Seems to be a common affliction this time of year
I'm going to be taking a little break from Flickr for a short spell. So much to do this week and then off for a little while.
Keep well Flickr friends :)
The receding tide at Luskentyre leaves clumps of seaweed that catch on shells leaving some interesting abstract shapes. This one reminded me of the hairstyle of the Incredibles' super villain Syndrome (but I'm probably on my own here!)

Stendhal syndrome, hyperkulturemia, or Florence syndrome is a psychosomatic illness that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, fainting, confusion and even hallucinations when an individual is exposed to art, usually when the art is particularly beautiful or a large amount of art is in a single place. The term can also be used to describe a similar reaction to a surfeit of choice in other circumstances, e.g. when confronted with immense beauty in the natural world.
Totally different mood today. It's because of work.Or is it not?

This Barred Owl seemed quite irritated with me. Her body was facing me, but she kept turning her head from side to side and even backwards. I would have loved a full-on face shot but it never happened. I don't know what I did to make her so annoyed. Orlando Wetlands Park, Christmas, Florida
Barn-ey, the abandoned and aging barn does indeed suffer from post - traumatic stress due to the loss of use and care that he was given in the past.
Barn-ey deals with his issues, as best he can, including watching the planes taking off and landing at the neighboring Edmonton International Airport.
One can see the old airport tower in the background.
Back home in rural Oxfordshire after our time in London. Nice to see open fields, and a surprise to see a couple near us full of poppies. What are they grown for?
Am very close to the roll-over to *10,000,000* views, so I thought I’d bring a couple of photos back around from May 2010 when I first started on Flickr.
~💙~HSS~💙~… Just a bit of “fixing” on this oldie.

Another shot from a visit to the High Wycombe area earlier in the year. In this case, having had an early meal at the hotel I checked Freightlocate and found the 19.14 Calvert - Cricklewood bin-liners (6M23) was running to time and, with the promise of a dryish evening, headed down to the station to have a go at this shot featuring the down platform repeater signal.
I was more than chuffed to find 66044, a newly repainted specimen, doing the honours. Light was fading fast however and it needed 1/320s @ F8, and 5000asa to land it. Think I just about got away with it!

There is a unique light shining in his eyes — the light of a young boy full of gentleness, joy, and courage.
At just eight years old, he already teaches us what truly matters: unconditional love, quiet strength, and the richness of difference.
He is, unfortunately, affected by Down syndrome — a reality that is part of him, but never defines him.
His smile lights up hearts, his presence inspires. He moves forward with confidence, full of life, reminding us that every human being deserves to be seen, loved, and celebrated simply for who they are 🤔

The scene is dominated by the derelict Five Ways Tower. This notorious monstrosity has been abandoned for 18 years (due to "sick building" syndrome apparently) and is a seriously ugly blot on Brum's skyline - it needs demolishing!
Over to the left of the image is the Joseph Chamberlain Memorial Clock Tower (sometimes known as Old Joe), situated on the campus of the University of Birmingham. Old Joe is the tallest free standing clock tower in the world, and stands about 100m tall. It was built between 1900 and 1908, is Grade II listed, and is one of the most recognisable features of the Birmingham skyline.
Cortivermis Syndrome is a degenerative infection caused by the symbiotic parasite Cortivermis sanguinea, a filamentous organism that infiltrates neural and dermal tissues. Its name comes from Latin: cortex (brain) and vermis (worm). The pathogen’s life cycle centers around the cerebral cortex, where it intertwines with neural pathways, feeding on bioelectrical activity. Initial infection typically occurs through contact with contaminated organic material or aerosolized spores. Once inside the host, microscopic larvae migrate through the bloodstream and lodge in the capillary networks of the face and brain. Within 72 hours, the organism begins constructing a porous, coral-like bio-matrix across soft tissues — a structure that provides oxygen diffusion and electrical conductivity. This growth manifests externally as reddish lattice lesions, usually on one side of the face. By day 10, the infection reaches the frontal and temporal lobes. The parasite establishes a neural interface, effectively hijacking sensory inputs and emotional regulation. Victims report auditory distortions, metallic taste sensations, and heightened aggression. Advanced stages result in partial ossification of the parasite’s network — the “cortical shell” — where nerve signals are rerouted through foreign tissue, giving the illusion of dual consciousness. First recorded in 2143 CE after an outbreak in the Novaya Murmansk Research Zone, where a mycelial biofuel experiment went rogue. Over 300 researchers were quarantined; only 17 survived.

So this is what we were left with tonight. The two eggs that never hatched. My husband removed the nest and placed it in a glass container I have on our deck. The eggs he buried in our garden. Our daughter made a tiny cross for it. Ah, yes, I know. Sweet huh?
Silly, but I miss them already. I hope they will live a long life and stay well. Fly my little ones, fly high.
