My old stop watch. I hadn't noticed it says Swiss Made. Macro Mondays theme, cogwheel.

This alarm clock with its iridescent peacock blue guilloche enamel face is a work of art. Made in Switzerland in 1925, each stylised Art Deco letter has been painstakingly painted in gold in reverse on the back of the glass before being put over the guilloché face, as has the seconds dial and the other lettering. The hands are made of filagree brass, and once held paste that was luminescent, so you could always tell what time it was, even in the middle of the night. Traces of the paste, which has cracked and become brittle over the last century can still be seen on both the hour and minute hands.

The theme for “Smile on Saturday” this week is “timepieces”. Luckily for me, I am a collector of antique clocks, so this was an easy theme. In fact, the most difficult thing was to choose which piece to photograph. I chose this one partially because it is so beautiful, but also because photographing the guilloché face was quite a challenge. I hope I have done this beautiful timepiece justice.

Guilloché is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material via engine turning, which uses a machine of the same name, also called a rose engine lathe.

I was trying this out as an idea for last week's Macro Mondays group theme, One Word, but when I looked at it on my screen I realised it also says 'Swiss Made' in tiny letters at the bottom, so it didn't fit the criteria. Once upon a time, many years ago, it would have been housed in either a silver or a gold case. I've posted it anyway because I just like the idea of a watch being called Marvin. :)

The electric orange looks fantastic on the low Focus.

The "Omega Constellation" wrist-watch is a heirloom, I assume from the early 1960s. Unfortunately it's not working properly anymore and should be serviced... and the glass has quite some scratches, so it's probably not worth a lot anymore.

Experimenting with high key again

I was given a small selection of vintage items just before Christmas, which would otherwise have been thrown away. Well, I couldn't allow that to happen, could I? :)

I'm afraid I don't know what the little wooden box was originally designed for, but the lid screws on and has glass in the centre. I love the warm colour of the wood and the natural patina of age.

For this week's Macro Mondays group theme, New. Admins: The box is 1¼" wide.

Happy New Year, everyone!

A (nearly) vintage watch through a (nearly) vintage lens in vintage style.

All work done by me.

This is one of the more difficult, time and energy consuming works i've done. Especially since i don't have all the proper equipment. Used Fluorescent light from my Sony Ericsson K850i Flashlight, my sis held it for me :p. The cam was on tripod, while i held the lens backwards in front of it with one hand to get macro shot. All the scratches are not usually an essence in attractive advertising, but i liked it this way, i think it actually is attractive, of course looking at the watch these scratches are too small to see casually.

I'm not a fan of Dior or nething, don't even own nething Dior, i just liked this watch and this idea.

Please let me know your opinions, if u like it, and even if you dont ;)
