or dry season, so structures can't sit on pylons. There are also floating stores, schools, storehouses, henhouses and other structures. Most people are engaged in fishing or trading.
