Blue tone by setting the WB to "Tungsten" and flashing the angel statues. WIth AWB and no flash you'd get green angels and a brown sky - yuck!

At the time the picture was taken one could not (legally) get higher...

Seen from the observation deck of the new Shanghai Tower, currently the tallest building in Shanghai and the second tallest in the world.

The photo was taken just after the (not announced) "cold opening" of the observation deck, officially it was opened a week or two later. Only the lower of the two observation decks was open. I happened to be in Pudong on business, noticed the opening and came back a day later with the camera... 😇

The two buildings in the foreground are Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC), both carried the status "tallest" once in their lifetime.

Aka Money Magnet. Revisited multiple times...

The actual name of this tall sculpture created by Liu Jianhua is "Global Magnet" and the Chinese name is just one word: "磁" ( ="Magnet") - it stands 17.5 m tall in front of the SWFC.

Explore #5

The view of the Huangpu district from the Shanghai World Financial Center in Pudong.

The Park Hyatt is at the top of the SWFC - the tallest building in mainland China and Hong Kong - and occupies the 79th to the 93rd floor of the skyscraper. It is now the highest hotel in the world, a record previously held by the Grand Hyatt in the neighbouring Jin Mao tower, which I also saw last time I was in Shanghai.

For the first three nights in Shanghai we were staying in the Park Hyatt as part of an event. Upon checking in, I was told that because they were so full I'd been lucky and my room had been upgraded to one with a better view. Which was this one, from the 82nd floor.

A different night shot of the SWFC.

The Shanghai World Financial Center (上海环球金融中心) is currently the tallest building in Shanghai. Located at the Century Avenue in Pudong. Construction completed in 2008.

Shot from Century Avenue (世纪大道) - literally, middle of the road, a traffic barrier did provide protection. A day shot from the very same spot is here

China, Shanghai,...a cloud stucked on the SWFC, the 492 mtr high World Financial Center Tower..

China, Shanghai, “Shanghai World Financial Centre”, SWFC a 492 mtr high tower opened in 2008 & positioned in the Pudong financial district. The skyscraper consisting of offices, hotel, conference rooms, observation decks & ground-floor shopping malls. Park Hyatt Shanghai located in the tower comprising 174 rooms & suites occupying the 79th to the 93rd floors.

The SWFC opened to the public August 2008 with three separate observation decks the height of the lowest observation deck, located on the 94th floor, is 423 mtr; the second on the 97th floor at a height of 439 mtr & the highest, the skywalk, on the 100th floor, at 474 mtr.

The original design of the SWFC tower had a circle in the top of the tower, symbol of the rising sun, because of the past Chinese - Japanese history the controversial design was not accepted, as an alternative the top got the rectangular opening with the skywalk, leading to the nickname of the skyscraper the “Bottle opener”

Since weather changes very fast in Shanghai in can happen, you arrive at the SWFC in plain blue sky & sunshine, once you reach the top, takes about 1,5 hours depending on the line, a 15 minutes introduction of the SWCF, security checks & elevator occupancy, the weather has changed, you find yourself up in or above the clouds, but it changes again very fast.

However, it is worthwhile taking the time & spending some time really to explore the views & the different levels of the tower.

China, Shanghai, Xitang, one of the ancient water towns in the Yangtze Delta area in the north of Jiashan County, located about 140 km southwest of Shanghai. The town stretches across eight sections, linked by 104 historic stone bridges. In the older parts of town, the well-preserved buildings with "patina" are set along the banks of the canals, which serve as the main transportation thoroughfares in the area.

Entry fee about 10 € p/p, if you stay in one of the charming boutique hotels, they will reimburse you 50% of the entrance fee.

In the Xitang Water Village, there are well-preserved groups of buildings of the Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644 & the Qing Dynasty, 1644-1911, with relatively high artistic quality & research value. The village is famous for its large number of covered corridors, lanes & bridges.

Its history dates back to at least the spring & autumn period, 770 BC–476 BC, when it was located at the border of the State of Yue & Wu. According to legend, Wu Zixu, a well-known scholar & military general, ordered to dig many canals & a pond to facilitate water transportation & to channel water to Jiashan County, therefore Xitang is also called "Xutang".

The Xitang Water Town, people who live there are not rich, so no newer modern houses have been built there. That's maybe one of the reasons why the old constructions are preserved as a whole almost without damage. In those archaic houses, besides the culture & value of the houses themselves, there are also displays of cultural relics or woodcarvings or eaves tiles collected by the house owner. To this day there are exhibitions of the ancient rare books of the owners passed down from generation to generation or rubbings from a stone inscription of a famous calligrapher.

On the roofs of some old houses here, the grass is about "one chi" tall, 33 cm ++, believing that the spirit of the former owner of the house joins with the grass, making it flourish & blessing the peace and durability of the house, as well as the prosperity of the entire town.

The "Mission Impossible III", 2005, movie featuring Tom Cruise scenes in Xitang, leading to a boom of Xitang's popularity among tourists.

Because of the rainy climate, common ceilinged corridors have been created bordering the waterways. Each family roofs the stone-planked path in front of their house resulting in covered corridors of up to 1300 metres.
