It was an immense pleasure to have the amazing pianist, keyboardist, composer and jazz arranger James Francies on campus!
An accomplished jazz pianist, composer and arranger blessed with perfect pitch and synesthesia -the ability to hear in colors! - Francies has gone on international tours with musicians such as Jeff "Tain" Watts, or Pat Matheny. Besides jazz, his achievements in other genres like hip-hop or R&B are also many: from performances with artists like Ms. Lauryn Hill, Common or Nas, to studio work for Chance the Raper's Grammy-winning hit "No Problem". He has also appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon with The Roots.
Our students had the opportunity to attend a masterclass with this amazingly talented musician, who shared his experience and music with them in a very inspiring session."

This is what the music they played at my high school dances looks like. It's not very pretty. It's mostly rap with some hip hop. They play the bass so loudly, which is where the shakiness comes from.

THERESAMAYSMACKDOWN, a queer, feminist, anti-fascist, noise-driven ferocious fight channeling rage through wrestling. Brandishing baby oil and pure fiery rage, Femme Feral Fighters build a cacophony of body slamming sound in a powerful ritual of violence.

Probably the only Synesthetic interpretation of a Muse song in jewellery form you'll see all week...sound shows me the way.
A necklace based on my synesthetic reaction to Stockholm Syndrome by Muse. The dark fero-fluid like form is the bassline with arrows and garnets of guitar distortion swirling round it, electronic and synth noises in carnelian and white discs make up the neckpiece.

Keyboard-driven Prog Rock outfit Kyros (nee Synesthesia) led by vocalist & multi-instrumentalist Shelby Logan Warne (nee Adam Warne) took the audience in Cambridge by storm with a great set drawn from their four albums so far. The power-house rhythm section of Peter Episcopo on bass and the incredible Robin Johnson on ferocious drums and percussion drove the show along at a frenetic pace demonstrating just how tight this band are now as Joey Frevola added fluid guitar over the top. The infamous acoustics at the Portland did them no favours, sadly, with the keyboard lines and guitar licks barely audible at times. Still an enjoyable return to full-on live gigs!

Renaissance
Installations, performances, conferences, from 2 to 25 June 2022, Le Commun Geneva
Renaissance is an exhibition of audio-visual installations produced in collaboration by the duo of digital artists from the Robert Turner Collective and the electroacoustic jazz music duo INFLUUT. Works of algorithmic abstraction offer a synesthetic immersion, inviting introspection and meditation.
Each day presents an event for which the invited artists, scientists or collectives propose an intervention that resonates with the themes of the exhibition. Performances, conferences, installations, and a festival of sleep concerts punctuate the Renaissance complex.
Transdisciplinary in nature, this exhibition aims to provide a sort of demystification of the general notion of the algorithm. She deals in a sometimes didactic, sometimes playful, sometimes organic way with themes that may still be difficult to access with a positive and inclusive attitude.
