Keyboard-driven Prog Rock outfit Kyros (nee Synesthesia) led by vocalist & multi-instrumentalist Shelby Logan Warne (nee Adam Warne) took the audience in Cambridge by storm with a great set drawn from their four albums so far. The power-house rhythm section of Peter Episcopo on bass and the incredible Robin Johnson on ferocious drums and percussion drove the show along at a frenetic pace demonstrating just how tight this band are now as Joey Frevola added fluid guitar over the top. The infamous acoustics at the Portland did them no favours, sadly, with the keyboard lines and guitar licks barely audible at times. Still an enjoyable return to full-on live gigs!

In Roman times, the art of dining incorporated all the known senses to create a total gastronomic experience. In accordance with the ancient experience of dining, the Futurist Movement at the beginning of the 20th century experimented with sensational gastronomy.Almost 90 years later, Mediamatic in Amsterdam invited Artist and Director Martin Butler and vegan chef Alexander Gershberg to develop a concept for a NEO FUTURIST DINNER, an eating experience whose aim is to re-think the way in which the world of food, art, and science come together, resulting in an unexpected multi-sensory dinner.Inspired by the ideas of Kandinskys’s principles of Klangfarben, and the influence of the Chinese five elements: Tree, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, each course is created in accordance to the colour and underlying design principles of each element. Each course is designed in a different color, taste, smell, texture, and sound to create a five-course chromatic dining experience that matches western design with eastern philosophy.The project’s research stems from studies in Synesthesia, a perceptual condition in which the stimulation of one sense triggers an automatic, involuntary experience in another sense. The project asks the question: if colour can create emotion, can that emotion and colour be enhanced by combining it with other senses? Part of the ongoing investigation is to see how a combination of these senses can create different emotional and social response from the guests through the course of the evening and heighten the gastronomic experience.The Chromatic Dinner is a monochromatic, audio, visual, olfactory and culinary experience which plays with all the senses.

Practically speaking, music for bodies is a research project to make new 3D music and physical interfaces for enjoying it directly through your body rather than just your ears. Its aim is to discover new methods of experimental music-making, as well as to make new music more accessible to the wider community.
music for bodies is directed by Kaffe Matthews, who has been making and performing new electro-acoustic music since 1990. She is acknowledged as a leading figure and pioneer in the field of electronic improvisation and live composition making.
Sonic Bed_London
2005, sound system
While lying on the Sonic Bed the visitor becomes physically affected by a spectrum of sound vibrations shifting underneath and around them. The 12 channel sound system immersed in the bed plays a specially constructed sound work, vibrating through and moving around the visitor. Subtle and dynamic, at times beyond hearing, the composition uses the architectural map of the human body and frequencies it is tuned to as its score. Sonic Bed will play music to feel rather than just listen to, for 1 to 6 people at a time.
