B-LJJ just airbourne via 07R as it passes the Ngong Ping 360 cable cars that take you up to the Big Bhudda, and on the way offering a stunning view of the Lantau area and of course the airport!

The new “Spirit of Hong Kong” special livery on B-KPB on final approach for 25R. Much like all of Cathay’s previous special schemes, this one looks very nice.

Cathay Pacific has just a handful of 747-400s left, with all of them doing regional routes and no longer serving long-haul destinations.

B-HUI is photographed here from the Skydeck operating a heavy 07R departure back in the summer of 2012, when you could still get photos of the jumbos departing on long-haul sectors.

B-HOP looking gorgeous catching the late afternoon summer sun on departure.

She was retired from the fleet in September 2014, having been ferried to Bruntingthorpe airfield for parting-out and scrapping. B-HOP was delivered to the airline in June 1989, and was the oldest jumbo there prior to retirement.

I can’t believe we’re potentially 1-2 years away from there being no more Cathay Pacific 744s!

CX092 was operated by the eye-catching B-LJA “Hong Kong Trader” special livery 8F, and is making a runway 25L departure to Anchorage & Columbus.

Columbus, in Ohio, is a relatively new destination for Cathay Pacific Cargo, and was launched in March 2014.

It’s not often you get light and conditions like this in HKG, so when the opportunity arises take it!

By 2017 the type was retired from the fleet.

Definitely a win for Cathay in terms of modernizing their fleet and making it more efficient, but a terrible loss from a photography perspective.

B-HOY carried the “Asia’s World City” colour scheme between 2002 and 2008.

I think this one is my favourite out of all the Cathay Pacific special liveries that I’ve seen personally.

One of many things I miss about 747 classics was their sound, especially on takeoff. Lovely!

Originally delivered to Varig as PP-VNA, then went on to fly for Aerolineas Argentinas and Air Hong Kong (where a/c was converted to a freighter) before ending up with Cathay Cargo. Stored in March 2009 after 29 years of transporting passengers and hauling cargo.

Withdrawn from use in 2015 and has since been scrapped.

The “Queen of the Skies” departing in gorgeous and very photography-friendly weather.

B-HUE was delivered to Cathay in 1993 (as VR-HUE) & was withdrawn from use in Dec 2014. She departed the next year from HKG for Bruntingthorpe (via MAN).

Heavy departure for B-HUJ off to London Heathrow, which back then still saw the 744s but now the route is an all-777 service.

Departing via 25L while illuminated in gorgeous summer light, and as a faint trail of vortices can be seen emanating from the starboard wingtip.

A type from Cathay Pacific that will be retired in the near future, so just enjoying photographing their 744s while they’re still with them!

I’ve got mixed feelings about the new scheme. I don’t think it looks appealing at all on the 777, but feel the opposite on the 747. The all-green tail is one aspect of the new design that is an improvement over the previous one I think.

This is CX289 bound for Frankfurt nearly 10 hours late.

B-LJB taking off in high temperatures and humidity, with the conditions causing vortices to be seen from the wingtip and above the wing and engines.

B-HNP was repainted into the new scheme in early 2017 and is seen here departing via 25L on another regional run.
