This artwork depicts a pair of Renamon Digimon running and racing against each other. This artwork is rendered with a Synthwave art style. Synthwave is an modern art style inspired by 1980s aesthetics, with neon glowing lines, bright saturated colors, and geometric polygon meshes. This artwork was created with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. It was first drawn with vector paths and color fills in Illustrator. It was then imported into Photoshop where glowing effects and textures were added. The artwork measures about 22×15 inches.
The color palette for this art was taken from Synthwave art, bright purple sky, pink glow grid, yellow and red sunset, and electric blue glowing buildings. Renamon is typically yellow in color so one was colored blue to differentiate between the two. Also in the movie Tron there are two light cycles one is yellow and the other blue. Both of the Renamon have Tron light cycle trails to create the sensation of speed. In the background there is a city with glowing neon buildings inspired by Hong Kong and Tokyo, which both experienced population booms during the ’80s. Beyond the city are mountains made with glowing neon polygons and behind those is a setting sun. To push the ’80s aesthetic further a scan line filter was added to the whole art to make it look like an old CRT TV screen.
I have been a fan of Digimon since 1999. I own a lot of merch and have watched the anime numerous times. I like a lot of different types of Digimon and Renamon is one of my favorites. Renamon is a beautiful looking Digimon with a coat of sleek yellow fur and slender body features. When it moves it has grace and agility in its movements, it can traverse many types of terrain effortlessly. Renamon is said to be very intelligent, it can learn its foes tactics very quickly and use its speed to evade and counter attack. For this artwork I wanted to have two Renamon running and racing each other because I wanted to add a racing element into Digimon. I got the idea from an episode of Digimon Tamers where Renamon is shown running at a side profile view. Also I got inspiration from the movie Tron. The light cycles with light trails coming off the back looked similar in shape to Renamon’s tail. Renamon is already yellow in color, so it fit well with Sythwave which also uses some yellow color as well.
