An adaptation of evolution to feed in deeper trumpeter flowers and have exclusivity to different nectar sources has led way to the guys bill/Sword being as long as his body. Very sought after species in Ecuador and plentiful at Guango Lodge

Make it a great week..ya have a choice ya know.

Thanks for the interest in my work and leaving a comment is always appreciated.

The Swordbill, sans tail, is the only bird whose bill length exceeds its body's. Its distribution mirrors that of the Tasconia passion flowers. Zuro Loma.

Will be heading back to hummingbird paradise (Ecuador) this year, would you like to join me? :)

Many thanks for your comments, faves, and follows :)

Su pico tiene casi la misma longitud que su cuerpo, lo que lo convierte en el ave que posee el pico más largo en el mundo.

Made by Domenico SUTRIO. Pope Julius II sent this sword to Vladislaus II in 1509, Hungarian National Museum.

Always nice to see this guy, we found this one in East Andes cordillera in Colombia.

Unmistakable. This ridiculous hummingbird has the longest bill in relation to its body size of any bird in the world. In addition to the striking bill, look for the overall muted green body color with a bronzy head. Found in the temperate zone of the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia, from around 2,500m to 3,500m. Occurs in montane forest and edges, where it uses its bill to feed from long tubular flowers.

This one was photographed in Colombia guided by Neotropic Photo Tours.

One single long exposure. No photoedition : straight out of the camera except for contrast/crop.

It was his sword that held fast in the rocks where he lay. For many years Aluna tried to remove it but failed, with anguish and tears. The day it moved was the day she had resolved not to try anymore⚔️

The Haleakalā silversword, has numerous sword-like succulent leaves covered with silver hairs. Silversword plants in general grow on volcanic cinder, a dry, rocky substrate that is subject to freezing temperatures and high winds. The skin and hairs are strong enough to resist the wind and freezing temperature of this altitude and protect the plant from dehydration and the sun.

The plant's base of leaves, arranged in a spherical formation at ground level of the plant, dominates for the majority of the plant's life—which may be greater than 50 years. The leaves are arranged so that they and the hairs of the leaves can raise the temperature of the shoot-tip leaves up to 20 °C (36 °F), thereby having adapted to the extreme high-altitude temperatures by focusing the sunlight to converge at this point and warm the plant. It's a small brass letter opener. The length of the hilt, aka handle, together with any dead space and the part of the blade is 4 cm.

A giant sword fern along the Whispering Spruce Trail at the top of Cape Perpetua in Oregon. I was lucky to be here when the afternoon sun highlighted the edges of the fern and created the beautiful blue bokeh in the background.

Thanks for your visit -- I appreciate your comments, awards, faves and invitations. Have a great weekend!

I carved and filed this sword out of a Brickarms Rust sprue, which is a swirl of Dark Orange and Gunmetal.

The axe head right above it is normally-molded Brickarms Rust. The sword bears starkly different swirl patterns because it was cut out of already-swirled material. Check out the symmetry on the pommel! The grip is from a lathed reddish brown sprue.

Type XIV swords were popular around 1270 - 1340 in Europe. This page was one of my starting reference sources: MyArmoury Type XIV

The blade and crossguard are a single piece, which had to be carved very carefully out of the "t" shape of the sprue. If I had been another millimeter off, an air bubble would have ruined the project. The pommel is a cross-section of the top of the "t." I'm happy with how this formed and polished up!

An iconic hummingbird that was my most wished for sighting in Colombia. Fortunately, it visited the garden I was in, if only briefly. It really was spectacular to see close up.

Near La Calera, Colombia, 2900m

The main reason I used ultraviolet stickers and paint is that it gives me much greater

reliability in creating photoshoped illustration for cartoon.

I don't need to create artificial lightings in photoshop. If have great control of light in each engle and composition of the ship.

The "Sword" class is crucial part of "resistance" forces. These are ultimate ships, over 1900 meters long - Powerful and magnificent.
